Could I be related to Giuseppe Garibaldi?

My paternal grandmother's name was Maria Garibaldi and she was born in Ne, Genoa Italy. She came to the U.S. in 1904. I visited my cousin there a few years ago and she directed me to a stone house on her property with a sign designating it as a home to Giuseppe Garibaldi. Perhaps he lived there at some point. I don't know. I have pictures of this stone house and the sign. I'm trying to find a connection to my grandmother, especially since my granddaughter is doing a project on ancestry. Thanks for any help on this.

Andre (father) & Charlotte Catherine (daughter) Garibaldi

One of my g-g-grandmothers was Charlotte Catherine Garibaldi, born about 1832 in or around Genoa, died July 21 1865 in New Orleans. Married Louis (Luigi) Spotorno May 11 1850 in New Orleans (an arranged marriage). She was a daughter of Andre Garibaldi, born 1798 in Genese, Italy, died April 15 1865 in New Orleans, married possibly Marie Barabino of Genese, Italy. These don't seem to have any relation to all the Garibaldi's previously mentioned on this msg board.

I recognize some of the names
mentioned, it definately is a start anyway. I'm pretty sure my grandfather's
name was Joseph, I remember my mother calling him "Joe" in reference to him.
In answer to your questions, I'll do my best.
I know my grandfather passed away, I'm not sure when - I heard that it was
around 1955 or so (although I tried tracking an obit from the newspaper
through the library but it turned up no obit). I never knew if he had
remarried after my grandmother Lillie passed away. It is possible since the
newspaper article regarding her murder stated that they were separated for
about 8 years prior to her death. My aunt Emily was married to Eusebe
Clement( a barber) not sure of the date and I heard of a stillborn son or he
passed away shortly after birth, no other children. When she passed away in
1967 I don't know if Mr. Clement was still living or not.
My uncle Ronald is still living in Dulac and he was married to Emily
Gregoire, she passed away in 1997. I don't believe they had any children
together, though she had several children from a previous marriage.
My facts are so few and far between unfortunately. I wish I had more
information to share and if I come across any I'll gladly pass it on to you.
Thank you again for being so helpful, it is greatly appreciated. Talk to you
soon.
Take care also.
Mary Rushing
Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Notes for LILY LILIANNE MARIE AUTHEMENT:
Entry in Houma Newspaper Deaths: Lillie Authement, age 58, died July 23, 1952.
My ancestry is also in Amador County. I have some connections to Garibaldi through my Bona/Botto family. For that reason I also collected some stuff on the Garibaldis and Rossis. The most interesting thing is Domenica's nephew was mayor of San Francisco in the 30's - Angelo Rossi Jr. If you contact me at janetf83@hotmail.com I'll send you the genealogy report I have. Please excuse any Garibaldi mistakes, as I've just cobbled together info as I came across it.
Janet Viada Friedberg

Garibaldi's in California

I am looking for information on my great grandfather's siblings. My great grandfather, Charles Garibaldi, claims to have come through Ellis Island in 1900 at the age on 15 on the ship Lorraine. I have searched every which way and cannot find a record to confirm this. His parents were Anthony and Theresa (ne. Bogiano or Boggiano) Garibaldi. They had a vineyard in Genoa, Italy. His mom died when he was 10 and his father died sometime before that. He had three brothers and one sister who went to California and one sister who went to Argentina. I know one of the California brothers was named Adolph. (Again, no Ellis Island record.) I know this guy is real because my dad and great uncle met him in the 1940's or '50's. He was in Stockton, CA. My dad said there was another brother who had a grocery or some sort of store in a town about 20 miles south of Stockton, but he couldn't remember the name. If anyone knows the names of the other siblings and/or where exactly they came from in Italy, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

