John and Samuel Gillmore

The 1810 Federal Census of Mentz, Cayuga, New York, NARA Roll: 31, Page: 1174, Line 9 lists the family of John Gillmore and Line 10 lists the family of Samuel Gillmore. The proximity of these two Gillmores suggests a relationship between them. Can anyone help me place these two people into a family tree.

I am looking for a George Gilmore, born in Norfolk Ontario area in 1879. He moved to Carsonville, Michigan around 1884 with his mother Elizabeth and younger sister's Lizzie (Elizabeth) and Lulu. His older sister Cora also lived in Carsonville, then moved to Flint. She is my 2nd great-grandmother.
Family lore has it he was a bit of a wanderer. Apparently he met a woman and was never heard from again. I do have a picture of him.
He was also intrigued by Wild Bill, if that helps.
Thanks,
Amy Tarnacki

Hi I am researching the Gilmore Family that came from Moore N.C. to Jackson Co. TN. in 1840. Listed in 1840-1850 Jackson Co. TN. Census is William (1790) and wife Winna (1794) Gilmore. I think your John L. Gilmore is part of this family I am researching. In 1850 John L. Gilmore is living with is sister and brother in-law, Robert and Edith (Gilmore) Sweet in Independence Co. Arkansas, Margaret/Martha Cane is living next door. They married Aug. 28, 1851 in Independence Co. Ark. In 1860 they are in Overton Co. TN. Not found in census in 1870, 1880 John L. Gilmore is in Hamilton Co. Illinois, by his self listed as widowed, 3 of his children are living in Ozark Co. Mo. with his sister Ellen (Gilmore) Allen. By 1900 John L. Gilmore is in Ozark Co. Mo. living with is son John H. Gilmore. Children I can find for John L. and Martha (Cane) Gilmore in the census are:
1.James Frank Gilmore b. 1852
2.William Gilmore b.1855
3.Mary Gilmore b.1857
4.John H. Gilmore b. 1860
5.Elijah T. Gilmore b.1868
6.Delevine Gilmore b.1866
Are these some of the children you have for him? Would like to correspond with you on this family.
Shelia

Gilmore surname

I'm researching my husband's, mother's side of the family, maiden name is Gilmore. I realize that the postings I've found on the message boards are old ones, but thought I would make an attempt. My mom-in-law's father was Benjamin Ives Gilmore, his father was Stephen Gilmore which I found on the 1870 U. S. Census for Aurelius Twp., Ingham Co., MI. This shows Stephen's mother as Mary J. and brothers William, Alexander, and Wheaton, and sisters Sarah A. and Rosanna. So I'm sure that we are researching the same family line. My mom-in-law didn't remember much about Stephen aka: Steven, thinks he moved south or west after divorcing his wife Hattie Elsworth. Hattie remarried Theron Johnson and Ben and sister Millie were raised by him, their father skipped the scene. And he is poss. buried out west somewhere. Does anyone have any info about Stephen that would point me in the right direction, even a date of death would help. Millie Gilmore married a James H. Gilmore (not related by my understanding) he was a Mayor of Monroe, MI they had one son William. Ben's first wife was Gela Grace May Peters (full blood chippewa) and had 5 children, Ben, Kenneth, Velma, Durward, & Virginia Gilmore. She died young and Ben's second wife was Bertha K. Blodgett, Keif. They didn't have any children together.

Thank you
Bonnie Silsbee
from MI

GILLMORE/GILMORE, Yorkshire England 1880 - 1930's

I'm looking for any information on GIL(L)MORE's located in Yorkshire, England from 1880 - 1930. My gr. grandfather George Robert GILLMORE (b 188?, Scarborough) changed the spelling of his surname to GILMORE sometime prior to joining the British Army in 1900-02. He put his age up to be eligible to enlist, played the bugle, was a member of the Kings Royal Rifle Corp (period unknown) and served in the army for 20+ years.
It is known George had a younger brother named William Henry GILLMORE (b. 1892 Malton, Yorkshire).
Family rumours indicate: there were several other siblings (both m & f) including brothers named Alfred and Ernest and a sister named Lillian; and George and his siblings were abandoned by their mother at a train station. Faded papers indicate their parents may be named George GILLMORE and Ellen (nee THOMAS). Living family members have been unable to shed light on this due to George Robert never talking about his family.
George Robert m. Jessie Isobella Louise RANGER (b. 1884, Lambeth) in 1909 when she ran away to meet him in Malta. They had 3 children.
William Henry GILLMORE m. Ada Clapham and had 8 children.
Both George and Henry moved their families to Australia separately during the 1920's.
If you have any queries or any of this sounds familiar to you please post or send a reply. Anything is appreciated! Thanks,
Kirsty (webbies@iinet.net.au)

I'm just beginning my search. I know the following and not much else.

My gg-grandmother was Dora Elizabeth Gilmore. She married. Rufus Wiggs. They had 3 children. Lived in Rutherford county/Nashville Tennessee for a while before moving to North Carolina. Her father was Milton Scott Gilmore. He served in the 18th reg. Company F from Tennessee during the war between the states. Again, the Rutherford County/Nashville area. There were 6 (?) girls in her family. I don't even know their names. Have pictures of them...no names. I don't even know her mother's name.

I know that when she and Rufus got married they had peacock for their wedding supper. (But that's not really much help, is it? <grin>)

Anyone who might know them, please get in touch with me at either whitneywalters@yahoo.com or zacharywiggstree@bellsouth.net

Anything would be helpful.

Whitney

Re: Gil(l)mores of Fayette/Effingham Co., Illinois USA 1830s

I descend from William Gillmore of Morgan/Wolfe co KY. who later is found in Fayette co IL. William Gillmore and wife Jane(Gillespie) are found in the 1860 census of Morgan co KY and have moved to Fayette co IL by 1869. I have no idea who the parents or siblings of William are. Some of Williams children are later found in the 1870 census of Kansas. The 1850 KY census states that William ,age 29 was born in Ky and both his parents being born in TN.Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
Jerry at kjh@ckt.net
