Dear Darlene: I think you are correct -- our grandmothers were sisters. Other sisters were Rose and Anna (who never married and lived in San Francisco). I have a sister, Alice, with whom I am sharing this information. It will be fun to share photographs and other information. Also, can you describe which members of the family are still in St. Cloud? I wish I knew how to describe family relationships. We are either second cousins or first cousins once or twice removed. Where do you live in California? I grew up in West Los Angeles from the age of 14 onward and went to Stanford. I now live in Washington DC and have done so since 1974. D.C. has the advantage of having an excellent library for genealogical research sponsored by the DAR. That's where I found the photographs of Rev. Leo Gans' church. Has anyone found a copy of Matthias Gans' will? Let's keep in touch. Elaine

Hello Elaine, my name is Darlene. Although it is not surprising, it is amazing just how many family members I have been able to locate. I keep binders on the families I am currently working with. I have been working on my dad's, as well as my moms families. I have photos of some of the Gans family members, as they sent them to me when they traveled for a wedding of a family member. So I believe you and I are 2nd cousins(?), I think. Sometimes I'm not real good at stating the relationship, but the way it sounded, your grandmother, and my grandmother were sisters. Hope I have that correct. I'll have to share all of this with my sister. She will be so excited as I am to locate another family member.

Best regards,
Darlene :)

Thank you for your quick reply. I will mark my calendar for your return on September 20th. I also have an obituary for Matthias Gan (two, in fact). In addition, I have photographs of the interior or the church where Father Leo preached, as well as a detailed obituary. I should have mentioned that my father's full name was Lewis Matthias Morton. By the way, what is your first name?

Best regards, Elaine

My sincere thank you for your information. I have quite a bit of additional information, and photos, however, at the current time I am visiting my sister in Worthington, Minnesota. My grandmother is Wilhemina Gans Treischel. I do have an excellent obituary of Grandfather Gans (granma Treischel's father), and will be happy to copy and send it on to you if you would like. I live in California, and I will be going home on 9/20/2011, at which time, I can give you additional information. I do know the Gans family finally settled in St. Cloud, MN, which is where there are still many family members. I would be glad to give you my e-mail address if you would like. In addition, I have located several other Gans family members, and I am sure they would also be interested in any of your information, as well as myself.

Thank you again!

My grandmother, Mary Gans Morton is your grandmother's sister. I, too, have the photograph of Matthias Gans and Eva and thir 13 children. I also have the newspaper account, with a photograph, of Fr. Leo Gan's funeral (3000 people attended). The family came from Trier, Germany. I've actually been there. It has a Roman bridge. I am very interested in any other information you discover and want to share. The name Treischel is a familiar one from letters my grandmother kept. Was her first name Rose?
Mary Gans had three children. Her second son was named Lewis Morton and was my father. Elaine Morton

And hello to you also dear cousin! Finding family after all of these years is just so terrific! I, like you, really don't know where to begin! I have a family photo of Mathias & Eva Gans, although I don't know the date it was taken. It shows 13 children plus Mathias and Eva. I will be going back to our "home town" of St. Cloud Minnesota the end of this month and staying through September. My sister and I are going to travel several areas seeking additional genealogical information. We will be visiting with several of our cousins who are children of Evelyn Rose (Treischel) Laudenbach. Evelyn is the oldest child of Grandma Minnie Treischel. I believe she had approximately 15 children. I am going to give you my e-mail, and if you would like to communicate that way (I can also scan and send you pictures), just send me a note. E-mail: dranaej@yahoo.com. This is very exciting for me, and I know it will be for my sister also!

Darlene :)

Hi Cousin,

I see your Grandmother Minni is my grandfather, John Joseph's sister. I have these wonderful photos of Matthias and Eva, our great grandparents. Their large portraits hang in our family room.

I hardly know where to start. Matthias Gans was born in Büdesheim Germany December 8, 1829. (But maybe you know that.) My husband and I visited this town. We met a family that could have been descendents though that was not clear.

Eva Pung was born in Kelberg, Germany January 6, 1845. We also visited Trier, Germany is search of a birth certificate for Eva.

My sister-in-law, Joanne and my brother, Ray Gans visited the library and museum in St. Cloud just this last month to do some research.

In answer to your question about the ship, my sister-in-law attended a workshop that told about the ships and when different areas arrived on them, but I do not think we ever found any information.

The history and family of Mathias and Eva are indeed remarkable. Our records of Eva Pung go back to 1699 whereas we only know Matthias Gans parents were Eva Braun and Johann Gans from Landman.

I do not belong to Ancestry.com but I am able to post to these notices. I look forward to sharing and getting to know you.

My very best wishes, Susan (named after my grandmother Gans).

Thank you for your response. I am working on several of my families, on both my mother's side and my father's side! Fr. Leo Gans is my grandmother's brother. I do have a picture of 13 of the children along with their parents. I will be going back to St. Cloud, Minnesota, and hopefully I will be gathering a considerable amount of information, as we have several cousins back there. I am most happy to send you pics and any information I gather. At this point, I am very interested in where in Germany the Gans family came from. I have never been to Germany, so I am most interested. My membership in Ancestry.com includes the world wide, which will give me access to places in Germany. My grandmothers married name was Treischel. She married Ernest B. Treischel. Of course, both of their parents came from Germany. Do you know which port the Gans family immigrated into? After locating some of our pics, I will definitely e-mail you copies. And, thank you again so very much.

Hello, this is a rather old post, so I don't know if you are still actively in here. I am also related to Fr. Leo Gans, and I was born in St. Cloud, MN. His sister is my grandmother. Any information you could share would be most appreciated. I also have much information I would be more than happy to share with you. I also have photos, etc. I believe I have a picture of Fr. Leo Gans. Did you know he had a brother who also was a priest? Please let me know if you are interest. And, thank you so much. It is so exciting when one can locate "family".

