Hi, I haven't been on this site for a long time and because of contact from another Garstang visited again. Billy, I have some family tree work that an uncle did that I've now expanded. Anyway, your mother and father appear on my chart so I can see clearly the connection. (My Garstang ancestors left England and settled in Iowa, but I think he was a brother to the Garstang who settled in MO.) I will email you, also.

I am Billy Ernst, son of Bill and Lorraine. Mom was Mary Lorraine Garstang, daughter of John & Leona. Their children were Speed, Marion, Janet, Lorraine, and Carmine. Marion had children Don & Diane on the east coast. Speed had Carol, Jim, and Gene in Missouri. Gene is still in Chamois. My siblings are Gerri Gayle and Mary. We just had our first GArstang reunion in Chamois this summer and are interested in developing stronger ties with our wonderful cousins and also connecting with other relatives. I am at ernstwg@bv.com if you get this.

I just stumbled onto this site. I am Bill Ernst. My mother was Mary Lorraine Garstang from Chamois, MO. Her siblings were Marion, Janet, Speed, and Carmin. I visited Garstang, England a while back and there are still quite a few Garstangs in Preston, England. We recently had our first small Garstang reunion in Missouri and are interested in connecting with other relatives. I am at ernstwg@bv.com if you get this. I'm not sure if this goes to the web site or your email.

Our Garstangs seem to have originated in Settle moving to Bolton in later generations.
Good Luck
Margaret

Garstang family from Preston, England

I have Worsick Garstang in my tree who was born in Preston in 1847 and emigrated to USA, (Massachusetts) in the 1880's. I've traced most of his descendants. His father was Henry Garstang, born Preston 1811. I think Henry had a brother Richard, born 1806. I believe that John Richard Garstang, born Preston 1835 is his son. He emigrated to USA and died in California in 1927. Has any one any further suggestions which might help?

Your Garstang family sounds very close to mine. One of us could be off a little on names or dates. My Great, great grandfather on my Mothers side was Edward Collin and he came over on the Servia with his brother Henry. He had two sons and 2 daughters one was named Margery. But the dates are slightly off.

Hi

I have started to trace my Wife's family tree. Her Grandmother was a Garstang and the Garstangs I have traced so far are very solidy in Bolton (I go back as far as Robert Garstang b 1845).

Does this link in anywhere with your tree? I'd be very interested in any link.

Thanks

Bob

Re: The Lancashire Link

I am Ian Garstang, I used to live in Preston and had grandparents in Garstang. I am only 24 and the Son on Edward and Hilary Garstang. My Father was one of 4 children (Ian, Edward, Lorna an June). My Grandparents were called Alma and John and my nanna was a feild nurse in the second world war.

As far as I know there was a book called 'Generation to Generation' floating around my family which noted hundreds of Garstangs with pictures of grand family crypts and all sorts. It also states that our oldest recorded relative was a Viking in Holland called 'Gair'

Anyway, some of my family still live in Preston (my sister Rachel for one) and my brother lives in Surrey (Oliver) whereas I live in Suffolk.

I also found another 'Ian Garstang' which is why I ended up here who sent me this message:

I'm from Chorley, although the family is spread around Lancashire somewhat . My Dad (David) was born in Preston, son of Francis Garstang who's one of 5(?) kids, (Winifred, Maureen, Jack, Agnes and
Francis).

My grandad had 7 uncles who lived in and around Garstang around the
time of the first world war, could you be descended from them? i
think further back we lived in yorkshire for a time (my great-grandad
was born in Yorkshire) but there are records of Garstangs owning
mills in East Lancs around the 1830s. My uncle (John) knows more
about the family history. I can pass you on to him if you'd like?

Ian
Seeking any info on my Great Grandfather Edward C. Garstang. I believe he came from England on the Servia in 1892 at the age of 18. He traveled with Henry who I think might be his brother. Edward married Sadie Ransford in 1983. I am not sure how many children they had but my Great Grandmothers name was Marjorie E. Garstang and was born in Willimstown, Massachusetts. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My mother is a Garstang. She grew up in Belle, MIssouri as well as my grandfather, Guy Garstang, and my great-grandfather, Ray Garstang. My granparents still live in Belle. The Garstangs are a big name around the area of Belle because of their buisness history. My great-grandfather was in the furniture buisness and also had a gas company which my grandfather worked at as well. These buisnesses no longer exist but the gas company still carries the name Garstang gas company. I know that the Garstangs originated from Garstang ,England because we have a family name plate at my granparents house. MY mother has always wanted to visit there because she wants to learn more about our family history. We live in MIssouri also and have never been over there, but if anyone has anymore information on the Garstangs then please resond.

I knew Ray, bought lots of furnature from him! Billy was the only eye doctor we went to as I was growing up. Did you ever hear them talk about Speed Garstang? He was my grandfather, son of John Richard, and lived in Chamois, Mo.
My mom, Carol Garstang, remembers your father and knows of several of the rest. I'm trying to find who came before John Richard. Maybe the answers lie in the Garstang ancestry book? I look forward to hearing from you again.

My father is also named Guy Garstang (HVAC Co. Owner was St. Louis. son of the Ray Garstang you listed. Ray Garstang (large retail business owner & math teacher. 1 son Guy William, Belle. 3 Daughters Margie, Millie & Ellaray) & William (Bill, Eye Doctor 3 sons Greg, Dennis, Jim 1 daughter Patricia?) lived in Belle Mo. USA. near Jeff city. Ray is now dead. William still living, I think Rodert (Bob, Lawyer) died in state of California he was oldest & Bill was youngest. Tom lived in Tenn. as clock repairman (may be dead now?). I have 1 Brother Matthew Guy & 1 sister Catherine beth Garstang, Wine 2 sons 1 daughter. I live in St. Charles, Mo. formaly Eldon, MO. Married to Pamela we have 2 sons Roger Lee & Randy Alan both in collage. seems the families don't stay intouch like old times? hard to keep up. My Dad has a Garstang history book of the old names "Garstang from generation to generation". Nice to find a thread of something anyway.
