Hi. I am Jonathan's father Carl. We work on this tree together. I have given you access to my tree. (Carl's Family Tree 2012) I have some Gillinghams but not the Srewart Stanlley or Jeremiah. I have a Mary Mariah Gillingham with no spouse who is Jonathan's Great grandfather's sister. I hope you can find some useful info there. If you have a problem let me know.

Ah, found it by accident. I don't think there's any connection. I'm looking for the family of William Gillingham, bapt Beddington, Surrey, UK, 1725, died Beddington 1825. He married Jane, and his parents were John & Kezia Gillingham, about whom I can find nothing!!

Joan

I'm Dave Clark in Toronto, Canada and am doing some research for a friend whose great grandfather was Joseph Gillingham, born in Fogo in 1877. He married Catherine who was formally married to Esau Gillingham, both of whom were from the Fogo area. Joseph appears with Catherine and Esau's family in St. John's, Newfoundland in the 1921 census. They had a large family and many of them went to Brooklyn, N.Y. in the 1920's as Joseph was a furrier and I assume did a lot of business in New York.
Perhaps we should compare notes. My Brother married Carolyn J Brown. They have Two children, jessica 1985 and meaghan 1989.I have one child with dinesh uniyal named cardine joy 1991 Presently i'm engaged to Kirt Granger Voth who is in the Canadian forces and now posted to Gagetown new Brunswick Canada and that is why i reside in Fredericton nb. grahame Pearce I found out today has talked to my brother and sister from oakville on and St catharines respectively. love to learn more details about the pearce family... cheers Carol

Hi Norman,

I am doing a tree for the Miles Family in Baltimore. Ross Joseph Miles m. Louise Brendel; her father, Louis H. Brendel, Sr. m. Anna E. Buckman, b. 1866, whose parents we are trying to find. The rumor is her family was from Main Line Phila, poss. Bucks County, and were associated with Brewsters and Malloys. The Brewster were carriage makers for the US presidents in the 1800's in Philadelphia. The Malloys were supposed to be in tugboats in Philadelphia. We know that Anna inherited 1/32 from a will of a great grand parent(??) from the Hudson Valley sometime around 1911 or so. She and Louis Henry were able to buy 3 houses on Federal Hill in Baltimore on Battery Ave (1218, 1235 and 1243). One of her relatives was one of those man who jumped out of his office window after the 1929 stock market crash. It may be that a family member had a haberdashery in Baltimore city as well. Do you have any information which might help us find Anna E Buckman's ancestors?

Thanks,
Carol

You have it right Betsy Lane was your Josephines mother. Betsy is a common short name for Elizabeth. James was born Aug 8 1770, he first married Ruth Little and had 3 children James, Daniel and Ruth. James and Betsy had 14 children including your Josephine and My Madison Gillingham. Madison who would be my decendent, named his daughter Josephine Triphosa she being born in 1840.

Your post was great, but left me just a little short.

You wrote: "5. iv. Betsey Lane, b. 9 Feb., 1782 [Gillingham Fam. Is she the mother of Josephine Tryphosa Gillingham?

Josephine's death certificate (1895) names her mother as Elizabeth and father as James. As there are so many James Gillinghams, I am not sure of Josephine's father and mother.

I would love your information. Is your Josephine Gillingham, Josephine Tryphosa Gillingham b. 1 June, 1818, Newbury, NH d. 13 Apr, 1895 in Claremont, NH m. John Ayer 1843?
Her death certificate states her mother as Elizabeth Lane. I am confused if Elizabeth is Betsey Lane? Josephine T's father was James Gillingham, but I may have too may James'.

When was Josephine's father born 1770 or 1776? Did her father James marry twice? Was his first wife possibly Hannah Twiss or Ruth Little? Who were Josephines brothers and sisters.

Any of the above information would help me clear this matter up.
Hmm, tricky one! Robert and Catherine were married in Madras in 1867. There appear to have been 2 daughters, Maud M born 1872 in Rangoon and Victoria E born "at sea" in 1874. The births of all 3 children are listed in the Army section of the civil registers and their father's regiment is listed as "10th" - unfortunately no more details. On Alfred Henry's marriage certificate of 1890, Robert is described as Colour Sergent deceased. The 2 girls are on the 1881 census in Prittlewell, Essex described as Orphans, and both later went into service in London.

Speculatively, Robert the Colour Sergeant may be the Corporal in Aldershot on the 1861 census (Battery A, Royal Horse Artillery) born about 1839 Devonport, Devon. Either or both of these Roberts may also be the Robert born Dec 1841 in Bideford to Alfred Gillingham and Sarah Newman. I like this possibility as Robert named his eldest child Alfred.

From the message title it looks as if you have also reached this conclusion? I would be interested to know how you got there and whether you have anything further on any of the Roberts?

best wishes

Sian
