WE ARE ALSO SEARCHING FOR THE FOLLOWING GABBY/GABBIE/GABIE WITH FIRST NAMES JAMES, JOHN AND WILLIAM WHO WENT TO SOUTH AFRICA 1835-1855 OR THERE ABOUT.
JAMES DIED 1892/3 IN OUDTSHOORN EASTERN CAPE SOUTH AFRICA FROM A GUNWOUND. ACCORDING TO OUR RECORDS HE ARRIVED FROM SCOTLAND AND WAS BORN AROUND 1830. UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW AND WHEN HE ARRIVED IN SOUTH AFRICA, AND WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS DIBLINGS. ON OF THE GREATEST PROBLEMS IS THE SPELLING OF THE SURNAME.

My father is Robert Gabbey from Ballyblack and his birth would be registered in Newtownards, Down, Ireland. Ballyblack is only about 5 miles from Newtownards.
I am from Bangor, Down, Northern Ireland another 5 miles from Newtownards. In 1974 I moved to America and I am trying to trace my family roots. My grandfather was James Watson Gabbey but from there back the name is spelled Gebbie.

Donna

According to a document that I received from F.L. Gibby (a Gibby researcher in GA), the brothers of Robert Gabby II (John and Joseph) served in the Revolutionary War. He does not mention Robert as having served but has evidence that he sold materials to the Militia. They were identified by the names Gabey and Gebie in military records.

F.L. Gibby does not identify the wife of Robert I. He lists Robert II's
wife as Ann but I did not find a last name in the document.

While he states that he has no concrete evidence as to the ancestors before Robert I, he feels from his research that they were probably in Lancaster Co. PA before moving to Mecklenburg Co. NC. He thinks Robert I's father might have been a William Gebby.

If you are still interested, I can provide you with an e-mail address for
F.L. Gibby. He has been very helpful to me.

I am a descendant of an Amy C. Gibby who married Isaac Wilkins in
Habersham Co., GA on 1 Feb 1843. I have not been able to identify her
parents. Census information places her birth between 1816 and 1821. The most reasonable guess would be that she is a late daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Gibby or perhaps a daughter of Jonathan's son Samuel. There are problems with both theories. If you have any information, I would appreciate sharing it.

Thanks
Paul Bailey
Hi Gebbie,
I have been searching for some connection before USA. My family resided in Racine Wisconsin USA. I can not find any info on the family except my father was Harry, his dad was Frank and Frank's dad was Charles. I have only found the name spelled as Gabbey. However, family stories say it was spelled Gabbei in Germany. However I have not found any Gabbei. I have seen a James Gabbey from the County of Down Ireland from some port records and marriage records. The Gabbey family which is my surname has been the hardest to trace.

My father
Harry Gabbey DOB 10 Aug 1907 Racine WI USA
His father
Frank G. Gabbey DOB 9 Jan 1883 ?
His father
Charles Gabbey DOB 20 Feb 1850 ?
His father
Gustave Gabbey DOB ? ?

I have seen some data with James Gabbey in it from Ireland. It looked like other family members were mentioned also.

The Gabbey name shows up also in Germany. Why just one Gabbey family in Ireland and many in Germany?

Since as early as I remember I have had an affinity for everything Irish. How does all this connect if it does?

Where on this planet do you live? For your security, if you wish, please be broad.

Your family know would be very interesting. A lady on the east coast USA approaching me about James Gabbey. Have you contacted her? I probably find the email address for her if this is important to you.

The Gabbey family data has been the rarist of all the major families that I decend from. It seen so effective that it may have been intented!

Enough for now. Please respond. I would love to hear from you.
