Re: Michigan Girardot's?

Jack is my grandfather!! Actually his name is John but everyone called him Jack. I started researching my family tree last year and am just now getting back to it. It can be very confusing at times but here is what I know. By the way I am Angela Girardot (now Hudson) my father is John Lane Girardot Jr. and his dad is John Lane Girardot Sr. Your father is my grandfather's brother. Your grandparents were Lawrence Joseph Girardot and his wife was Mabel Ruth Lane (Girardot). Lawrence born Dec. 25 1893 and died Jan. 11 1945. Mabel was born around 1904 and died around 1942. Lawrence was actually remarried at the time of his death to Esther McFadden. Lawrence's father was William Henry but he spelled the last name "Gearardo" and his wife was Mary Daugherty (Gearardo). I do have some info beyond these people but I'm not sure that it is correct after William and Mary because of the change in the spelling of the last name. I haven't been able to figure out which spelling is the original way that it was spelled. Lawrence had a brother named Malcolm who kept the last name spelled Gearardo but for some reason Lawrence spelled it Girardot. I have recently found some info on people beyond William that spelled it the way we do now so I am starting to think that Lawrence actually changed it back to the original way it was spelled. But that is just a gut feeling at this point....please let me know if you have found any other information about our family. Since it has been a couple years since you posted this. I have to say it is pretty cool to see family on here trying to find out the same info that I am. Thanks!!!! Attached are pictures of your Great Grandparents William and Mary Gearardo.

Oh and by the way..I didn't really go into your grandmother's (Mabel Lane) side of the family but let me tell you it is a very interesting line of people. I have found info on them back to the 1400's!!! The Lane's were a very well to do family who originated in England and then came to America and settled in Virginia. If you look up the Lane family in Centreville, VA...they basically founded that town and a big part of Virginia. There are actually books written on them. But anyway my username on Ancestry.com is amtrans320. I'm not sure how to send you a link to my family tree that I have going on here but if you can find it I'm sure you will enjoy checking it out. Ok now I'm done rambling :)

Angela Hudson (Girardot)

Bought a book not too long ago inscribed with:

Fred G. Giradot
With Best Love from G. M. G.

Jan. 1866

Its a book about color theory and Landscape painting. Not totally relevant. But the name was really familiar from my art history, and that led me here.

I come to this thread quite late, but the subject is of interest to me. My Arcey ancestry features a Jacoutot (Françoise) who married my great great great great great great grandfather (Antoine Cardot). The Doubs records that are online have been of great help to me in finding all the family members.

My Arcey ancestors also ended up in Indiana after emigrating, ending up in the western part of the state.

My French is very rusty indeed, but it is adequate to the task of digging through the Doubs records. :) Feel free to contact me (maxjester.geo@yahoo.com) if you need help in your research.

And if anyone reading this is descended from the Fricot, Cardot, Cuenin, Jacoutot families from Arcey, or from the Cornevaux family in LaPretiere, I would love to hear from you. Perhaps we are cousins.

Best regards ? Cordialement,
Max

Hello All,

My name is Angela Hudson maiden name Girardot. I am John Girardot's daughter. So... Jack or John Girardot ,which ever you knew him by, is my grand father. For about the last year I have been researching my family tree. Sadly I have not gotten very far on the Girardot line but I beleive I may have some info that maybe you all would be interested in. It also sounds like you may be able to help me fill in the blanks to some questions that I have not been able to answer. My email is angela.hudson79@hotmail.com. Feel free to email me or we can chat on here, either way I am very excited to read these posts :) Oh and HI Aunt Nancy..I didn't know you were on here too! Here is what I have so far......

Just for starters my great grandfather's name was Lawrence Joseph Girardot born December 25 1893 and died Jan 10 1945 he was married to Mabel Ruth Lane. Their children were Elwin or Alwin, Berenice, Robert, John Lane(my grandpa) and Kenneth. On Lawrence's death certificate is states that he was married to a woman named Esther McFadden born April 1907. I do not know when they were married or even when he and Mabel were separated. I believe that Mabel died about 1942 so maybe he remarried after she passed. I don't know I'm just guessing. I have spoke to my grandpa and grandma briefly about this but they have a hard time remembering the details. Anyway, Lawrence's father was William Henry Gearardo born in Maples, IN July 26, 1865 and died in Detroit March 12, 1924. (This is how I have been told the last name use to be spelled but nobody in my immediate family is really quite sure how it was originally spelled which is probably why I cannot find anything out beyond William. I do know that Willaim was married to Mary Daugherty and that she was born in Michigan May 23 1870 and died 1947. Their children were Lawrence (my great grandfather) and Malcom. I believe according the 1910 census' I found she gave birth to 4 children all together and only Lawrence and Malcolm were still alive that year. Also according to the 1930 census(6 years after William died) Mary was living with Malcolm and his wife Ida May maiden name Cousin and their son Richard Thomas Gearardo. I have found copies of Malcolm's WWI draft registration card from when he was 21. Says he was working as a Chauffeur for a auto factory in Detroit and that he was claiming exemption from the draft because of a nervous stomach :). Also, according to the 1910 census William was an engineer on a Lake Steamer(I think..it was hard to read) and then in 1920 worked as an engineer at a school house.
I am really trying to figure out where William's parents came from. On the census' it states his father as french and his mother born in Ohio but that's all I know about them. If any of you have information that could clue me in on where to search or what their names may have been including how the name Girardot may have been originally spelled that would be GREAT!!!

