I came across the following message on the Ancestry messagte board

"I have been searching for a David Gainsbury who was for a while, in Dubai. My mother's maiden name is Gainsbury which we can trace back to the painter, Gainsborough.Any info would be gratefully appreciated. My mother's cousin, Joan Gainsbury, heard from a David Gainsbury in Dubai, but died before she could contact him."

I rather suspect that I am the David Gainsbury you are looking for, although I lived in Brunei for many years, and not Dubai.

I have undertaken a fair amount of research on the Gainsbury name and would of course be pleased to help if I can.

Kind regards,

David Gainsbury

Penny, Glad to hear from you. If your husbands, John Coulbeck, is the one from Brant, Ont, I am somewhat familiar with that family. By my research, my James and John proba came to Ont the same time, poss, with William Coulbeck(bro). I did some research and found a decendant of John living in BC, who said John married his cousin, who was the daughter of James Coulbeck(born 1804) brother. My James(born 1830 Tathwell) lived in Ont until 1881, when he and his family settled in Billings Twp, Gladwin County, Michigan. Jame was a somewhat big time lumbering man, and had a large family, of which, one of their daughters was Mary Colbeck b 1866 Ont...my ggrandmother. Mary was the one who passed down to me how "when she was a young girl(prob in Ont) her mother took her to meet Elizabeth(Gainsborough)Coulbeck". Ive dug into the Gainsboroughs and Coulbecks, and have gotten to Thomas Gainsborough-Ann Snowden(wife) of Lincolnshire as parents of John G. and grandparents of Elizabeth G. My Mary was a very industrious person, married a lumberjack(John C. Swanton b 1863 St. Thomas, Ont) and settled on a farm in Gladwin Co Mi, where i am originally from.
Bruce C.
I am starting to look for my grandfather's side of the family. I know about my grandmother being in England 2 years ago but now trying to get somewhere with my grandfather. He was born Collin Coulbeck, birthplace Yorkshire, district Worksop. His father, Robert Winn Coulbeck, born about 1862 from Claxby Lincolnshire. Any relation?

I am researching a Francis Gainsborough married to John Coulbeck - came to Canada from England (Lincolnshire) around 1870s.

Interesting fact that John Coulbeck's mother was Elizabeth Gainsborough and she is the daughter of John and Mildred Pridgeon.

Hello, I have a Gainsborough in my family tree, from Lincolnshire, England. I beleive all the Gainsboroughs from Lincolnshire are tied in. My family:
John Gainsborough born 1760-70 Lincolnshire, married Mildred (Pridgeon)Kirkham born 1772 Lincolnshire. Daughter: Elizabeth Gainsborough married James Coulbeck, Lincolnshire. Mildred was previously married to a Joseph Kirkham, had three children, then children by John Gainsborough. One younger brother of my Elizabeth (Gainsborough)Coulbeck appears on 1881 Lincolnshire census, Robert Gainsborough married with children, farmer of 130 acres.
Bruce C. Brown
