Grace Amelia Geoffrey is my maternal grandmother, and my mother aged 91 is the last of her children.
I have been researching this family for many years now, and would be happy to speak to you about George Geoffrey.
It is an odd co-incidence your writing at this time as only last week I drafted a letter to an adoption agency regarding George.

My name is Robert Spence and I am enquiring about George Geoffrey Born 1913 Carlton/VIC Mother Grace Amelia Geoffrey and unknown father. my wife's father was George Banfield born 1913 Carlton the Banfield being his adopted family. George now deceased never new who his birth parents were and as his wife and son are also deceased the remaining family are trying to find their real family name. In the hope you can help with any of Grace's children (I have 7 and 2 born with Charles David Williams).

Hello Francis,
From my records I believe we are second cousins. I visited your parents some years ago and they gave me some information on your branch of the family.
I have done considerable research on this family but can only get back to our gggrandfather Francis Joseph GEOFFREY snr and his wife Mary (Unknown). Their son Francis Joseph GEOFFREY jnr. married a Sarah ORCHARD and several years ago I made contact with a branch of her family.

Mary Yes Francis Joseph and Sara Louisa are my GGGrandparents.I believe Francis and Sara had a son Albert,Alberts son Albert Francis was my Grandfather. Kind Regards Francis.

Yes Francis Joseph GEOFFREY and Sarah Louisa GEOFFREY (nee ORCHARD) arrived on the Harriet in 1853 and are my gggrandparents. Do you have a connection to Francis?

I am also looking for a John Geoffrey. I have John Hardman Geoffrey born abt 1851 Manchester England. JH was the son of a John Geoffrey but I have no further information on the father. I have been told that these Geoffrey's have a connection to Cotton Mills in Manchester. ( I beleive through a marriage into the cotton family)

I have John Hardman Geoffrey born Manchester England abt 1851 son of John Geoffrey. My John spent time in India in the army before comming to Australia sometime shortly before 1882. Family stories say that John was given the choice between Australia and America by his Grandparents, we beleive this was because there were relatives in both these countries. Any connection???

Hello June,
From my research I have established that there were TWO separate GEOFFREY families that came to Australia. I have established that mine first landed in NSW and then came to Victoria - They were Francis Joseph GEOFFREY and Sarah Louisa ORCHARD. He was from Middlesex and she was from Wiltshire. I have a copy of the shipping record for their passage here.
Over a period of time I have found more GEOFFREY'S living in NSW. I have not been able to find when they arrived but have found as many family members as I could and believe there is a John GEOFFREY. However this may mean that he is related to the family already established in NSW.
My grandmother was Grace GEOFFREY in Victoria and I found another Grace GEOFFREY in NSW which I thought was too much of a co-incidence for the families not to be related.
Interestingly my grandmother never made any mention of relatives in NSW and she was a very social person, always out visiting friends and relations, even interstate.
I will try and find the file I have on this family.

I am related via my mother. Her mother was Grace Amelia
GEOFFREY, her parents Albert Francis GEOFFREY and Amelia
HUMPHREYS, his parents Francis Joseph GEOFFREY and Sarah Louise ORCHARD. I believe she was born on 21st June 1826 and christened on 14th July 1826, with siblings Ann, Jane, Emily,William, Joseph. I have proof of their immigration to Australia.The line is not a big one, but I do have some photos of the family.

John and Sarah Orchard

My ancestor John Orchard, lived in Warminster in 1824, when he married Sarah Carter. Their son William b. 1832 settled in Manchester, where I was born. Other children include Ann, Sarah Louise [b.1826- could she be the one who married Francis Geoffrey?],Jane, Emily, Charles, Joseph and 5 others. John's father was William Orchard with links to a nearby village of Norton Bavant. John was a tailor at the time of William's wedding.
There are a few of us Orchards [my maiden name]around in the UK.
Any Connection?
