JOHN GIBSON
With the death of John GIBSON, which occurred at the family residence in Slipperyrock township at 2:30 o'clock Thursday morning, six years of long sufferings are ended and a good man has gone from earth.
He had lain near at death's door for two or three weeks prior to the final collapse, and the summons to the immediate life where pain is unknown, was a welcome release to one, who had lain so long. He was 74 years of age, and resided on the farm where he died, nearly all his life. He was twice married. His first wife Miss Hannah McConnell, deceased. Of this union four children are left. They are: Wilbert, of Cripple Creek, Colorado; Frank, of Princeton; Riley, who resides at home, and Adda, wife of C. B. Cameron, of Edenburg [PA]. His second wife was Mrs. Mary McConnell, who survives him. He also has one brother and one sister, William GIBSON and Mrs. Mary Rogers, of Detroit. He was a member of the Hermon Presbyterian Church for many years. He was a man whom to know was to respect; genial and good natured in all his dealings with his fellow men: upright and honest in all his transactions. The example of his life was a power for good and won for himself enduring friendship.
NOTE: John GIBSON m Hannah McConnell Nov. 9, 1854 in Lawrence Co. She was the daughter of John and Adalaid Moore McConnell of Lawrence Co. PA. John's second wife was Mary Ann (English) McConnell, widow of Benoni McConnell. Mary Ann grew up in Portersville, Butler Co. PA. His daughter, Ada, was named "Adalaid" most likely after Hannah's mother.
