Hi, in the past I have tried to contact Nancy Gammon as I believe our families maybe cross. I have a family tree, name of Gammon, mainly from Cambridgeshire. They also connect with the name Braid. I know both names have family that emmigrated to the USA.
I received a message tonight from another source that says she found Wilmot's parentage listed in A history of Otisfield, as being Enoch Gammon and his second wife, Betsy Wales. I don't have this book, but I think it can be downloaded......the message just came in. Hope this helps us both.

I have the information on Mehitable Rich's ancestry. In the "Annals of Oxford" Moses Gammon lived on the farm adjoining the farm of Reuben Rich, Mehitable's brother. I think that might be why I felt that Wilmo could be Moses' son. It is possible that that Moses was Wilmot's uncle.

I have the book of New England Gammon's and have read it many times looking for a connection, just cannot find it. Do you have the book? Keep in touch. I guess we are Gr. gr. gr. second cousins of some sort. Happy to hear from you.

I wish I did have some information connecting Moses and Silence Gammon to Wilmot. I have eliminated almost all other possibilities. I don't think I have ever seen a list of Moses' and Silence's children. As I said, I only suspected. Thank you for the information about the move to Gilead, Maine. That might help. If you run across anything about Wilmot's parents, please let me know. I will let you know as well. Thanks.

It looks like we ARE indeed related. My connection is through Andrew C., who moved with Cyrus to Gilead Maine. Wilmot followed, with his second wife, and I believe died there as well. I was not able to make the connection with Moses and Silence, I did not see a son Wilmot. Do you have some information that might connect them?

From what you have written, we are related. Wilmot Gammon was also my gr, gr, gr, gr. grandfather. I am descended from him through his daughter Martha. From "The History of Lewiston, Maine" and the "Report of the Trial of James M. Lowell, Indicted for the Murder of His Wife, Mary Elizabeth Lowell" I have found that Harriet "Tylie" Gammon was married to William Lowell, brother of Jonathan Lowell and that her sister was married to Jonathan Lowell. Harriet was therefore another child of Wilmot Gammon. Her birth date was May 15, 1814, placing her birth between Martha S. and Andrew C.. I still don't know who Wilmot Gammon's parents were. I suspect they are Moses Gammon and his wife Silence.

I see how old your message is, but I have the info you are looking for. Wilmot is my Gr, gr, gr, gr. grandfather. He and Mehitable had the following children. Sarah S, b. Mar. 20, 1808; Martha S., b. Feb. 29th 1812; Andrew C., b. Mar. 22, 1815; Cyrus S., b. May 2, 1818; Wilmouth, b. May 1820; and Robert Slemmons, b. April 23, 1823. His second wife was Mary Goodenow of Bethel, m.a 1829.
I am wondering if you are related to me? I have been searching for so long, to find out where we came from, originally.

This informaiton is in the copies I have from The Dennison Family of North Yarmouth and Freeport, Maine, Decsended from George Dennison, 1699-1747. In this copy is a typed page showing our family line from Rufus Dennison, then his daughter Cornelia Dennision( B:2-17-1829,D: 3-14-1889) married to James E. Gammon who had Guy Dennison Gammon who married Louisa Berg in 1891 in Dodge City KS. They had 6 girls- Gertrude, Irene, Freda, who gave me all this material, Marie, Geneva (my Dad's favorite aunt), Eugenia, and Guy Jr. who they called Sonny. Guy Balcom Gammon was born on 11-12-06.

I can make a copy of this and mail it to you if you like.

Thanks,
Myra

Frank E. Looke married Minnie L. Gammon on 02/04/1879. The 1880 Census in Maine shows them living with Minnie's mother who is listed as Amanda Sammay. Am trying to determine Minnie's parents. Did her mother marry "Sammay" after "Gammon"? Who is Minnie's father and what is Amanda's maiden name?

I just tried googling the Gammon book, even copied and pasted word for word, but no luck. I also tried archive.org, where I've found Buckfield, Peru and Rumford town histories online. Again no luck. I don't suppose you have a link to where you found it? Thanks a bunch!

There's mention of Wilmot and Mehitable on pg 392 of A history of Otisfield, Cumberland County, Maine from the original grant to the close of the year 1944.
"Gammon, Enoch, son of William of another family, married 1st int. Sept. 3 1811, Mary (Stevens) Gammon, the widow of his brother Nicholas. She died Sept. 16, 1817. He married 2nd int. May 4, 1819, Betsey Wales. She died Apr. 15, 1876."
I was hoping to find it at archive.org, but no such luck. The info I did get was from an ancestry search. I didn't see a list of their kids, but it was a quick search. I hope this helps!

I don't have tons, some names and dates and would be interested in corresponding with fellow Gammons. My email is krichard@gwi.net. I'll have to look online for this Gammon history I've seen mentioned in 2 different threads. This is an exciting find for me!
:-)
My husband and I visited there last summer and went to the grave-site in West Branch of Ross Gammon, blacksmith, and his wife Martha MacKinnon, as well as their son and his other wife after Martha died in her early 50s. Could you please give me any information?

Most Sincerely,

Dianna Henning

I have just been in Chatteris the last couple of days. My wife and I viewed Church Records. Frederick Douglas Braid married Mary Jane Gammon on 21st July 1890. Less than 8 weeks later their first son Albert Edward Braid was born on 12th Sept 1890. His Baptism was on 5th Oct 1890. Mary Jane (Gammon) is my Great Grand Aunt! Gammons and Braids marry againg in the next generation! This time, my Great Uncle Fred (Christened - Charles Frederick Gammon) marries Bridgit Braid. In 1923 they emmigrate to America, they have 3 daughters, Kathleen (born in UK) and Annie and Mary. I have photographs and letters. One photo shows Kathleen, as a baby, with her Grandparents, Thomas and Susannah, shortly before they emmigrate. I can be contacted on wilma.gammon@sky.com I am trying to trace what happened to Kathleen, Annie and Mary. A post card I have shows their Mother, Bridgit, as being ill in Swedish National Sanitorium, Englewood, Colorado. Her husband is my Great Uncle (Fred).

Hi Dorothy, would love to get information on John, as we have a John that is somewhat of a mystery man. Our John was born around 1813 we think. He shows up in Surry County, NC around 1840-1850 and then disappears around 1880 (last on the 1880 census for Surry Co.). We have searched everywhere in NC and VA for birth certificates, marriage bonds, and/or death certificates and have been unsuccessful. He is my husband's GGG Grandfather. The only thing we have found him to be on is his son's marriage bond listed as parent, along with his wife Rachel King. If you don't mind sharing information with me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Julie Gammons

I will be taking a trip back home to Herrin IL next month and was hoping to visit some of the grave sites while I am there to help with my research. Will be visiting Cook Cemetery in Mulkeytown.I believe but not certain that Elizabeth Cassandra Gammon and J.D. Gammon and Samantha Jones are buried there.I was wondering if anyone knows for sure where they are buried. I would be willing to share any photos or info that I gather on my trip. Thank you for your time.
