The name Galtrey occurs in and around the ancient Forest of Galtres near york, Yorkshire, England.

My grandmother was a Galtress and going back many generations the name was spelt Galtreys.

So your family could come from the same area.

I have a one-name study of the families using the name Galtress and some variants you can reach me directly using the links on the website of the Guild of One Name Studies.

The parents of Sam and Rivers Gaultney/Galtney were Willie Galtney and wife Mattie Watson of Tensas Parish, Louisiana. The census of 1920 also shows a sister Thelma and several other children. He also had sons Leonard and Jessie. He would also have two more daughters..Dorothy and Barbara. Both have lived in Portland Oregon for over 20 years now . These children were from Emma.

Emma died of cancer leaving Joe (London) with all these children to raise alone. He would soon be taken by a dark chocolate sweet named Minnie Macon. Minnie was dark as coal with the smoothest skin and a few gold teeth in her mouth.

Grandpa would unite, though never marry and father four sons and a daughter with Ms. Minnie Macon. The sons were Leonard (Andrew Sapp Jr) Lynn Davis, Steven Lavon Davis, Cedric Davis and James Davis. The daughter was Sha-ron(sister) Davis.

I found a note on the internet that says his birth name was London Gaultney. Had children Betty (Davis) Jackson; Joe Davis, Jr. and Claude L. Davis. His father was Willie Galtney and mother Mattie Watson. Willie was the son of Joseph Noland Galtney and Ella Marshall. Joseph was white and Ella was black. I have this lineage back to the original immigrant Thomas Gwaltney. I published a book on his descendents back in 1992 which was primarily the ones that settled in Georgia who descend from a Revolutionary War Soldier Jehu Gaultney. Jehu is believed to have had a brother Benjamin Galtney who was the ancestor of all the Mississippi Galtneys (most in MS spell in Galtney, most in Georgia spell Gaultney and other spellings include Gwaltney, Gortney) etc. We had a reunion today for the Georgia Gaultneys and next weekend there is one in Virginia that includes ALL of the descendents of the original Thomas Gwaltney who came to America from Wales in 1600s. Thank you for the update. I don't know exactly what Grandpa Joes birth name was, he didn't discuss it! I recall hanging out with him pouring cement and hearing his friends yelling to him as they drove past and it sounded as though they were calling him Ryan or even Rhine. I did hear the story about his mother sneaking him out of town?????

My gggrandmother Laura Angelene Wilson Allen, after the death of my gggrandfather james A Allen, it looks like , was married to a John Gaultney in Daviess County Indiana. I need to know if he passed away or if they were divorced ? And when and where one or the other happened. I find a marriage license for her about 4 or 5 years after John Gaultney for her and John blackman Loudermilk. She had 6 or 7 children who were Allens. Did she and John have family .Did he have children when she married him ? Did they live in Washington ?What did he do for a living ? Hope you can help. just for any other relitives that are in search edith was the one you cant remember and she married ray ogle and they had 3 kids richard ogle jesse ogle (my dad) and barbara ogle i know some about the blevins part also because ed blevins ironically lived behind me for a number of years and from what i was told or shown rather in a document was leff lee was married to bertha sullivan and she died in 1929 from a dog bite ..claude was a preacher?..haley died in 1985 ..who is your dad ..wiley also dead i have his ss# and place and date of death and birth cant wait to hear what else you have will be on top of things checking back and emailing my gram edith died in kannapolis also lung cancer in 1991 june 4 i believei dont live near you im in nj but would call you anyway would love to know about my family thanks for your time you dont know how long i have been searching jess

Hi, Leff Lee was my dads grand father. His wife was Bertha Day from Roaring Fork,Va. Noticed the"ogle" message board, yours too? My grand mothers sister made an Ogle and moved off to NJ.Found one page that the Gaultney side back to 1755. Leff and Bertha had a mess of young uns :-)). There was Claude, Sara, Wiley, Haley (my grand mother) Bessie,Ed and might be one or two I can't recall thier names including the one that married Ray Ogle. I'm the great-granddaughter of George and Molly. Their son, Ezra Floyd Gaultney, Sr., was my grandfather. Ezra Floyd Gaultney, Jr., my father. I was born in 1945 in Kennett, was raised mostly in Rector, Ark., and now live in Wilson, Ark.

I'm looking for any onformation on a Nancy Gautney listed on a 1850 census in Marion County, Georgia. (The name could be Gaultney and was spelled incorrectly by the census taker.)She is listed as 45 years of age, born in 1804, Head of Household with several children: Solomon age 18 born in 1831; Greenberry age 17 born in 1832; Nancy age 14 born in 1835; Archlla age 12 born in 1837; Mary age 10 born in 1839; Jasper age 7 born in 1842; and Bias age 3 born in 1846. Does anyone have information on this family and could shed light on who the father is? Any help would be appreciated.

my husband is Daniel K Greer, born banner elk, nc 7/02/1946 he was raised until 12 by grandparents, Robert "Lee" Greer and Flora "Snow" Gaultney Greer. Snow had two sisters Frost L who married Paul H Michael had daughter Barbara, sister Jett L married James M Shoemaker, their parents were Lee V or B and mother Leatha A. Thank you Kathy. The Darius Gautney in Marshall County, AL that you mention is my G-G-G-Grandfather. He had a grandson named Henry that went to TEXAS about 1890. Don't know about the one in Talapoosa County, AL.

Don't know if you have this information already but you can find a Darius Gaultney/Gautney on census from Alabama (Marshall Co.). I came across him trying to find a link to a Henry Gautney/Gaultney in Tallapoosa Co., Alabama.

While looking at your site : Descendants of John Gwaltney I found listed under 2. Source of Notes: Frank Gwaltney; that ROBERT GAULTNEY had 6 sons, HOWELL, JOHN, JOSHUA, GILLIAM, DARIUS and JOEL. Would like more information the above DARIUS. Under the Family Groups, DARIUS is not listed. Can you tell me why?

My grandmother came to Texas via NC. Her name
was Wilma Love Gaultney. Her sister was Gladys.
They both lived in West Texas until their
deaths. My mother says the family was orginally
from Wales...she thinks.
