Love the pic of Sanville you posted. It gave me chills when I saw it. My dad looks just like him. Sanville is my great-great gandfather. Murphy is my grandfather and Norman (Chock) Gaspard is my dad. I do have a pic of Murphy Gaspard (one of his sons). I'm a new member and still learning how to navigate. Plan to post pic soon. Thanks!

Cubie is the brother of my Grandfather Rosemore Paul Gaspard. The other siblings are Filmore, Elster and a 1/2 brother Douglas Dauzat. Cubie was born in 1919 and died in 1984 in Moncla, Louisiana. My Great Grandparents and Rosemore and Cubie's Parents are Lula Dauzat (1889-1989) and Francois Alfred Gaspard. Francois is the son of Marcaline Dupuis (1828-1900) and Francois Gaspard (1825-1900). I've just begun to dig around a little. I think we are descendants of Clement Jouineau, but only more research will determine that for sure.

Hi, Chrissy. I'm wondering the same thing. I have a few Napoleons on my tree who are often listed as Paul, and it can't be that everyone has the same middle name. I don't know the answer for sure yet, but it seems possible that Paul is a shortened, or modernized version of Napoleon.
Maureen

HI, I posted before, but thought it couldn't hurt to post again, because I a seriously stumped!

My GG grandmother was name MARY(or Marie) GASPARD MONCIS. I have her obit, which also list a brother ARISTILLE GASPARD, and a sister EUGENIE GASPARD SCHEXNAYDER. Eugenie was married to ADONIS SCHEXNADER. But the obit did not list her parents names.

I found Mary's death certificate in the Louisiana archives, and it list PAUL GASPARD as her father, and list no mother. I also found the death certificate for Aristille Gaspard, adn it list NAPOLEON GASPARD AND ELIZABETH CHAMPAGNE as parents.

I also found a 1910 census record Police Jury Ward 8, Vermilion, Louisiana, showing Adonis Schexnayder, living with Eugenie, and a NAPOLEON GASPARD listed as his Father in Law. Napoleon was listed as born about 1836 in Louisiana and widowed.

Is PAUL a "nickname" for NAPOLEON? Or is his name Paul Napoleon Gaspard? Or maybe Napoleon Paul Gaspard. I also need ANY HELP AT ALL making a connection to Mary's parents.

Please help if you can, I will be happy to share any info I have as well!

Thank you
Chrissy

I have Eugenie Gaspard m. Adonis Schexnayder in my database but the only date associated with them is a marriage license purchased in Acadia Parish. Since no parents were listed, I have no siblings associated with her.

I have an Aristile Gaspard, son of Joseph Napoleon Gaspard and Elizabeth Touchet, born 09 Nov 1880, Acadia Parish.

For Gaspards living in the Hayes area, I find the family of Albert Gaspard, Sr., born 1883, listed in my database. Of the four children listed, none show any of the names you mentioned.

I also checked for the last name of MONCIS and find none listed.

I will continue to look for additional clues and should I find anything, I will contact you.

Debra
Gaspard HELP!

Here is the information I have found. I found in the Lake Charles American Press newspaper the obit for my great great grandmother Mary GASPARD Moncis. It states she was a native of CALCASIEU parish, and had lived in HAYES, LA. most of her life. She was born about 1853 and dies 12/20/1950. She is said to be buried in Hayes, although I am not sure where.

Also in the obit is mentioned a brother Aristille Gaspard of Hayes and a sister Mrs. Adonis Schexneider (Eugenie Gaspard), of Sulpher, Louisiana.

I have yet been able to locate any real evidence of her parentage though. Does anyone have anything out there for me????? I am so stumped!

Otherwise, if I don't back up my research with doc. its just hearsay. (Not that I doubt the German ancestry.)
Don would have the actual copies of any documents he received from Germany. I glanced at the book quickly one day when I popped in and out of the library, but, like you, I don't recall any ancient documents being shown in the book. You know, come to think of it, I may have copied a few pages from that book. I will look and get back to.

Debra,

Yes I remember that. There was a reunion being planned and alot of activity with the Gaspard line. I did get a peep at that book in Crowley....but have not been back since to look at it further. I suppose I should do that. Seems like there is an address on the book to make an order as well. When I look at the research that was done, I did not see any actual documents from Germany. Do you have any of these?

Naomi

Naomi, quite a few years ago, you and I worked together on a database for a reunion to be orchestrated by Don Gaspard. He eventually wrote a book containing all his findings on Johann Heinrich Michel and descendants. While I do not have a copy of that book myself, I do know there is on in the Crowley library.

As for my database, I have not updated it for several years but at the time Don and I were gathering information, I believe I entered all information he supplied to me. If you need additional help, please feel free to contact me.

Debra

Also not shown on this census is the two daughters of Dorothee born out of wedlock.
_________________

1850 St. Landry Parish Census - pages seem to be renumbered. A baby by the name of Joseph Grange, age 7 months is also listed as living in the house.

Census further shows that neither Charles nor Dorotee could read or write. Charles lists his occupation as "Laborer."

Neighbors on one side were Aurelien and Eugenie Gaspard, newly weds. The other side, lived Isaac Hupcher (believed to be Abshire) married to Julie. Isaac is the son of Jean and Francoise Abshire.

Listed on the same page is Joseph Hanks, possibly the father of Charles' future son-in-law.

Other neighbors shown on the page is Cyprien Histre (Istre) and wife Louise.
______________

Genealogy.com

1860 St. Landry Parish, Opelousas

Gaspar, Charles
Age: 83
Gender: M
Race: W
Birthplace: LA
State: Louisiana
County: ST LANDRY
Locale: OPELOUSAS
Series: M653
Roll: 424
Part: 1
Page: 731

Family No. 165

Charles Gaspar, 83; Farmer; Real Estate Value, $300; Personal Estate Value, $40; born - Cantrelle Parish
Dorothee Dupuis, 67; born in Iberville Parish
Valer(?)
Ms Belle,

I pulled my Gaspard file out today to see what I have, honestly the Gaspard file usually gives me a headache. So many names so similar. I best keep them straight by their marriage. The best I see so far, the info. you seek is my line. Your Charles dit Picard was my Jean Louis brother. So hello cousin! The Gaspards are so numerous, well with each family having approx. 12 kids, no wonder.

I have a public tree on Ancestry called Alfie Joseph Gaspard Family Tree. You may want to check it out. See if there is something there that catches your eye.

I will in the mean time look at my paper file.

Naomi

I was happily typing you a message and my fingers lost my post. So sorry if I send this twice. Thank you for your response. This information you have is very simular to what I have. I would love to find someone who has actual Germany records. Do you? I will check my records to see if I have something concerning your line. I bounce back and forth between my Cajuns and Irish. And my Irish are stealing most of my time these days.

Thanks
Naomi

I have gathered some since, but never give up on finding something new, or if I overlooked something. Right now I am looking to find the marriage of Simon Gaspard and Marie Jeanne Luquet.

Thanks
