Peter had a son, John Crawford Gill b. Feb 12, 1856 in Texas. John's mother would have been Mary Elizabeth Boles, b.1833 AL, daughter of Travis Boles. His wife, Annie T. Gill, who he married in Milam County, TX 1879.

Right John Gill?

I have a documented father for Peter per estate records. A documented grandfather and more. Lots of data back to Isaac Guille b.ca.1644 in France who migrated to VA in 1685. DNA tests as well.

I actually just finished my application on my mothers side, however I would love to research my paternal line. I have it up to John C Gill born Feb 1856. Not sure if your Peter Gill was his father or not. Would love assistance.

Leslie Hickman
Bkread2 (aol)

If it's the John C Gill born in Feb 1856 in Milam Co, TX whose both parents are from Alabama he later went to marry Annie (don't have maiden name, she was born in Texas ) who had my great grandmother Matilda C Gill ( Jan 1882) who married Sam S Hickman. Unfortunately when I met Matilda I was only 6 to her 94 and I was more interested in the ice cream bar. I do know that family is still In Milam, Limestone & Ellis counties.

Leslie Hickman
Bkread2@aol.com

Emilia Gill, daughter of Edward Gill, Co. Galway

Emilia Gill was my g-g-grandmother and she married my g-g-grandfather Charles McCarthy on Feb 4, 1864 in Liscannor, Co. Clare. The marriage cert said she was 18 (born about 1845) in Co. Galway, and her father was a Edward Gill, a farmer.

I've been searching and the nearest Edward Gill farming is in Athlone/Westmeath in GV, of 13 Edward Gills, but I guess it won't be easy trying to get a match.

One would wonder why Emilia Gill would be so far from home (the marriage cert said she was residing in Liscannor at the time), perhaps she was in domestic service....

Anyway if this links into anyone, I would be delighted to hear.

I think we may possibly be related. My grandfather's name is Ivan Blair Gill and his father is Bernard/Barney Gill and his mother is Irma Blair. I know his father, Barney, was married to a woman previous, but I don't know who. He had children in that previous marriage, one of whom was named William. My father knows more information about Barney, such as his occupation(s), but I don't think he knows much about who Barney was married to previously. I just know that Barney was buried at Floyd Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. If you have any information about Barney and any of his children or ancestors, that would be great.

It appears that there is evidence of John L. Gill (perhaps the L is for Lumpkin) b.1791 SC, is the father of Peter Gill b.1825 AL. He had a number of children, all adults by 1850.

Children are:
Elizabeth b.1814
William Harrison Gill b.1816
James Diffey Gill b.1822
Peter Gill b. 1825
Joseph Kerr Gill b.1827 (could be Joseph Carr Gill)
Margaret J. Gill b. 1831
Charles Curt Gill b.1833
Henry Hopson Gill

Peter Gill, b.1825, was a blacksmith in Franklin County, AL in 1850. (also, later in Texas) A Peter Gill blacksmith is on a Jefferson County list for the Mexican War in the 1840's, stating his birth was in Elyton.

Trying to find a will for John L. Gill or land record or newspaper account. Any and all information on John Lumpkin Gill will be very helpful.

Looking for information on William Gill, the 3rd husband of my maternal grandmother, Evelyn (Eva) nee Arnold and father of two of her children. Marriage was brief (he deserted her and may have gone to MN). Was brought back on family desertion charges and was offered the chance to join Canadian Army in WWI to serve his sentence. Returned to the area after the war and worked in a Saloon called The Board of Trade on Silver Street. Evelyn was gone I think by this time.

His will (Chesterfield County, VA, Will Book 9, 1818-1823, page 596-, recorded August 22, 1822) list children Vaden and Jacob Gill, Winney Granger, Ritter Brown, Nancy Selby, Peter E. Gill, Elizabeth B. Traylor, Wilmouth Gill, Mary A. Litchford, German B., Amanda F. and Alisa M. Gill. After naming his daughter Ritter Brown, he names grandaughter Elizabeth G. Wilson. After naming his daughter Eliza B. Traylor, he names granddaughter Susan A. Traylor. He also list Vaden's son Jordan.

Ritter married Joel Brown, Elizabeth B. married Archer Traylor, Jr., Wilmouth married John Worsham Edwards, Mary A. married James Litchford, Amanda F. married Edward F. Perkinson and Alisa married 1st Pleasent Albert Mann and 2nd Thomas Clayton. I do not know the husband of Winny Granger. I do not know the name of Elizabeth G. Wilson's parents.

So you see, Jacob Gill, Nancy Selby, and German B. Gill were siblings.

thanks, I think my Nelson Gill is most likely Daniel's son. Nelson's obit lists him as born in Ira, VT (wasn't that right next to or part of Castleton, VT?). I think I also have a copy of that letter.

He was born January 8,1927 and just celebrated his 85th birthday. He wasnt raised with his father and any information you could send to me would be appreciated.I finally saw a picture of my grandfather about 2 1/2 years ago sent by Milton Gill's grandaughter. MY father isnt as tall as his dad but the resemblance is remarkable and my father has the beautiful Gill trademark blue gray eyes and had the silver streak in his hair at a young age. I have had the opportunity ti read a little about my grandfather and his life was pretty exciting.

Janie died after 1920. Hennrietta is living in the household of a Dickerson family after 1920. Any information on the father or other information is greatly appreciated.

Re: GILL Family of South Australia - Joseph Gobey

Julie: Maybe you have found this info since 2006, but if you search the Australian Digitised Newspapers at http://trove.nla.gov.au/ for Joseph Gobey, you will see an obituary (SMH 1 July 1876) which indicates Joseph had a distinguished career as a soldier in the Peninsular Campaign against Napoleon, and that he met Prince Albert, Duke of Edinburgh during his visit to South Australia in 1868. Not bad for a cow keeper! Also see Ancestry family tree at http://trees.ancestry.com.au/tree/21751864/person/1128541995 .