My grandfather told me that the Garibaldi's in New Jersey were second cousins to ? him, ? his father? Don't know. But my grandfather's father was Charles Garibaldi, from somewhere in Genoa. Charles claims to have arrived at Ellis Island in 1900 at the age of 15 on the ship Lorraine, but there is no record of this. Anyway, Charles' parents were Anthony and Theresa (ne Boggiano or Bogiano) Garibaldi and they had a vineyard. I thought I could maybe work backwards from the NJ cousins to try to figure out exactly where the family was from, but didn't make much headway. As for General Garibaldi, I was always told that he didn't have any sons to carry on the name, only daughters. If that is true, there woudnl't be any direct discendents witht the Garibaldi name, unless someone married a cousin or other with that last name. But again, I don't know how true that is.
I was born in Alta Gracia, Cordoba. My Mother is Myriam Garibaldi de Tryferis. My Grandfather was Alfredo Garibaldi. My great Grandparents were born in Italy and immigrated to Argentina in the late 1800's. My Grandfather died in Alta Gracia in 1931 or 1932. I would love to know and learn more as my Italian ancestors have been a mystery ever since. My Grandmother was French and not accepted by the Italian in-laws. Once my Grandfather died, her and my Mother were left to the Awero side of the family.

I welcome any information (206)290-0162

Anna Garibaldi, b.1854, married John Canepa, lived Virginia

I have an original 8x10 studio photograph of “Grandpa John B. Canepa, Grandma Anna (Garibaldi) Canepa, and Aunt Elvira “Veta” (Canepa) McKeefrey”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1905-1910, and John looks about 65, Anna about 55 and Elvira about 20.

I found a few items of data regarding these people. In the 1910 census for Richmond, VA, John B. and Anna Canepa lived (he 68, she 58). In 1930, Anna G. Canepa, a widow, age 76 still lived in Richmond, VA, with two of her children. SSDI shows an Elvira McKeefrey birthdate 3 Nov 1887 VA – and died 1967 VA.

The NY Passenger List shows a ship manifest dated 12 Oct 1905, showing immediately following one another: 1) Angela Garibaldi (48); 2) Leo or Geo Babba Canepa (64); Fnna Garibaldi (52); and Elvira Canepa (17). The Fnna surely could be interpreted as Anna.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Anna Garibaldi Canepa of VA.

According to the Famous Welsh website

http://www.famouswelsh.com/

Guiseppe Garibaldi the had a Welsh grandmother. Unfortunately they don't name her or give a source for the claim.

I would like to know if there is any truth in this story or if it is just a myth, so I would be pleased to hear from anybody who knows who Garibaldi's grandparents were or from anybody who can tell me which sources are available to search for this information.
I finally found your message on a message board. All the information you listed sounds like it matches. I have been searching for information for so long. I don't recall my mother (Lucille Josephine Garibaldi) who is deceased ever mentioning Felix. Although she may have and I just don't remember. I do have some other names you didn't mention --
Louis Marius, Louise Emelie, Antoine Jimmy, and John Charles. These were names someone found while doing some geneology work years ago.
It would be great to correspond with you.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

It sounds like we are related. Joe and Lillian had three children - Emily, Roland and Lucille (my mother). Do these names sound familiar to you?

Re: Looking for Garibaldo Family!

I am also looking into the family tree, looking for Francisco Garibaldo Jr., also known as "Pancho"(he would be our oldest uncle-our grandfather's first son from a previous marriage). He lived in Arizona for most of his life and I only met him on two occasions when I was about ten years old and again when I was about twenty. I found his ex-daughter-in-law(Simon's ex-wife), living in Nevada and I never heard from her again, but said that Frank's wife Modesta is still living. I have heard that our grandfather's last name originally was Garibaldi and that either his father or his grandfather was adopted by the Garibaldi/Garibaldo family. I seem to have a hard time linking grandpa Garibaldo in any aspect other than that of the husband of our grandmother Seberina Colunga Garibaldo. I have found quite an extensive amount of info on her family with the little that I know. I will send more info later.
Lisa, I hope you are who I think you are!
Your cousin, Chrissy R.

My great-grandfather, Luigi Garibaldi (and I think his middle name was Giuseppe) came to northern California in the early 20th century, from Genoa via New York. I know he had other family here as well, including at least one brother and, I think, some cousins. He married, settled in VAllejo and raised a family. If that sounds at all familiar, let me know...
