I have recently begun doing family research, and my father's mother was Bernice Johnson, a twin (sister Beulah) born to Nancy Jane Gillette.

I have heard rumors over the years as well. You indicated you had information on all the sisters and photos... I would be very interested in that. I do have just one picture of my grandmother Bernice, she was probably in her 40's or 50's.

My maiden name is Shanks. My father is Douglas Gillette Shanks and his father was Lankford Ashby Shanks. Thanks for any information you might have.

Hoping that life has been good to all on this thread.

Thank you kindly for any information.
Hi Joanie: I see that you have Gillettes in PA in your research. Wonder if you might have a Russell Gillette, born about 1870/71, son of Thomas and Amelia(?) Gillette? He died in NJ in 1940. I don't know where in PA the family was located, but I continue to hope a connection will be made eventually.
Thanks for any info you may be willing to share.
Sharon in NJ
Reuben Gillett/Gillette Farmington, CT

I am searching for information on the parents Reuben Gillett/Gillette born Apr. 16, 1781, Farmington, CT died Jun. 27, 1863 in Malone, NY. He married Prudence (last name unknown) born 1777 in CT died Jan. 25, 1852 in Constable, NY. They had 3 known children: Sophia (1806-1872) married Clark Langdon; John Gillett (1811-1834) and Sidney Wadsworth Gillett (1816-1902).

I believe my Reuben Gillett is the son of Reuben Gillett of Farmington, CT and his first wife, Rhoda Merrill. I have Reuben Gillett Sr. born 11/5/1753 in Farmington died Apr. 12, 1837 in Cornwall, VT. He married first Rhoda Merrill, 2nd Pamelia Baldwin and 3rd, Lydia Avery. He had several children with his second and third wives.

As my Reuben Gillett was born in 1781, he would fit in perfectly as being the first son of Reuben Gillett b. 1753. Rhoda Merrill must have died before 1787 as that is when Reuben Gillett Sr. married Pamelia Baldwin his second wife.

Does anyone have any information on Reuben Gillett Sr. b. 1753? I am looking for proof that he is the father of my Reuben Gillett. Reuben Gillett Sr. moved to Oswego, NY and Nicholville, NY before going back to VT. As my Reuben Gillett also came to NY, I believe this also serves as further evidence they are father and son.

Listed on the 1910 census, Charlotte, Dickson, Tennessee, with daughters Francis and Edney, and son Henry L. Gillette, and 3 boarders. Where is Frank in 1910? By 1930, she is widowed and sons Henry D. age 18, and Guy age 14, live with her. is Henry the same son who was 8 in 1910, or is this another son? I am trying to find out the name of her father and which Ivy family her mother belongs to, and a marriage date if possible. Carlene

I saw one of your earlier posts and answered there. This is very interesting because Albert seems to be my ggfather. Everything fits down to the birthdays. Here's what I found:

Albert Born 1869, married to Birdie born 1872.
lived in Cayuga NY in 1910 and Onandaga NY in 1930.

Their kids were: Warren, Glen, Sada and Stanley who was 1yr old in 1910.
That fits your data as well.

Warren is my Grandfather who had four sons: Albert O, Warren I, Russell S. and Charles E.

Charles E. Gillette is my father who passed in 1994.

Do any of these names fit any of your other data?

I'm Martin Warren Gillette.

i don't know if you ever found this out but there is an Alfred Gillette in the records who married a Birdie. They had four kids: Warren, Glen, Sada and Stanley. Stanley was 1yr old in 1910 and lived in Cayuga NY. seems to fit except for Alfred vs Albert.

the reason i was looking is the my father was Charles E Gillette. he had three brothers: Albert O, Warren I, and Russell S. Their father was Warren I (spouse Nabbie R). this Warren seems to be the same Warren who was Alfred's son with the brother Stanley. That would mean your great-grand-father and my grand father might have been brothers.

Gladstone was raised by an aunt and my notes say he later moved to California Gladstone had 3 sisters, Dorothy, Nina and Hazel. Hazel died at age 3 in 1903 in Chicago. George was the son of Arthur & Mary Gillette, Maud the daughter of Thomas L. Hooper and Chloe Arrolia Kinney. I am descendant of Chloe and her second husband, Albert Carson Newman.

Hi Folks,
I am a Gillette Family researcher, looking for information about Lt Col. Melvin E. Gillette, son of Glenroy Gillett of Warren Co, Illinois. I have made the acquaintance of a "New Cousin", saying that we have a "cousin" buried at Arlington National Cemetery. I scoffed a bit, because I would have known that. Come to find out, Melvin E. Gillette is indeed a grandson of my GGrandfather, Oscar Gillett. My new cousin actually had a photo of Melvin, his brother, Chester and mother, Aneta Clem/Gillette/Elkins, at Riverview Park, in Chicago.
Problem is, I have Melvin's birth, his death and his Bio from the Arlington Cemetery site, but nothing in between. I nor the Gillett Family, even know if he was married, or had children. I am hoping that you folks are able to help out.
I send pleasant greetings from Illinois.
Jake Thorn
