From the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth,Livingston,Illinois

MATTHEW T. GARDNER
MAY 14, 1909

The people of this community were greatly shocked and grieved on Friday (May 7) evening to learn of the death of Matthew T. Gardner, which occurred at his late home northwest of this city from heart disease. For some time Mr. Gardner had known that his lease on life was uncertain and he had made special preparations for a sudden summons.
Deceased was born in Dimmick, LaSalle county, Illinois, July 25, 1858, and at the age of two years, with his parents he moved to Kansas where he live for five years, returning to Illinois and resided on a farm until he was of age. In 1880 he came to Livingston county and located on the farm, one-half mile north and three miles west of Chatsworth, where he resided until his death.
On February 8, 1881, he united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Dwyer, of Lowell, LaSalle county and to this union three children were born-- Chester J., Alice L. and Arthur D. -- who, with their mother, survive. About fifteen years ago Mr. Gardner united with the Forrest Congregational church. He was one of a family of fourteen children, twelve of whom, six brother and six sisters survive him.
The funeral services were held at one o'clock on Monday at the family residence, Rev. J.H. Waterby, of Chicago, officiating, and the interment was at the Forrest cemetery.

Gladys,
Bob Gardner has kindly done all he is able to do given the rules of familytreedna.
So I decided to ask the general genealogical Gardiner/Garner community for help.
I just looked up your results. Of the 37 commonly tested points only 30 match.
It would be a long shot to hope to find a paper trail with that sort of match.
Derek now has a paper trail back to the mid 1700s, Anglo-Irish, in Ireland.
Dereks kit # is 215166.
Derek's family must have had roots in England perhaps well before 1700. I'd be glad to share what I know.
Feel free to email me at sandra.gardiner@verizon.net
I believe that I descended from Sir Osbern le Gardyner, Knight, Lord of the Manor of Horul (now Orell) on Douglas River, Wigan Parish, West Derby Hundred, County of Palatine, Lancaster, England.

It is said that Gardner killed a Saracen bearing down on King Richard the Lionheart in battle.

The Gardner family has been "prominent in Great Britain as far back as the First Crusades."

There are many families in New England who have descended from him. The fact is that he had descendants all over the world. The other families with the name came from immigrants with names similar.

I believe the Gardner surname means guardian, to guard and protect.

There was a knight named William the Carpenter because of his strength in battle.

Does anyone have information on Sir Osborn Gardner or believe they descended from him?

My email address is GARDNERCA89@aol.com

Anyone have a John Gardner missing in their lineage. trying desperately to find parents of John D. Gardner. I am assuming he lived around Guildford county, NC since the earliest listing I can find of his wife on census is in Guildford I think his mothers's name was Nancy. He was married to a Elizabeth(Lizzie) Harris. They had three children I know of Mollie(my great-grandmother) and twins Mattie and Hattie. I just can't find anything on this line of my family. Mother always said their was Cherokee blood in her and she looked it. Anyone having any leads I could try and check out please let me know.I know this isn't much to go on but that is about all I have. I do know most of the children die in their 20's and early 30's, Even my grandmother Claudia Gardner Howard died in her early 30's

Hi there! We emailed a few times briefly over the years. I am LaRue Ditzler's daughter. John Ditzler was my grandfather and Matilda Fulton my great-grandmother. I am, like you, researching the Cherokee heritage. I get stuck on Jack Fulton being half-Cherokee and half French. I am having trouble with the Gardner side. I have the names, but no stories. Any sharing between us would be wonderful.

Thank you!

Samantha Jacobs-Fritcher

I am looking for relatives of my husband's family. His father was Clyde Bunyan Gardner whose father was John Bunyan Gardner. John Bunyan Sr had another son whose name was also John Bunyan Jr. John Bunyan Sr had daughters Edna Gertrude and Betty. These folks all lived in and around Lancaster, Camden and Columbia. John Bunyan Sr was a Baptist minister.

I have a copy of a letter written to John (not sure which John) dated July 22, 1981 signed by Your cousin Miles Gardner. I am having trouble following the lines listed in the letter. Some of the Gardner names mentioned are George W (1838-1874), William Ransom (25 JAN 1825-19 Dec 1900), James W, Robert ( 1720-1797), Isaac (1770-1832), Issac (1804-1895), Chaplain Levy (1827/28-186?), Nellie A(Feb 1830-Aug 1906), Hettie (1834-1880, Samuel(1840-186?), James W(3 Sept 1844-26 may 1918, Queen Ann ( June 1851-1920). The letter speaks of grandfather's and great grandfather's but I can't figure out the line. Any help would be appreciated.

I only go back to a Jacob Franklin Gardner (d 1875) who was married to a Sarah O. Tudor (b 1843)dau of John Tudor. Apparently this Bernard Gardner also had a son Jacob Gardner but the son is too old to be the Jacob Franklin Gardner in my tree. if anyone can shed any light - it would be awesome!

The past few years were spent in suffering which terminated fatally October 6, 1925, she having attained the age of 68 years, 8 months and 7 days.
The remaining children are: Geo., of Sargent, Nebr.; Philip, Tony, Mrs. Margaret Webber and Mrs. Esther Lincoln of Scotia; Mrs. Carrie Keep of Elm Creek. She also leaves one brother, Chris Gross of Butte, Mont., and three sisters, all residing in California, Mrs. Anna Becker of San Francisco, Mrs. Mary Bushnell of Fresno, and Mrs. E. Geiselhart of Galt. The above named relatives and a host of friends are mourning today, because of the passing on of this good woman.
The funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, October 8, at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. V. Price. Interment was made in the Scotia cemetery.
The people of this entire community extend their sincere sympathy to the sorrowing family in this, their time of bereavement.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

I am searching for information on my grandmother, Dora Gardner. She was born in Duck Hill, MS, circa 1877. Her mother was Emma Gardner. They are found in 1900 in the Oktibbeha County, MS, census. Lowndes County is adjacent to Oktibbeha County. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Dorothy Ellis

Interested to know if you have had any success finding the Journal of Moses Isaac Gardner. Two years ago I visited my Great-Aunt Norma Weber, she is still living, and at the time was 94, and I held that Journal in my hands. My cousin and my sister have since taken the book to the LDS History Library and we have copies of the Journal on DVD. If you are aware of this then that is okay, if not I know where you can get DVD copies of the Journal.

Andrea Tucker
