I am trying to trace the parentage and birthplace of William Henry Fullard,a mariner, DOB 5/10/1790. He married Ann Parr of Ashcombe Devon at St Pauls Church Exeter Devon 17/10/1814.
Ann Fullard (Parr) and 2 daughters were removed from Ashcombe to Melcombe Regis Dorset under Poor laws on 13/4/1818. The Fullard Family settled in Melcombe Regis where William Henry died in 1849. From records they appear to be the 1st Fullard family in the area, although they are common in the Wolverhampton area. Anne Parr's ancestry can be traced but I have had no success with William Henry. Can anyone help please.

I am trying to trace the birthplace and parents of William Henry Fullard born 5th Oct 1790, who married Ann Parr of Ashcombe Devon 17th Oct 1814 at St Paul's Church Exeter Devon and who died in 1848 at Weymouth Dorset where they lived from around 1816.

My wife's Great Uncle Charlie Fullard was serving on HMS Flora when he 'jumped ship' on 4th January 1903. My wife was told by Charlie's sister that this was in Tasmania.
He was born 16th March 1881 in Taunton, Somerset UK

Could this be the Charles Fullard you are looking for?

Michael Fullard of Bolton Lancs born 1824 is the father of William Fullard born 1853 who in turn is the father of my grandmother Alice Fullard born 1886.

Michael Fullard's wife was Elizabeth Hay born 1829; they married in 1850.

Michael Fullard's father was also called Michael Fullard.

Elizabeth Hay's father was Robert Hay. Details from Marriage Cert.

It's just my hobby - but I think I should have made a Profession of it !!..

I have just finished 10 weeks of talks to a group of people at Norton Canes on genealogy.

I have been doing look ups for people all over the world for the past few years when I came to a stop with my own FH.

I can claim no previous "insider" knowledge on the Fullard family, and I will leave it to others to describe my research efforts !!

I am loving this, I couldnt confirm some of the rellies, but I can fill in gaps now.

Hi Jackie

I have sent you a message on gr and opened up my tree for you.

Now lets get down to the nitty gritty.

I will start with the Baines side.

We know from the marriage that Sarah Baines father was Isaac.

I have now found Isaac Fullwood and Sarah in the 1881 census, and living with them as Isaac's mother-law (Sarah's mother) is Winifred Baines. Quite an unusual christian name that early. Her age is 82. So that gives Sarah's parents potentially as Isaac Baines and Winifred.

In the 1861 census, Isaac Baines and Winifred are living two doors away from Isaac Fullwood and Sarah in Sedgley !!

That marriage turns out to be Isaac Banes and Winifred Guest at Sedgley on 1st November 1819.

Their children are as follows - All baptised Sedgley.

Sarah (in the name of Bannis 7th March, 1821)
Maria ( in the name Banes 6th June 1824)
Joseph (in the name Bains 9th April 1827)
Isaiah (in the name of Bains baptised 19th January 1829 and
buried 25th January 1829)
Hannah (in the name of Banes baptised 29th September, 1830
and buried 28th October, 1830)
Twins Ann and Mary (in the name of Banes 22nd September 1836
Louisa (in the name of Banes baptised 27th November, 1839
and buried 12th December, 1839)

Looks like Sarah Baines is the eldest child.

Now to the Fullwood side (or whatever spelling was used for them also !!)

18th December 1774 baptised at Sedgley Bernard Fulwood

7th August 1797 marriage at Kingswinford Barnet Fullard/Leah
Porter.

23rd October 1814 baptised at Sedgley Isaac son of Bernard
and Lea Fullwood.

Hope all these ramblings make sense to you.

Just to say that nothing is 100% sure, but I am a bit of a stickler for accuracy as far as you can get it.

I can tell you that if this was my FH, I would be happy with the above.

I have ancestors from Bilston on my Dad's side, and on my mothers side they came from Shropshire and finished up in Essington ( in between then they lived in Shareshill !!..)