Hope to hear from you all soon!!! PS..I am attaching some pics, the 1st is William Gearardo and the second is his wife Mary Daugherty.

~Angela Hudson (Girardot)

The tree is on ancestry.com. I think you just need to click on my contact ID (jenklaus1) to view my profile....where you can click on my public trees. (I think you can view family trees for free). Let me know if you have a problem finding it.

If anything, I believe Theodule would have possibly been a cousin of Joseph's (long shot a younger brother)...but definitely not a son. I have an article that states his parents died when he was young.

Felicien Claude Pequegnot was married to Theodule's oldest daughter, Olympe Heloise Girardot, in Ontario in 1872. Both Felicien and Olympe were born about 1848, she in Grevian?, France and Felicien in Athesan, France (per their marriage record). Felicien's parents are listed as Francois Pequegnot and Henriette Mirot. Note the journals spell their name Pequegnot, but I've seen many variations in the spelling in records. The marriage record I mention has it Pequignot...and some records drop the "g" or end it in "et". Theodule and Eugenie immigrated in 1848. I do not know when Felicien came..

I haven't done a lot of deep research on this line, mainly because it isn't my family. But the journals had so much info on them, I wanted to share it. Happy to help if I can..

I know that Joseph Girardot had a large family, so a few of them could have wandered away as did the one son Frank who ended up in Colorado.

What types of information exist on the Pequenot name? I always wondered if my Gr Gr Grandmother Frances Pequenot Vinot had family in America before her immigration in 1851. I wondered if she and her husband Joseph were influenced by a Pequenot to leave their native home.

I'll check out your Girardot/Monaghan Family Tree.
I'm not aware of the connection, though it doesn't mean one doesn't exist. The journals referred to Theodule and Eugenie's family. If there is a reference in them about one of them visiting Indiana...I haven't noticed it yet. I know sometimes it is one seemingly insignificant little sentence in the journals that provides a clue. I did notice your Joseph Girardot (b. 1807) was born in a village (Villersexel) very close to Theodule's (b. 1824) village of Athesans...so there may be a relationship there. Theodule actually raised his family in Sandwich, Ontario (across the river from Detroit). I believe some of his children did come to Michigan. I also created a public tree to post many items from the journal (Girardot/Monaghan Family Tree). Have you seen it, yet? If I come across something else that I think can help you, I will let you know.

I was fascinated when I read your information. I have been investigating the Girardot line for a long time. I am very interested in your journal. Do you know if any of the Michigan Girardots had relatives in New Haven, Indiana.

My Great Great Grandmother Frances Pequenot married Joseph Claude Vinot. One of their daughters, Philomene, married
Frances (Frank) Girardot. Frank's father was Joseph Girardot.

Nancy, I believe that your husband and I are distant cousins. Philomene and Frank Girardot were my Great Great Aunt and Uncle. Philomene was the sister of my Great Great Grandfather Joseph Claude Vinot who immigrated to America in 1851. He settled in New Haven Indiana and lived there until his death in 1862. All of the Vinot siblings ended up removing to Denver by the year 1866. Philomene and Frank started out in Denver where he was a freighter until he earned enough money to begin his real dream of creating a ranch. I have a lot of history on the Girardot family as I have endeavored to find the Vinot history.

Frank and Philomene reportedly had fourteen kids. I too, have never confirmed that number. But, I can add two more to your list. They had enfant son who was born Nov 19, 1871 and died December 7, 1871. Also, they lost their eldest son, Joseph who was born May 4, 1868 and died August 28, 1897. He left behind a wife and one child.

My Grandfather Albert Vinot served in WWI with one of the Connells.

How small our world is when we start really looking.
Janet Jewell

I am researching my husband's family. His mother was Ruth Ann Connell Chamberlain, Grandfather was William Adolph Connell and his Great Grandmother was Frances Stephanie Girardot Connell. His Great-Great Grandparents were Frank and Philomene Vinot Girardot. I am looking for any relatives that have any information and photos of the family and any other information. I have gotten some mixed messages as to how many children Frank and Philomene had. I have heard that they had 14 children - however, I have only been able to document 8 - Frances, Adolph, Augustine, Stephen, Bertha, Aleen, Frank and Philomena - any information would be helpful. Thank You - Mark and Nancy Chamberlain

I am not related to this family (that I know of!). However, my great grandmother kept journals (800 or so pages) from the late 1800'a to the early 1900's. It appears she and her family (the Jacquemains) were very close to the Girardots. The journals are delicate and a few years back were digitized to help preserve their content. Anyhow, the Girardots (and Chevirons and Pequenots,...) are mentioned often. The journals do have some photos and newspaper articles (obits and anniversaries) on some in this family, including Theodule, Eugenie and Ernest. She often visited with the girls of the family. If someone out there is descended from this line and interested in what I have, contact me. I will try to figure out the best way to share it with you. I may just create a public Girardot tree for this purpose...

