My maiden name is Gers, and my family is from Lewistown, Mifflin County, PA. I do not know if there is any relation. My grandfather had several siblings, but I do not know their names. I know that there was some family in NY as well.

Best of luck in your search

Thank-You for your reply. I know my gggrandfather was from Germany and I know the name was GERSTE. My grandfather and his sibblings shortened the name to Gers. I do not know why. They all settled in INDIANA and ILLINOIS. My greatgrandfather went by the name of RICHARD GERSTE but he also shortened it to Gers. Your GERS family sounds interesting. Good luck on your search. I have had great fun with this but I am going to take a rest for a while as it can be all consuming sometimes. Thanks again . Pat Gerste-Gers- Carey- Eichstaedt

I have GERS in my family tree. Unfortunately the family went from Germany to South Africa where a fair contingent of GERS live. I believe this GERS name was shortened from the name GERSON. I have also been in contact with a GERS in the US. Her family also originated in Germany. Her e-mail address was: debgers@att.net
in 2002. I have not been in contact with her since then.
