I may be about to start doing some research on a Gingell line in Wiltshire and wonder if it is a 'local' name or if not, what are its origins?

Thanks,

James.

Mary Gingell Mayhew

I am trying to prove or disprove that Mary Gingell Mayhew is my Mary Mayhew. in the process I am in contact with a Gingell and am hoping to help him figure out Mary Gingell's connection to the Gingell tree.

Mary Mayhew b. abt 1748 of Colchester, Essex, England
m. 9 Oct 1769 Saint Nicholas, Colchester to Joseph Cross of Colchester

Mary Gingell Mayhew chr. 19 FEB 1748 Saint James, Colchester, Essex, England
we don't know who she married unless she is my Mary.

however, these various notes from my own research and that of some people I've connected with over the years gives this data;

possibly the daughter of Robert and Mary

Robert and Mary Mayhew removed from St. Botolph's to St. Mary at the Wall in Colchester in 1762.

a check of FamilySearch finds a Robert and Mary Mayhew (no marriage) at St. James in Colchester with a daughter Mary b. 1748 and a daughter Martha b. 1750. they are in the IGI but not in the AF.

is this my Mary?

MARY Gingell Mayhew
Female
-------------------------------------------------------------
Event(s):
Birth:
Christening: 19 FEB 1748 Saint James, Colchester, Essex, England
Death:
Burial:
-------------
Parents:
Father: ROBERT Mayhew
Mother: MARY
Source Information:
Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type:
K151761 1561 - 1774 NONE Book NONE
Sheet: 00

we suspect that my Mary had a sister Martha, as does Mary Gingell. Martha m. Mary's brother in law, Edmond Cross

My cousins, sandra, brian and trevor were gingells. My mother's sister Ivy married william gingell. My mother's surname was bandelow her first name was May. I have located the bandelow family to new york in 1870, whitechapel england in 1866 and possibly to neustettin, pomerania germany before that but cannot trace the family definitely to that area, nor confirm the date of immigration to england. When in new york the family live in essex st in the bowery. i have a birth cert. for johann bandelow born in new york in 1870 my name is john swan

Gingell = Gongoll???? Photo

Hi,
I came looking for a Gongoll or Gongall board because I recently purchased an old photo at an antique store in Denton, TX The photography studio was from Minneapolis, MN. The photo is of two very well dressed young men and on the back is written B. Gongoll( or Gongall), R.G. Gongoll. From the looks of the clothing and hairstyles I think the time frame is early 1900's.
These young men are no connection to me, I just thought it was a cool photo and maybe I could find some descendants to return it to.
Deb
p.s. There are several boards with close variations of this name but I don't know that I saw overlapping post-ers... maybe you guys need to consolidate your resources!

Hey all, My Grandfather married Beatrice Gingell and she was from Queens NY and Beatrice had as I understand it two sisters Ethel and Adelaide and a brother Harrold. Do any of you have these people in there tree? I will however check out the www.gingell.com site but wanted to post this message. My grandfather was Paul Bertram Holgate and he came over from England and met Beatrice on the subway. They had two sons Robert Harrison Holgate and Paul B. Jr.

My great,great
grandfather was named Samuel. He came to America from England. His wife,
Elizabeth was from Holland. My great grandfather was named Samuel
also. He was born in Cannelton, Ind. Nov.23, 1861, married Alice
Cooper{born in England May 1865} in 1885. They had 8
children:
1. Elizabeth {my great
grandmother, the person I inquired about} Born May 17, 1887
in West Pittston, Pa. Died Aug. 5,1946. M
Married William Ernest Morgan in 1906.He was born in Wales,Nov. 19, 1882,--died Nov. 17, 1922.
2.Edgar 3.Ethel 4.Samuel 5.Clara 6.George 7.Lucy 8.Gene Of the above Gingells, nothing has been traced about Edgar except that he had a
daughter Arlene and was believed to be living in New Jersey at one time.
Clara never married and George only lived 1 year and Gene lived 2 years.
There is another woman in Kingston (near the W. Pittston mentioned above) whose
maiden name was Gingell and she married a Morgan. As far as I know, the
Gingell families were not related. Her name
is
Mrs. Wm. Rosser Morgan Kingston,
Pa, USA

I am very excited to hear what connection, if any you have to these "Pennsylvania Gingells"
