Ms Rhonda Gokey:

My research for my Gauthier ancestors in America goes back to the Revolutonary War (family oral history) and the War of 1812. Those researches turned up different spellings that may have been caused by misunderstanding of French pronuciations not understood and recorded incorrectly. Examples: Gautier; Gotie; Gottie; Gotier; Goliete.

I am writing to you because you are in VT. There may be a
records in VT (somewhere) because I found that Jean Marie Gauthier married a woman from VT. We do not have her name, however.

If you find any interest in the above information, you
can email me at: flojoe1530@comcast.net

Sincerly, Robert J.
You should check out the Canadian Census and see if there are more children who could have had families. I think you should do your research through the Library and Archives Canada. It is a government site. Also, Vital Statistics of Manitoba and of Quebec could help you, if you need marriage, birth or death certificates.
Good Luck.

hi, I came across your message today while looking for other Gauthier individuals in Manitoba. I have a two books written about the parish of St-Pierre-Jolys,, MB and there is a listing in these books for this couple.

The first one was published in the mid 1970s, the first par of which is compormised of the writings of the parish's first priest. It gives the following information:
GAUTHIER, Horace - born in St-Bruno, QC; arrived in Manitoba in 1883; married in St-Pierre, MB in 1885 to Adeline Chouinard; left for Steinbach, MB in 1909; raised Henriette Chouinard, daughter of Emery (his wife was Delia Archambault). The listing for Adelina's father reads as follos: CHOUINARD, Joseph - married to Adeline Sene who died in 1897; rised Ida Chouinard, daughter of Emery. (Emery was the son of Jseph-Cyprien Chouinard & Adeline Senez.)

The second book was published in 2005 and contains more information, including several pictures of the individuals. The listing is as follows:

GAUTHEIR, Horace / CHOUINARD, Adelina - Horace, born in St-Bruno, QC (son of Francois-Xavier Gautheir & Aurelie Benard), arrived in St-Pierre, MB in 1883. Adelina, born in 1867 in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA, is the daughter of Joseph-Cyprien Chouinard and Adeline Senez. Their mariage took place in St-Pierre, MB on Feb 16, 1885.

Horace was the first blacksmith of the parish. In 1909 the Gauthier family left St-Pierre when Horace decided to prctice his blacksmith trade in Marchand, Vassar and South Junction, MB. Adelina's father went to live with them in Marchand. Adleina died at the age of 47, on Feb 26, 1914. She was a corpulant person and suffered from dropsy (abnormal accumulation of watery fluid in certain tissues or cavities of the body).

Their children were born in St-Pierre, MB.
1. Hermine-Dorilla (1890), married in St-Pierre, MB on Nov 10, 1908 to Luc Morin (son of Thomas Morin & Emerence Madore)

2. Aurilda (1899-1997), married to Frank Daigneault

3. Wilfrid (1905)

4. Another son (no name given) who died at the age of 5 and was buried in St-Malo, MB.

The listing for Adelina's father in this second book reads as follows:
CHOUINARD, Joseph-Cyprien / SENEZ, Adeline - Joseph, born August 16, 1832 in L'Islet, QC, is the son of Antoine-Barnabe Chouinard and Anastasie Labbe. Adeline, daughter of Joseph and Mrguerite Briere, was born in the province of Quebec around 1840. They wree married on June 9, 1856 in Ste-Pie-de-Bagot, QC. After their mariage they lived inthe parish of St-Damse in St-Hyacinthe, QG where their daughter Alphonsine was born. In pursuit of a better future, they left for the United States in search of work. They lived in Massachusetts before heading on to Nashua, New Hampshire. They arrived in St-Pierre, MB in 1878 aftr having been recruited by father David Fillion, the priest from Ste-Agathe, MB (note: father Fillion had been sent to the New England states with the task of encouraging French-Canadians from there to come settle in southern Manitoba and western Canada.) They arrived with two of their children, Adelina and Alexandre. Another child was born in St-Pierre, MB. Adeline died in St-Pierre, MB on May 5, 1897. Widowed, Joseph went to live with his son Arthur, then with Adelina & Horace Gauthier in Marchand, MB. Joseph died October 31, 1911 and was buried in LaBroquerie, MB.

Amongst the families establishing themselves in St-Pierre, MB in 1877, we find four of the eldest of their children.
1. Emery (Feb 24, 1857- ?) - 8 children
2. Alphonsine (March 5, 1859 - Dec 17, 1904) Married John Dean (born Jean-Antoine Deau) on Feb 1, 1875 in St-Louis-de-Ganzague parish, Nashuam NH - 9 children
3.Clarinda (1862 - ?) Married Francois-Xavier Belleau in St-Pierre, MB on May 17, 1881. Left for the Klondike in 1897. one daughter is mentioned.
4. Athur (Oct 16, 1864 - Jan 31, 1924) Married in Terrebonne, QC on Feb 16, 1885 to Adeline Gratton - 3 children. After Adeline's death he remarried: on Jan 31, 1894 in Immaculee-Conception parish in Winnipeg, MB to Celina Lemire - 15 children.
5. Adelina (see above)
6. Alexandre (Jan 27, 1876 - June 3, 1959); Married on Nov 13, 1895 in St-Joseph, MB to Alida Grandmont - 5 children; After Alida's death, he remarried to Fina Rousseau with whomhe had a son.
7. Philippe (often noted as Felix) (Sept 8, 1879 - April 12, 1950) Married in Ste-Agathe, MB on Feb 26, 1900 to Marie-Anne Pelland - 12 children

Note: with regards to Joseph-Cypriem Chouinard's children, I only posted brief info on here although more detailed info exists inthe second parish book)

I hope this helps

Marcel

Am looking for info on the following couple and their descendants: Joseph Octave Gauthier & Marie Augustine Gaffray.

