Re: Neil GILCHRIST(Abt 1778 of Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland) & Mary MCCULLOM ancestors and descendants

I have more info' on this family since this post and some clues but still don't know exactly when & where Neill Gilchrist & Mary McCallum were born or when and where they died. I suspect the two children John & Alicia also died as we only have mention of the son Neill being raised by a friend of his father's in Campbeltown? It is possible that this man was John Goudie as Neill was a servant of his when his dau. Mary was b. in 1848 in Maybole, Ayrshire and then their next dau. was named Janet Niven Goudie in 1850 in Maybole-Neil was a footman at this time. It turns out that John Goudie was b. in Jamaica in 1778-the same year it is guessed that Neill the father was b. I'm wondering if Neill & Mary were b. and perhaps died in Jamaica as he was a merchant? But I have yet to find them ANYWHERE for either birth or death? Can anyone help me?

as of 18 Apr 2012, I'm still at this point-HELP!

Hello,

i'm looking for any information about a George Gilchrist who married an Elizabeth Ross. I do not know where or when they married but they appear to have had at least 1 child, a daughter, born in Edinburgh around 1814 called Jessie - my g,g,g, grandmother. They might also have had a son called George who was born in Dunkeld Perthshire around 1800, although i am unsure of this fact.

thanks
Hi! I hope someone can help me!

I am trying to find someone who might have information on my Effee Jane Gilchrist. She shows up in 1870 in Tunica, Mississippi living with my 3rd great-grandfather, Spencer DeMumbrie. She was 19 years old at the time and the census says she was born in Tennessee. I then have a marriage record for her and Spencer in 1871 in Tunica, Mississippi. After that I cannot find any record of them at all. And I have no other information about her except for those two records. Does anyone out there know anything about her?

I think i am a direct reative of Dr John Borthwick Gilchrist. Henrietta married James Wilson, their son William Syme Wilson, a teacher of music, married (1)Mary Knox in Edinburgh then moved to London, they had 3 children Rosalind, Borthwick and Gilchrist. William remarried and had further children. Gilchrist is my great grandfather. His youngest son Henry is my grandfather, he married Fanny Plato, my mother, Vera Lilian, is the middle of their 5 children, she is still alive aged 89.
Hope I'm right, look forward to hearing from you
Thanks

Would be grateful for any leads on a Joan Beverly Gilchrist, born early 1927 (probably in Montreal, Quebec), daughter of Wilfred John Gilchrist (1903-1945) and Ethel Fraser (1905-2004), who had a brother named Russell James Gilchrist. Joan Gilchrist married Larry J. Miller on 16 April 1966 in New York, New York ... and we can't find a trace of her from that point on.
She's the "first cousin once removed" of the "home person" on our tree (her grandmother was my father's aunt).
Yep -- sometimes the simplest method turns up what you want!

I subscribe to several newspaper archive sites, but I can't name them because ancestry.com does not want to seem as if they are endorsing subscription sites.

There are other free sites that I use, too, such as www.deathindexes.com and www.obitlinkspage.com.

Check with your local library.
Sorry, we haven't found one yet, which has struck us as odd because we easily found records relating to her brother. The birthdate is approximate because we're going by my father's recollection. The marriage date is precise because we actually have one of the wedding invitations.
Lots of detective work involved in this!

Hello again ...
Thanks for your offer to help. I hope you can also share tips on where you look for obits because we have a few other family members for whom we only have SSDI info.

Here goes:
Name: Russell J. Gilchrist
SSN: 111-34-4032
Last Residence: 18960 Sellersville, Bucks, Pennsylvania, United States of America
Born: 27 Jan 1940
Died: 5 Jul 2000
State (Year) SSN issued: New York (1960-1961)

By the way, one line in my first post may have been misleading. The "home person" on our tree is my father; Joan Gilchrist is ~his~ first cousin once removed. I guess that would make her my second cousin (at least according to Ancestry.ca).

Thanks again ...

Re: Gilchrist's in North Dakota

I am a great-granddaughter of William John Gilchrist, born July 1, 1868 in Ontario, son of John Gilchrist (who had emigrated from Scotland) and Hannah. William migrated to Dakota territory and married Frances Lesman in 1888. Their children were: John W. (1888), Julia (1889), William Jr. (1891), Clara (1892), Cora May (1895), Gertrude (1896), Thomas F. (1899), Andrew Lesman (1902), Robert A. (1905), Laura M. and Lillian (twins 1908), and H. Earl (1910). Nine of the children survived to adulthood. Clara was my grandmother; she married Ernest Reynard and moved to Colorado. Julia's married name was Bolyard, Gertrude's was Worms, and Lillian's was Arion. I have no record of Richard, Winifred or Mary Ann! I have a typewritten biography of William Gilchrist incorporating these details (and much else) which I would be happy to share.

I only have a picture of Kim with her husband Russell. John, i never met (something happened when he was born and my parents were not able to take care of him), so I am on a scavenger hunt for everyone. I can scan and email pictures to you if you would like. I will have to ask my mom when they were married. I know it was before my brother was born (1985). I don't know if you knew how he died, but its was complications from Emphysema.

Name: Robert W. Gilchrist
Birth: 18 May 1943
Death: 5 May 1995 - Montgomery, Montgomery, Alabama, United States of America
Civil: Florida

This would be your dad, then? How did he die? You were only 6 so you might not remember too much. Did he have any pictures of Bobby, Bert or Kim from when they were babies? do you have pictures of you and your brother, John? Do you have the date that your mom and dad were married? so many question to ask... you are probably full of questions re: your family also... Kim has 3 children: 2 are in their 20s and the youngest is only 4, i think. there names are cynthia, russell, and Diamond. Bert has one daughter: Alexis who i think is like 17 now. Bobby has 2 boys: Zach 9, and Austin, 4. Karen,Bobby's mom, had 2 more children P-Nut and Levy, both w/different fathers. She moved from LV and moved back to Alabama, where she died about the same time your dad did... I'm so excited... perhaps we'll be able to find missing pieces for the kids out here and you'll be able to find missing pieces for you and your brother!!

He passed away when i was 6 so I never learned anything about my older siblings. My dad has a sister name Shirley Terrell that stays in Deatsville, Al and I know he has other siblings but I don't know exactly where and who they are.If this confirms anything please let me know so we may continue to put these pieces together.

Hi Emily,
I don't know if I can be of any help or not - but I sure hope so. My husband's oldest sister, Karen Weible, married Robert wainwright Gilchrist and they had 3 children together: Kim, Bert & Bobby. They were divorced when the children were very young. We adopted Bobby (Robert) and his 40th birthday is coming up and I want to do a book for him... a memory book. Could you possibly be a half sister of my son? can we compare notes? I've very little info on the father of the 3 kids and Karen passed away 10 years ago. Please contact me -- I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!
sincerely, Becky Weible
