I still am trying to find a connection but can't. My father William Giles was born in Cummington on 10-12-1901 but none of those names ring a bell. If I can come up with something I will let you know. Thanks

Hello Brenda,

I have researching my GILES connections for many years, and some of that information now appears in my blog-page at www.pigott-gorrie.blogspot.com - including some details of the American descendents of William Leese GILES, an elder brother of my gt-grandmother Ellen GILES, wife of Rev Henry Robert PIGOTT, who spent 28 years on Batist Missions in Ceylon before emigrating to N.S.W.
William Leese GILES was Minister of the Baptist Church in Cannon St, London, 1863-1872, and had issue, inter alia, a son William Elphinstone GILES, who went to Massachusetts.

Would be very happy to learn of your detailed family connections, and exchange any other useful information.

Regards,

Chris PIGOTT, Potts Point, N.S.W. at cgpigott@yahoo.com.au

Patrick Gibson's son, John B., married a Giles. We cannot get beyond Patrick to his father and mother's name. Do you have any information on Patrick (born 1740 and died 1817 in Williamson County, TN?
Your story of Claud Davis is almost identical to my Claud Davis. I can't find him anywhere. I know he was in Elk Co. PA in 1904 and worked as a boss probably in the lumber industry. He married Sarah C. Kennedy and had two children, my grandfather John Ransom Davis and his sister, Pearl Nora Davis and then dissappeared. His name was Claud Leo Davis and was probably born around 1885 as Sarah was born in 1886 in PA. Pearl's son found out his name by sending for his mother's SS application. I found my grandfather's birth record in Elk Co PA courthouse and his parents were Claud Davis and Sarah Davis. This was in 1905. The coincidence is amazing. I've been looking for Claud for 10 years. Sarah remarried in WV under a false name to Sanford Arl Tenney in 1910.

It is located at Taylor Chapel Church Cemetary and is well maintained by the small 15 member church. He was a very well known sniper in Vietnam, shot on Feb 16 , 1970 , died on the 19th. He must have been on second tour, since he was only 20 and was in Vietnam on Jan 18,1969 serving with Alpha company. He served with Kermitt from San Fran, Calif and he was a very young Sgt,he made Sgt at 19.

Hello. Do you know anything about an Angeline Giles? She married a Wetherbee in Stow, Massachusetts. She was a doctor, in the late 1800s, at a time when being a female doctor was unusual. She is my ancestor.
Thanks. cflfnl@juno.com

I hope people are still receiving email alerts about this post.
I am the granddaughter of Harriette Giles. She was the daughter of William E Giles and Alice Louisa Findley.
We just started our genealogy project tonight and have been reeling over all the glorious finds. One of our favorites is the amount of times we are seeing names starting with E. It is a tradition my girls and I want to hold to as both their grandmother and I have E names.
Also incredible is the fact that my Anglican/Episcopalian daughter is studying Opera and Ministry at a Baptist College.
I would love love love any copies of pictures or anything you would be willing to share.
I was brought up thinking we didn't have an extended family..
Thank you so very very much
BrendaEllen Froude Wieber

I am researching my friend's ancestors. I can go as far back as Franklin Giles, born March 1843 in Mississippi. In censuses, he is listed as living in Scooba. He was married to Caroline ?. I don't have a date for Franklin, who sometimes is listed as Frank. Do you have anything that might connect him to your line?

Stanton & Lincoln Giles

A few years back I bought a cased tin type photograph. Looking closer at it recently, I read the note in the cases that read “1865 Lincoln and Stanton Giles 1867 Grandma V’s Brothers.” Assume the dates are birth years. It is a picture of two young children all dressed up sitting in a chair.

I checked a posting on GenForum dated 2002 and am reasonably sure they are the sons of Jacob and Catherine (Kellar) Giles found living in Annawan, Henry County, Illinois in the 1870 and 1880 census living with parents Jacob and Kate Giles. (Edwin) Stanton Giles, born 1867 and died 1915, is buried at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana---per ‘find a grave,’ which has a picture of his tombstone.

I will part with the tin type for a reasonable price. It is housed in nice case (may be leather) with two swing latches. Behind the tin type there is an old ‘internal revenue’ three cent stamp of George Washington (per Ebay a value of $30+) attached to the back. I know nothing about stamps, so what I say regarding the stamp was found on Ebay and not confirmed. This stamp I believe was issued between 1871 and 1875…which would match their ages.

I have been doing genealogy research for many years and I would love to find a treasure such as this. So, if either of these gentlemen happens to be in your direct lineage (and please be honest) I will part with it. If interested contact me on the below email address and I will forward some pictures.

My email is racarri40@gmail.com
I'm trying to find out any information on my great-great and great grandfathers David and Calvin Bragg. Calvin was from Eldorado, Ill. He was born about 1880. I believe his father's name was David. We don't know very much about him, other than the family had a farm and he had some brothers. If anyone has any information about this family, I would be greatly appreciative.

A death certificate for Willie's father, Jessie Young Giles (d. Nov 1927) shows Jessie's parents are J T Giles and Mary Morgan. Just thought I would write in case we are looking for the same connection.