This is the info I have so far:

Joseph Octave Gautheir was born Aug 27, 1889 in St-Norbert, MB to Pierre Gauthier & Victoria Lizotte. Octave, single, is listed as living with his family in Ste-Agathe,MB in the 1911 Canadian census.

Octave married on July 28, 1919 in St-Boniface, MB to Marie Augustine Gaffray.

Marie Augustine Gaffray was born Feb 18, 1897 in St-Pierre, MB to Guillaume Gaffray & (Marie Elise) Cecile Vinet. Augustine died in 1969 but I don't know where.

I believe that the couple may have settled in the Ste-Agthe, MB area after their marriage.

Any additional info would be much appreciated. Thanks

Marcel

After you showed how useful the yourfolks.com info is, I signed up for the 100 coupons for under $20. Basically 1 coupon per search. This is very reasonable. I didn't want to sign up for the ancestry.com annual subscription of 30$ per month. I don't like the prospect of trying to cancel an ongoing subscription. Pay per use is much more convenient. So, I hope that ancestry.com will take this as a hint that they need to implement this sort of pay as you go system.

I successfully used yourfolks.com to link my Gauthier paternal line back to Jean Gauthier who came from France in early 1600s. It is very satisfying to find that your family farmed in the feudal system along the St. Lawrence for 250 years.

After inputting the information into MyHeritage tree, the program pointed me to other family trees with identical people - allowing me to fill in birth/death dates and information about distant cousins.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

This is what I found out:
Joseph Gauthier - Victoria Titmarsh
Thaddee Gauthier - Eva Houde
Didier Gauthier - Ida Boivin
Damase Gauthier - Luce Perron
Denis Gauthier - Charlotte Tremblay
Louis Janvier Gauthier - Marie Procule Bouchard
Joseph Gonthier - Marie-Victoire Tremblay
Louis Gonthier - Genevieve Gagne
Bernard Gonthier - Marguerite Pasquier
Jean Gonthier (1618-?) - Marie Lay (1619-?)

Basically all lived near Les Emboulements, PQ.

Yes, I have access to the Drouin collection. He was the first son of the family and was given the same name than his father: Francois-Xavier. His baptism is found on folio 14 of the 1858 parish record. He appears in the 1861 and 1871 census under the name of Francois-Xavier and Xavier respectively and was living with his family. No traces of him beyond that point. There is a possibility that he moved to the US or he died before the 1881 census but I can't find any traces of his death nor any mariage in Drouin.

An other possibility is that Francois-Xavier and Hormidas Gauthier is the same person and this based on the fact that Hormidas's babtism cannot not be found. He was born around 1859 based on census record 1881, 1891 and his deadth record AND he is not listed in the 1861 and 1871 census.

Okay, I've done a bit more digging.
I looked at 1911 Census and found:
Gauthier Thaddie Head Jun 1881
Gauthier Eva Wife Mar 1884
Gauthier Jeanne Daughter Jun 1904
Gauthier Ernestine Daughter Jan 1906
Gauthier Joseph Son Jan 1910
Gauthier Elise Daughter Feb 1911

But I'm not feeling 100% certain about "Thaddie"-Theodore's parents. I looked in 1901 census and found:
Gauthier Charles Head Feb 27 1851
Gauthier Adelle Wife Apr 2 1855
Gauthier Odilas Son Jul 17 1876
Gauthier Alexina DaughterApr 11 1879
Gauthier Théodore Son Jun 30 1881
Gauthier Ferdina Son Jan 27 1883
Gauthier La???a DaughterMay 19 1883
Gauthier Rozana DaughterNov 10 1884
Gauthier Clefodine ? DaughterJul 26 1886
Gauthier Trefflé Son Dec 24 1888
Gauthier Arthurs Son May 21 1892

This Theodore seems to have the correct birthday to be a match. Can anyone help me verify this? I feel uncertain because Thaddie's family lives in Montreal while Theodore's family lived in Wright, QC.

Next, I found someone else has a family tree where this Charles is the son of Andre Jr and grandson of Andre Sr.
When I look at the 1852 census, I find this:
Gauthier, Andre Rentier 71 M
Belangé, Marie 70 F
Gauthier, André fils Cultivateur 37 M
Robert, Sophie 36 F
Gauthier, Joseph 11 M
Gauthier, André 12 M
Gauthier, Marguerite 2 F

Charles isn't mentioned, I assume because he wasn't born yet. Can anyone help me verify this link? I don't have access to the expensive Drouin collection offered through Ancestry.ca.

If these links are verified, it means that this referenced family tree with Andre Gauthier traces my heritage back to early 1600's.

I'm looking for information on my great-great grandparents, Theodore Gauthier and Evelyn Gauthier (Houde).

They had a son, Joseph Theodore Gauthier (1910-1941), married on (Nov 10 1934) to Victorie Titmarsh (Nov 3 1909 - Mar 29 1973). This couple lived near Mount Royal until Joseph's death.

There are many Gauthiers, but I cannot find these ones. I'd like to know the Gauthier/Houde dates, their parents, siblings & children. I'd like to know what line of Gauthier they link up to - because I've hit the wall.

It is my experience that the surname GAUTHIER [aka: Gautier;Gokey;Goke;Goka; and more] is a rather difficult name(s) to trace back into history. The following may help? Briefly, the name Pierre Gautier dit Saguingoira may connect for you. He was born in 1629, son of Jacques and Marie Boucher, of the small village of Eschillais, in Saintonge, Canada, died in Lachine, Canada on 5 December 1703, buried on the 6th, 74 years old.

I am a decendent of Pierre Gautier, a very first settler of Lachine, Canada. The Peter/Pierre Gauthier you are looking for may be of the same historical family? Bob
