Hi David,
My name is Lee Georg, My Great, Great ,Great Grandfather was
John (Johan) G. Georg. I was doing some research and found a ships manifest from June 8th, 1847. the ship was the Austerlitz out of Le Havre, France and arrived in New Orleans, LA. The year of arrival closely matches the year of immigration on the 1900 census, also the name Louisa matches the name of his first wife.

Lee Georg

Hi Wendy, I've read some of your other posts and it appears that we are second cousins. My father Elden is a cousin of your Dads.
I have some information going back to John Georg, both of ours great great great grandfather who came over from Bavaria from censuses and his wife Catherine or Katrina who came from Hesse. I'm not sure what he went by because in some records it says Johan or Johann. According to other people it says Johann on his grave stone, but I haven't checked this out yet. He shows up in the 1850,1870, & 1880 censuses. The surname is spelled differently in each, but I know they are all him because the names of his children and their ages are all the same. The surnames are written as George(1850 census), Garrick(1870 census), and Georich(1880 census). The names are different most likely because the census workers wrote the names and tried to write the name the way it was pronouced and didn't always do a good job of it. My father says Garrick is close to how the name use to be pronounced according to his father. In all of the censuses his first name is written as John.
I also have information on our great grandfather George Georg including dates and land records of the Georg farm as well as a little information about his father Phillip Georg, son of John Georg. I hope soon to get the land records of Phillip Georg's farm now owned by a non-Georg.
It has been awhile since you have posted, but I hope you respond, I think I can answer some of your questions.
David Georg

Hi, I'm David from the previous thread. I'm a decendent of Catherine Georg and her husband, John/Johan/Johann Georg not the other Georg Georg brother.
I was just wondering why it says Catherine on the 1900 census, but Kathrina on her grave stone. I know these are the same people because the census shows she was living in the house of her daughter Caroline and her son in law Henry Kolb, most likely because her husband had died in 1894. Do you know which name she actually went by?
Also, what infromation do you have about when Johann came over to America and do you know if he had a farm near accident. I found a Johan Georg on a passenger list of a ship called Formosa that came into New York in 1837 from France and he was listed as 21 from Baden. Could this be the Johann Georg you are talking about even though it says he is from Baden not Bavaria. I know I am a descendent of Catherine Georg through looking at censuses, but the only information I can find about her husband is from these board posts or other peoples family trees they made. The only factual information that I can find that shows he existed is the passenger list(if that is him) and his grave stone. Where could I find any infromation about Johann Georg including information on where he lived? His son, my great great grand father, Phillip Georg had a farm in Accident, could this have possibly been Johann's farm befoe it was Phillips?
David Georg

Phillip Georg, my great great grandfather was the brother of John Edward Georg, but some of the family trees people made on ancestory.com say John Phillip Georg. I'm not sure if this was wrong or if Phillip was his middle name. He went by Phillip though because that is the name on his grave and on papers that have his signature. I can get information up to Phillip Georg through land records because I know where his farm but I don't know anything about John Georg in terms of where he lived, did he have a farm, and what records of him exist. Do you have any more infromation about him or his brothers that came from Germany? Are you sure they came from Bayern(Bavaria) because I found a ship passenger list that came into New York in 1837 with a Johan Georg(this is the exact spelling of the name on the passenger list), age 21,but it said he was from Baden. This could easily be wrong though because it wasn't him that wrote it and he may have just been group with Germans from Baden. Also he was traveling alone not with brothers or at least not with any other Georgs. I just figured it was him because the date of when he came was the same and the age was close. The ship came from Le Havre, France and landed in New York and the name of it was Formosa if you wanted to check it out. If this isn't him please share any information you have about him or how you know he came from Bayern.
I am not researching the Georg family, but I thought this might be of use to someone. It appeared in the "100 Years Ago Today" clumn in the North Vernon (IN) Plain Dealer on 11-14-06.

Benjamin Alden Georg, born in Gallia county, Ohio, November 29, 1827, emigrated to Jennings county, Ind., 1848, where he married Julia Waldorff. To this union were born three children, Wm. George, of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Jane Eveleth, of North Vernon, Ind., and John A. George, of Franklin, Neb. On May 4, 1887, his wife died; later he was married to Mrs. Emma McNicholis, of Scipio, who survives him. In 1862 he enlisted in the 82nd Ind. Volunteer Infantry and was severely wounded by gun shot on Washington Ridge. After receiving his discharge in 1864 he lived on the farm where he died Oct. 14, 1906.

I have a Johan Philip Georg with a son also named Johan Philip George. The elder was born in 1766, in Northampton County, PA. His son was born in Northampton County, PA, in 1800. I don't have the names of their wives. The elder's father was named Heinrich George, born in 1734, in Breitenbach, near Herborn, Hessen-Nassua, Prussia, Germany. His father was Jost Heinrich, born in 1707 in Breitenbach.

hello, i dont have as much information on great grandfather as you do. My great grandfatehr names was william george also. he probably would have been born around the samtime as yours. But my grandfather's last name was george. A long time ago they use to mispell last names alot I wonder if that was the case. my grandfather as far as I know was born in cincinnati, ohio. thats where I'm from. My grandmother and father never metioned anything about my great grandfather before. I thought your post was interesting to me because of the location(cincinnati) that your grandfather is from. My grandfather Floyd Gerorge is the son of william george. They are both from cincinnati.

I think all their children are different from my documented kids. Can you check my Rootsweb family file on line and see? You can do a name search Johann Philip Georg and check the file.

Thanks
Dee Dee
