1837 about James GAZE

Hi,

I just posted an old newspaper article reporting that James GAZE, "a respectable merchant of New York," had won a footrace on the "Eclipse" course in New Orleans, Louisiana for a wager of $500. It speculates that he will undertake to race at Bayou Sara for $10,000.
This was scanned from an original issue (NOT microfilm!) of the Newark Daily Advertiser newspaper (Newark, NJ) dated April 22, 1837, and you can see it online here:

http://theoldentimes.com/jamesgaze04221837ny-la.html
I hope it's helpful!

Barbara
http://theoldentimes.com/old_news_ny.html
http://theoldentimes.com/old_news_la.html
http://theoldentimes.com

I do have a Marker Gaze (from Dilham) in my family tree though not a direct relative. He however was born in 1752. It looks like he may have had sons called Michiah and Marker but unfortunately, I don't have anything else. If I come across any more information, I'll let you know.

I am trying to trace an Alfred Nockels (Nockolds), he married my gt. grandmother, they had a daughter Sarah, the gt. grandmother died of Typhus fever. (they married in 1843, baby born 1843, mother died 1844 - Dilham) he then married again to an Elizabeth Sadd in 1846 but she too died in 1847. In 1841, my gt.grandmother had a son at Smallburgh by a ? Gaze, possibly Christopher. I just wondered if you might have something in your info. that would probably tie in., Julie. My gt.grandmother was nursed by the Ann Gaze, married to George and mother of Marker.