Great work, it starts to get you when there is a challenge.
We used to live in Bilston, until 5 years ago, now we are in Uttoxeter. Not far away from Stafford, so we thought we would go. I must say though I didnt know Sedgley would be there, we are also researching Ward family, my partners name, and hid GG Grandfather was born in Shareshill, so that will kill 2 birds as they say.I will be sending our findings to New Zealand, dads sisters live there, and she is interested to see the results too. Are you on Genes Reunited, my tree is on there , if you have access you can view.
How small is the world now, I found another tree beginning with Barnet Fullard, and it came down to a Roy Fullard cc1944 Ettingshall, deceased now, but his address showed he used to live around the corner from us...

I am in the UK. I live in a place called Hednesford near Cannock in Staffordshire.

Just a couple of things before I send you my full findings which I have got to get in to some sort of order.

I can tell you that I have had a major breakthrough this morning on the Baines side !!

Firstly I only live about 7 miles from the Stafford Record Office and that is where microfiche copies of the Sedgley Parish Records are.

In the 1800's, Sedgley was part of Staffordshire and thats why copies are held there. Other copies may be at Dudley, but if you ever want to go and look at them, please let me know. Stafford is a good place to get to in any event, either by car or public transport (train). I have a readers ticket for Stafford.

Secondly, I think I have partially solved the Sarah Fullwood Baines marriage mystery.

I think there is a definite connection with this person and your Fullwood Baines ancestry, and maybe it doesn't greatly matter unless "monkey business" was going on namely bigamy and I am sure it wasn't.

I am sure that this Sarah Fullwood Baines is not your Sarah Baines. I have found Sarah Fullwood Baines marriage to Daniel Davies in my Vital Records and it gives her father as James Fullwood Baines. Your Sarah's fathers name is not James. Her father's name is Isaac.

You will see where she fits in when I e mail you later.

It is a little complicated to collate, so bear with me.

Well that has me beaten. I have scoured the census using all names and variations and cant find an answer.
I checked Marriage records on Genes reu. And there is a record of Sarah Fullwood Baines, and also there is one for Daniel Davis!!! I am stumped.I think she married Isaac cc1838, he died cc1891 she 1887??They are together in 1841 Mount Pleasant, and 1871 The Priory, also in Castle st.
So where did Daniel Davis come from???????

What did you make of the marriage in 1849 between Daniel Davis and Sarah Fullwood Baines.

I began to think that Isaac Fullwood had died and Sarah had remarried using both her maiden and married names, but that can't be so because she is in the 1851 census still with Isaac.

Can you make anything of it. ?

Just out of interest,1851 census, re Leah (Porter) Fullard. I found a Leah Fullard aged 78, a visitor with Isaac Porter and family at Coseley, she was listed as a retired nailor, which seems to fit? ref..HO107/2030, This would date her as cc1773 , death 1858 ref. wolverhampton 6 b 354....could be her???

I am pretty sure I have been in contact before,I started to do the family tree,some time ago , and then put it to one side, now I have gotten going again. I am hoping to go to the records office soon, I suppose it would be Dudley, or Wolverhampton to cover Sedgley area.My father has been able to give me a little info re his Grandfather Ben, I knew he married twice. I now have hise first wife too, which I believe is my GG Grandmother.Its frustrating but very exciting tracking the past down.Wish I werent such a novice.

My Great Grandfather was Benjamin cc1863, and his son Isaac was my Grandfather on my Fathers side. I too have found them in the census records as you mentioned also, check out this web address for marriages Wolverhampton. I have found Sarah as Baines and Banes. It has been suggested to me that Isaacs father was Barnett Fullard and Leah Porter his mother. I cant connect them, but have found their deaths, and also on IGI listed as Fullwood, Barnet and Leah as parents of Rachel cc1808 Sedgley. Isaac had a son Barnett ??? have you found anything further??

Your query is sure fire a puzzler.

I think we may have corresponded in 2006 about this but can't be certain.

I thought I was making headway, and it might still be correct, but something reared its head.

Could you tell me which one of Isaac and Sarah's children you descend from.

I have found the family on 1841,1851,1861 and 1871 census records and then I found the attached info on the IGI.

Does it mean anything to you ?

