Hello I'm looking for information on Mary Gildea abt 1898 married to Arthur Garant 1894 settled in Fall River Massachusetts. From England I think her parents were from Ireland. She might have had siblings Patrick, Richard, James. Possible parent were Patrick and Elizabeth. Her son is my Grandfather. Any help would be appreciated. Would love any family photo's.

My Grandfather was John Gildea born in Ardara 1882. His parents were John Gildea (1841) from Ardara and Susan Maguire (1846) from Glenconwell. I suspect Susan and Mary were sisters. Siblings of my granfather were Patrick, Con, James and Bridget. Sponsors at John and Susan's wedding were Patrick Gildea and Patrick Gildea.

What a disappointment!!

My Mary Ann Gildea was born in the Araluen/Braidwood area of NSW Australia. She spent her married life as the wife of Maskelyne Welsh around Cobargo also NSW Australia. May Ann was my great grandmother.
Looks like we have 2 different people.

My Mary Ann was the grand daughter of James Gildea, b. about 1815 in Co. Donegal and Mary McNulty. Mary Ann's father was Robert Gildea, b. Sydney about 1838 and Jane Harris from Co. Kildare.

Let me know if these are familiar to you.

Regards

Jenny
Hi Alan,
It's marvellous to hear from a descendant!
My cousin and I have just returned from a trip to the South Coast and spent some time at the Cobargo Cemetery checking out relations and saw the modernised headstone for Mary Ann and Maskelyne Alcock Welsh.
I would love to correspond and exchange information - I have also just recently discovered the birth registration of Robert Gildea in the archives of St Mary's Cathedral which are kept in the Mitchell Library.
Robert was born in Sydney on 4 February 1839, baptised 10 Feb.
We do not have any photos of our Thomas Gildea so would be very interested to see photos of Robert's eldest daughter, Mary Ann.
My email address is jultay@ozemail.com.au

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Julie

To Jultay

Definite link to my wife's family. One of the children of James Gildea & Mary McNulty was Robert Gildea born c.1838. He married a Jane Harris. Both died in the Redfern area of Sydney.
One of their children who does not show up in the NSW BDM certificates was Mary Ann Gildea. My research shows she was probably born in the Araluen area of NSW about 1867. She went on to marry Maskelyne Welsh and lived in the Cobargo area of NSW until 1951. She was my wife's g grandmother. We have pictures of her. In 2003 there was a Welsh Reunion in Cobargo and Mary Anne's story plays a part in the booklet that was produced for the occasion.
I would be very happy to swap information with you.
Regards
Alan D
My 2x great grandfather was James Kildea/Gildea who emigrated with his wife Mary McNulty on board the Adam Lodge in 1837. His place of birth on death certificate is Donegal with parents James Gildea (Blacksmith) and Mary MacDonald.
James was a blacksmith and settled eventually on the South coast of New South Wales at Mullenderee, Moruya. He and Mary had 8 children, two of his sons were blacksmiths and so were some his grandchildren.
I'd be interested if anyone shares this family on their family tree.
Julie

Just wondering how you are progressing with your research into the Gildea family. Ann Gildea was my great grandmother, she married Barney O'Neill in NZ. She came out here with her sisters, Susan married Timothy Miscall, Laetitia married Edward O'Connell and Catherine married a Laverty, to marry men who had left Ireland for the goldfields of NZ. We met some Gildeas in Ireland in 2005 but they were not closely related to our family

Would be pleased to follow up on other relatives.

John Springford,
Havelock North,
New Zealand

My Gilday/gildeas were from Co Longford. Patrick Gildea was born in 1866 and a Catherine Gildea was born in 1867, both in County Longford, Ireland. Their parents were John Gildea and Mary Smyth/Smith and they had 8 additional children--Thomas, Michael, Laurence, Rose, John (my grandfather), Ann, James and Mary. They were all born in County Longford and all came to the US. Does it appear that this Patrick is the same as the Patrick in my family?
Joan Gilday Edmonds

I just came across this.

I am a descendent of John Healy & Maria Gildea through Annie Healy. Annie Healy went to England where she married William Henry Weeden. William and Annie had a bunch of children, one of whom was also named William Henry. William Henry Weeden (born 1896) was my grandfather. He became a British Home Child through Dr. Barnardo's group and was sent to Canada -- this, after Annie died in 1908.

I'd be interested in any more information about Annie's family.

My Gildeas came from Boyle, Roscommon/Sligo. Patrick Gildea b.1802 married Honora Gildea b.1811 and had the following kids. Mary b.1826, Brigid b. 1833, Anne b.1838, Edward b.1840, Kath b.1841, Susanne b.1843, Letitia b.1845 and John b.1852. Sorry no 2nd generation Patrick that I know of. Most of the Girls emigrated to New Zealand and John spent some time there but He and his brother Edward could have ended up anywhere and almost certainly would have named a son Patrick.

Hello, I'm also researching the Stanley surname. My GG grandmother was Mary Lucy Ann Gildea the sister of Eliza Jane Gildea. These two sisters married Stanley brothers. My grandmother was Florence Stanley of Liverpool and she used to visit her fathers cousins. Mary Lucy Gildea married Edward Herbert Stanley. His father, and William Henry Stanley's father, was William Henry Stanley b. 1829. Eliza Jane's parents were Charles Gildea and Ann Rogers. Eliza Jane's siblings were: Charles b. 1840, Mary b. abt 1843, Arabella b. 1851 and Julia b. 1859. Hope this helps.

cheers

I have all the baptism records and death certificates but there's no clue as to where exactly they lived, just Boyle district no Townland. Can't find them in Griffiths either.
