Mary Mytinger. of course you found this I'm sure. Neff seems like a surname mentioned as well. Will have to go back and look some. You probably already have Hartslog Heritage. I think my line would be Zachariah's sister Elizabeth and John Brown, but I haven't found all the links yet, pretty close though. Cresswell, Mytinger, and Gemmill are all in Hartslog Heritage. ---- C.T.
Hi Judy,

Thanks for answering my post. I was thinking that I'd never hear from anyone. I'd love to talk to you. Could you find my family tree by putting Williams info in search , then family trees? Mine will come up then click on it or on my name and send me a message there with your email or phone number. Since I have not done this message board thing before I don't know if we can leave email or phone number. If this is secure of not :) Please put GEMMILL GEMMILL in the subject line in CAPS ok? What time zone are you in if I can call you I don't want to call at the wrong time.

I didn't know that Williams wife was Jean. I have Margaret in a family history book. Maybe her name is Margaret Jean or the other way around.

Have you been able to go back further than William and Jean?

Ok gotta go. I am excited though. I love family history work. Take care, Janet
I have an ancestor named William Gemmill. He was married to Jean Wilson and came to America from Paisley Scotland in either 1843 or 1846. Jean died at sea enroute and was buried at sea. They had 8 children: Robert, Alex, William, John, Walter, Matthew (my great great-grandfather born May 7, 1819), and 2 daughters. I also have the names of their children if you want them.
Hope this helps,
Judy

If you are located in Scotland there are good historical centers, one in Irvine. Otherwise, look at census records. I know that the Dunlop Gemmills are supposed to be the oldest family and the Fenwick branched from then but our family records burned in the 1800's at a fire at Templehouse in Dunlop and I only have back to 1474. Some of the children from those families may be connected as well to yours, but our family historian is elderly now and in a nursing home. Wish I could help more.
Deane GeMMell

Ann Gemmill and George Bremner have a son George Albert who married Emily Jane Dufferin Elgar and I need to focus on putting together their information before I add all this new information that is available. Both are buried in Wroxeter, Ontario.
Hi again,

Sorry, you DID tell me how you are related. Your grandpa is a Gemmill.
I saw his name last night, or actually in the wee hours of this morning as I was working..I think it was on a site, www.findagrave.com Have you been on that site before?
It mentioned two people by that name.

If not, you can find the page that is 'Begin New Search' and just put Gemmill in the last name field and it will bring up all the Gemmills from all over that are in the Findagrave database. Then just click over to the W's. It will take a little while. They show about 20 or 30 per page, and there are over 500 Gemmills.
See ya, Janet

Hi Kathy, I didn't expect to hear back from you so soon either. But I love it then I get quick relpies. I am online working on the Gemmill line and others almost every day. I am quite addicted to this family history stuff.

I have a copy of that book too. I bought it online for about $7 then later found the entire text online for free..shoot!
I am having trouble finding the connection to those Gemmills, though at some point they all come from the same people.

Hmmm, about me..ok I am so into genealogy that I am up all night sometimes. My Gemmill connection is that my dad's mothers, mother (who would be my great grandmother) is a Gemmill. Jessie I Gemmill whose parents are Duncan and Margaret (Neil) Gemmill. Duncans parents are William and Jessie (McNab) Gemmill. From Scotland of course, then went to Canada and ended up in Iowa.

How are you connected to the Gemmills? Tell me about you?
It would be great to get a copy of the letter. I can't wait!
Gotta run though..take care :) Janet
Didn't expect to see response this quick. Have put your
email address in my book. Will try to copy the letter to
email address. The book covers 6 generations, written by
Wm Nelson Gemmill. Have two copies and would share it gladly. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself. Also
stay in touch in a Gemmill in Pa. We know that some where
down the line we are cousins just can't make a direct connection. Could be spelling or missing date. Hope to hear soon.
Kathy

Scan them if they are not already on your computer? I'd love to check them out.
My trouble, if I didn't mention it before is that the Gemmills, out of respect for their ancestors have all been given the same names for decades, there are lots of Williams, Thomases and Johns...it is hard to find which one is mine. lol
Please if you'd like send your information to me at this email: jlwhetton22@yahoo.com, I'd love you check it out.
Hi Lisa, I hope you are still working on the Gemmill line. I saw your messege board post and that it was dated 2006, a few years ago..

Duncan Gemmill b. 1844 is my great great grandfather. I would like to know what info you have on the family from Iowa, Canada and back to Scotland.

I am trying next to find the parents of William Gemmill
b. 1790. There seems to be a problem with most of the information I have found on Ancestry.

Please reply as soon as you can as I am REALLY addicted to this family history stuff.
Tera,
Hopefully you will find the information on Edward Gemmill.
I did get several feed backs about my grandfather, Worthy D
Gemmill. Missing information from Pa, can jump over to
Scotland for the family. Gemmill is not as common as Smith or Brown and we could have a common family member. Stay
with your research it is well worth it.
Kathy

Looking for Info on John Edward Gemmill of Pennsylvania

I am looking for info on my great-great-grandfather, whom I know only from family stories.

His son was Edward William Gemmill born 24 October 1845. His wife (name unknown) died in childbirth with Edward, and John then left the family. John was a banker in Pennsylvania. John's daughter (name unknown) then raised Edward.

Edward moved to Missouri as an adult. Family lore says that John left money to Edward in his will with the proviso that he could only inherit if a doctor swore that Edward was not drinking. Because Edward refused to quit drinking, he never inherited, and he stopped speaking to any of his siblings because he felt that they had cheated him out of his inheritance.

Any information would be of great help to me. Thank you, in advance, for your time!

Tera

Geoffrey,
I'm 8 years late and you already found your info I see from other internet posts. Allen Brown is from the Gemmill line, son of Elizabeth Gemmill and John Brown (veteran of the Battle of Brandywine w/ his Dad, John Brown Sr.). I write since I still am looking for the link for my Great Great Grandfather Rev. John Allen Brown. 1822-1892. I'm still thinking your Allen Brown b 1790 had a brother John Brown abt 1788 who would be the link to the Gemmill line for my family.

My GGGrandfather named one son Haddington Gemmill Brown. The Haddington refering to Scottland and maybe the Theologian John Brown of Haddington. The Gemmills and Browns seem to be linked throughout Scott/Irish history.

My line is William Ira Brown.

For any who may wonder. I actually went to Scotland in October of 2008 and was fortunate to link up with a cousin, Catherine Wilson, who was friends with another cousin William Campbell of Edinburgh who is the original Templehouse Gemmill researcher. He has been researching since he was 14 years old and is about to turn 80. He found a lost generation and corrected his previous work. He does his research the hard way, in the actual halls of records and places of origin. Gemmill became Gemmell and for those wanting to trace this family from Dunlop and have a most likely correct tree please see GeMMell Family Tree. I have recorded this branch of the family back to 1474.

Who were Jane and Daisy Gemmill who had their photograph taken on the Isle of Wight in January 1900? Their photo was found in the papers of the family of William Nelson Gemmell (1907-1966) of Whitefish (Sudbury) Ontario, Canada but no known connection between his family and Jane and Daisy Gemmill is known. Can anyone help to identify them?
Tina

Re: William Gemmill, B: abt 1702, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland

I have the following: William Gemmell born Irvine Ayrshire 1702 parent John Gemmell and Janet Crooks.
Margaret Scot parents James Scot and Magdaline Rankin.
His son James was recorded as Gamel. Sometimes it makes the lines hard to follow. I believe they were both mariners "Ship's masters" according to the records I have managed to find. They could also have been Captains.
Hope this helps some.
Rita