Hi there, hope you dont mind my email, I have been looking for Barnet Fullard, married to Leah Porter, I am researching Fullwood, bit am told the spelling changes. If its of any interest, I have found a Barnet Fullward s death ref in Dudley, 1840. Jan/Feb/March. Who knows wether hes the one we are all looking for, I have also found a Leah death as 1858, I just want to go 1 back from Isaac Fullwood cc1815 wife Sarah Baines... Good luck hope this may help.

I'm the granddaughter of Ernest Joseph Fullard of Wayne. Was your great grandfather also Alfred, married Rose Heuther? If so, he was my grandfather's brother. I have been able to trace some of the family back to England.

My Grandfather was born in Knutton Staffordshire and I live in Dalton-in-Furness, England, about 4 miles from the Records Office in Barrow-in-Furness. I am researching the Fullard family history in the Furness area where some of the Fullard's from Staffordshire moved to work in the Furness area iron ore mines round about 1860 onwards.

If you are missing any information I could look it up in the Barrow-in-Furness Records Office.

No i haven't got any certificates concerning Barnet. Yes, you are right he did marry a Jane, who i have in my Genes Reunited Family Tree!!!! But didn't know she died so young or that he remarried a Susannah Harsthorne. Thankyou so much for helping me, you are a kind soul!!! So how would I find his parents then? I have only been doing this 'Genes' thing for 10 months,I'm not a paying member of Ancestry and was suprised to be able to recieve messages. Just a couple of things. Have you got the details of Barnet Fullard's marriage ? If so, what is his fathers name ?

I now have found Barnet family in the 1891 census. I have a copy of it also showing John. I can let you have a copy if you wish. I found it just by entering childrens first names.
You will never guess how it has been transcribed. The surname has been written down as Fullwood. The typewritten christian name for Barnet has been transcribed as Varney, but looking at the original census, I read it as Barney.
Everything else ties in nicely because of the following, which I am not sure if you have.

Barnets first wife Jane died in 1885 aged 29 years (I have the GRO ref) He then remarried Susannah Hartshorne in 1889 (again I have the GRO ref)

All these records tend towards the view that Barnet was born about 1852 as you say.

BINGO - I think I have now solved your riddle.

I have found him in the 1861 census and also in the 1852 Dudley Registration District births (which covers Sedgley)_ in the name of BARNARD FULLWARD.

I am not sure how long you have been genealoging ??? but I have come across these spelling anomolies in my ancestry too.

The problem was that in those days, many of our dear ancestors
could not read or write, so that when children were registered or they were baptised, the people writing down in the information had to write it as they thought,

Anyway, I would now be 99.99% certain that we have found him (I don't say that lightly, because in my own ancestry, I will not accept anything as correct unless it reaches that sort of level).

Let me know what you think, and also if you want me to send you any of the information I have found.

Hiya Tony, Thanks for looking. I am certain the Birth Date is correct. There is another Barnett Fullard, spelt with two tt's, but in the registration district of Dudley and in 1842 I think. Thanks for helping, I've been stuck for ages with this. I could only find his details on the 1881 census. I was hoping to get as far back as I could with the tree on my Dad's side. From Stella.

I am now beginning to thing Barnet wasn't sure what his age was when he completed his census records (some of mine didn't seem to know either). I am now beginning to think that he was in fact born in 1842 - I found a birth registration in that name.

It is probably still worth trying to trace it down from the previous Barnet Fullard. I will have a go.

I am positive it is more than co-incidence. Barnet is such an unusual Christian name. It might be worth following things down from this marriage -

None of your "peeps" in my tree, but I have been digging about for Barnet. I found him in a couple of the censuses.

If I am correct, he was married more than once.

I can't find any record of Barnet's birth, but I am going to make a suggestion to you as to why you haven't found his birth as yet.

My theory is that Barnet was a middle Christian name and that he was baptised under his first Christian name. I would go even further and say that my suspicion is that Barnet was his mother's maiden name (quite a common trait in those days to have mother's maiden name as a middle name)

It may well be worth looking for a marriage between Fullard/Barnet - this might throw up Barnet's parents.

hello Brian, we all lived in Heywood, Denise my middle sister still lives there. I live in Atherton near Bolton..Our uncle Herbert moved down to Abingdon many years ago so the family lost touch. I wonder if we have a family resemblance, I have curly hair and blue eyes what about your side? Sue.