Danny Gans,

LAS VEGAS (AP) -
Danny Gans, one of the most popular entertainers on the Las Vegas Strip for nearly two decades,
died in his sleep Friday. He was 52.

his wife Julie,
his children, Amy, Andrew and Emily .

Henderson police didn't immediately respond to messages seeking comment, and the Clark County coroner's office said no information about Gans was immediately available.

"All of us in The Mirage family are deeply saddened to learn of Danny's passing," said Scott Sibella, president of The Mirage, in a statement released through parent company MGM Mirage Inc.

Gans, who performed at The Mirage for more than eight years, moved to the Encore Theater in February. The electronic marquee in front of the Encore posted his picture and the message: "Our friend forever, Danny Gans. 1956-2009."

Steve Wynn, chief executive of Wynn Resorts, called Gans' death "a profoundly tragic event that leaves us all sad and speechless."

"The loss of Danny to his wife Julie, his children, Amy, Andrew and Emily is at this moment impossible to comprehend," Wynn said in a statement.

Gans did rapid-fire imitations of personalities ranging from Tony Bennett to Al Pacino to Sarah Vaughan.

He performed a one-man show, "Danny Gans on Broadway: The Man of Many Voices," in 1995 at the Neil Simon Theater in New York before returning to Las Vegas.

Gans opened Feb. 10 in the 1,500-seat Encore Theater in a concourse between the posh Encore and Wynn resorts on the Strip.

His manager, Chip Lightman, released a statement saying Gans would be remembered as an entertainer and a man who loved his family, God and the city of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas.news,
Julius Jantz married Emilie Seehafer Dec 21,1877. Then in 1884 he married Amanda Hoge. I am wondering if he had any children with Emilie Seehafer and I do not know when she died or got a divorce. I cannot find her in any cemetery in Manitowoc County. I did find Julius and Amanda's grave stone at St John St James cemetery in Reedsville. Emilie Seehafer was my ggrandmothers sister. Could you email me a copy of the obit for Julius Jantz.DO you know who the father was of the adopted daughter and was Amanda married before Julius?
I have Julius Jantz possibly born in Watertown, but can't confirm it. He died in Reedsville in July of 1914. His obit said he had moved to Reedsville from Curtis, WI where he had been farming. It also said he was survived by his wife and adopted daughter, Anna. I don't have much information on Emilie, but do have some on second wife Amanda Hoge.

Re: African American Gans

There was a famous African American boxer in the early 1900's by the name of Gans. I have seen some cards with his pic on ebay. I don't know if he changed his name as so many famous people do or if that was his birth name. Most of the Gans in pre civil war America were descended from George Balthazar Gans who came to America about 1719 and brought the Bretheran religion with him. The Bretheran religion was anti-slavery so the chances of his ancestors getting their name from a slave owner is remote. Have you been able to trace any of yours? I have been researching the Gans line for a while and haven't run into any except European decent. My own line goes back pretty fast. They married when older and my own seem to be the younger of the families. I would love to know more. You can contact me at: nagamon@execpc.com
A. Chris Gans

I was talking to my mom today, and she has more memories of Susie and Alfred. She (Susie) sounded like a great gal!! Last night, I was just googling 'Feitler',because it is my maiden name, and I was very wide awake, and came across your post - but you had posted so long ago, I wasn't sure if you would check again. :) Have a great night!!

Re: ELDREDGE-GANS WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT

Thanks for posting this. They were my maternal grandparents. My mother was their eldest daughter Mary Harriet. Several years ago I spent a lot of time pulling together documentation (birth/marriage death certificates) to join the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (through Larry) and the Somerset Chapter, Magna Carta Barons (through Helen). I am getting around to joining the Founders and Patriots of America (through Larry) and have been invited, due to my Magna Carta lineage, to join the Plantaganet Society. Plantagenet was father of King Henry II, and it blew me away that I'm a descendant of royalty! It's a very cool thing to be able to trace my lineage back almost 1000 years, and an awesome legacy to pass on to my almost 16 year old son.

My paternal grandfather was Harold Dewey Smith, director of the Bureau of the Budget under FDR, 1939 to 1945.

Ironically, my mother & father were never married, just dated a couple times, and I was born out of wedlock. That fried Larry Eldredge as he was very high society in Philadelphia, president of many boards & community organizations, and the year was 1961. But I grew up very close to my grandparents and they loved me very much.

Thank You! Sorry it took so long for a reply but my wife and I run a tax service and this time of year is crazy. It sounds like we come from the same Daniel Gans. If you would prefer I could call you. Otherwise we could continue to email. I have some info on Louis, born in 1820 and produced a large family also. The trail went cold until I heard from you. I would love more info on Daniel. My uncle once told me that John Adams was in our line but he was not a very reliable source. There was a family Bible page that had all of Louis's children in it but I saw it many years ago and no one seems to know where it went. My email is nagamon@execpc.com.
Again, Thank You!
Arthur (Chris) Gans

Gans afamily in New Orleans

I am trying to trace my grandfather's ancestry. His name was Charles Gans. He lived in New Orleans during the late 1800s. He died before 1930. He was married to Andrea Mary Romero. They had a daughter named Virginia Frances Gans who married George Trower in 1941. I am the oldest son of Virginia and George. Virginia died in Norfolk Va. when I was 4 years old. From what I can tell she was an only child and both of her parents died prior to her marriage to George Trower, little is known of their background. If anyone has information regarding this line I would appreciate hearing from you.
