Nathaniel Griffes Gates married Susan E. Quackenbush and had children John A. and Hannah Gates. Nathaniel went by the name Griffes Gates until around 1840, at which time he was known as either Nathaniel G. or NGG. Gates.
Susan died in 1858 (Schenectady) and Nathaniel married Miss Harriet Parks. We don't know what happened to her, but by 1864, Nathaniel was living in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and married Harriet P. Sawyer.
Nathaniel's parents are Stephen & Johanna Gates. No maiden name. Johanna died in Schenectady, NY in 1850.
Does anyone have information on Nathaniel's parents? We think his mother was also known as Hannah (Lewis) Gates, but we cannot absolutely make the connection since we do not know her maiden name.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
