Do you know if Johann Jacob Gaumer and his wife, Maria Catherine Sowash(or Mary Catherine Showash, as I have found in other places) also had a child named Mary Catherine Gaumer (Born in Bedford, PN) who married William Welker (Born in Howard Township, Knox County, OH)? I know that sometimes sisters married brothers a lot back then, so I was wondering because Mary and William supposedly had a son named Enoch Welker who married Elizabeth Weihel, who are my husband's great-great grandparents. Our last name is Welker as well.

Dear Bill:
So nice to hear from you. I did not know when Frecerick and Eva Maria Meinert came to America or the ship they came on. I suppose an arrival date of 1736 means that Maria Elisabetha was born before their arrival. I have no information on this line of the family and would be interested in anything that you know about them. Which of Maria Elisabetha and Johannas Dietrich Gaumer's children is your line? Mine is Johann Heinrich who married Anna Margaretha Meitzler. I have no information on the Meitzler line either. Do you need any information? If so perhaps I could help. Let me know. Hope to hear from you again.

Arlene

I am looking for the names of the parents of Mabel (Hontz) Vassallo. Mabel was the wife of Nicholas Vassallo. The CA death index give her birth date as 27 June 1889 in PA and a death date of 20 March 1986 in Santa Clara Co., CA. Also this index gives her mother's maiden name as Gaumer. The 1930 census of San Jose, CA shows that Nick & Mabel had a son, Frank, age 15. Please contact me at
(GRGauamer@aol.com) if you can help me.

I recently received my grandmother Daisy Dinsmore's (m. Melroy Close) death certificate. On the certificate her mother is listed as Lydia Gaumer and father as Franklin Dinsmore. However, in searching on the net it appears Franklin was married to Eliza Jane Gaumer April 7, 1876 in Coshocton, Oh. Eliza's parents appear to be Lyman Gaumer and Mary A. McClanahan. Any information on Franklin, Daisy or Melroy? Any help will be appreciated.

Bill,
Thanks for answering. The information that I have shows that Susanna Gaumer was born in 1789 in Londenderry Twsp, Somerset, Pa. and died in Sept. 1850 in Union Twsp, Knox, Ohio. It shows her parents to be Jacob Gaumer born 15 April 1756 and Catharina Sowash born 30 Dec. 1759.
It also shows that Susanna married Jacob Sturtz who was born in Southhampton Twsp, Bedford Pa and died in Adams Twsp, Muskingum.
Re: All Gaumers in US Pre-1900

I saw your offer of help researching the Gaumer name, and I could use some help. I am trying to research my family history, and I know that my great-great grandfather was Daniel P. Helfrich, who according to two sources I have seen was married to Christiana or Christina Gaumer. One source reads as follows...

"Daniel P. Helfrich married (first) Christiana Gaumer, daughter of Benjamin Gaumer, who lived at Lehigh Church. Issue: Edgar Henry Wellington and Vincent A."

I believe Lehigh Church is Macungie, PA. I also know that Daniel was born about 1853, so I would assume that Christiana would have been born within 10 years or so of that and that they would have married around 1875 or so. Unfortunately that's all I have to go on.

This is a branch I would very much like to know more about. For one thing, Christiana Gaumer's engagement ring is still in the family - it is passed down from mother to daughter (more or less) and now my niece has it.

Any information you may have on Christiana or her family would be appreciated. Thank you.