According to family legend her father died before she was born, so I believe that Joseph A. was her father. They lived out on S. Jay St. (I think) and we lived up North on Kennedy St. now known as Apperson Way, North at the corner of Broadway a block from North St. We all went to St. Patrick's church and school and they went to St. Joan of Arc.
Michigan Girardot's?

I'm part of the Michigan clan of Girardot's. I would be curious to know if anyone else has been doing any research on this group? My father was Robert W Girardot and he had 3 brothers, Ken, Jack, and Al. One Sister, Bea. Jack & Bea are still alive. I saw them last summer at a family dinner in MI.
It's sad but I don't even know the names of my grandparents on the Girardot side. They died young apparently. Any help?
Thanks!!
Dennis Girardot

We are native from ISLE SUR LE DOUBS, not so far from arcey, where your father was born and married.

I don't know if you are interesting in making some research on your French's roots but it's very easy. For instance, I've found in few minutes some informations about the wedding of your parents, louis and marie in 1889 :

http://doubsgenealogie.fr/genealogie/actes/acte_mari.php?xid...
Acte de mariage
Commune/Paroisse => CITY : Arcey
Départ./Province => AREA Doubs
Daté du => Date of wedding 22/02/1889
Epoux => Husband JACOUTOT Louis Jean Baptiste
Profession => Occupation Cultivateur => Farmer
Commentaire => Informations °24/06/1858 à Arcey => Birthday and city where he was born
Agé de => age he had when he married 29
Originaire de Arcey
Père => name of husband's father JACOUTOT Charles François
Commentaire => information of his birthday +28/11/1881 à Arcey
Mère => name of husband's mother DAVID Adélaide
Commentaire => age and occupation 64a cultivatrice
Epouse => Wife PIGUET Marie Lucine
Commentaire => information of her birthday, the city where she was bord and her occupation °14/12/1865 à Courmont (70) cultivatrice
Agé de => age when she married 23
Originaire de => city where she was born Courmont (70)
Père => name of her father PIGUET François
Profession => father's occupation Cultivateur
Commentaire => hs age when his daughter married 61a de Arcey
Mère => name of her mother CLEMENT Octavie
Commentaire => age and occupation whan she married 60a de Arcey cultivatrice
Autre information => other informations / it's the name and occupation their witnesses at the wedding
I
pour l'époux :
"Antoine LABATTUT 42a cousin germain par alliance cultivateur
Louis Gabriel BERLY 23a cousin germain comptable à Belfort"
pour l'épouse :
Paul PETIT 27a cousin germain tourneur sur métaux de Belfort

May be you still have all these informations about your family. If it's not the case, you can easily find all infomations with a web connexion. I can explain you how to do it. But before starting to write a book on that subject, I prefer make sure you will interest in... :o) May be you speak o understand few words in french ? If your parents were french they may have spoken with you in that langage ?

if you want to make a test, you can got on that website : http://doubsgenealogie.fr/genealogie/actes/index.php Other websites exist but it's a little bit more difficult to understand if you don't know french langage.
For any issues of translation, let's see with website : http://www.wordreference.com/fren/

We may have few cousins in common... ? ;) I have done my lineage tree but on a paper not on an electronic page. So i can't show it. May be one day if i can spare some times.

A bientôt Edmund...
Amicalement
sandra
Emile Girardot

Trying to find info on the above. Think he was born in Quebec, Canada in 1893. Certainly he was a Canadian soldier in WW1. He married Ada Hammond in England in 1916. He then returned to Canada - I think! He then appears to have crossed to the U.S. twice but was rejected on the 2nd occasion for permanent residency. Ada meanwhile was in Canada. His father was Henri (deceased by 1916) and he had a brother Harry/Henri. The spelling of his name changes from Girardot,to Girardet or Girardit and so does his date of birth. Can anyone offer any help with this please?

Also a copy of an article of Mr & Mrs Frank Girardat 60th anniversary in the Denvr Post, 2/13/1926. In the bible are Marriages of Vinot, Connell, Florence, and Givardot(sp). Los of births too. If you are interested in a scan, let me know. I am no relation, but couldn’t stand to see good info go to waste!

I looking for information about Anthony Girardot who was born in France in 1821. He came to the US sometime in the 1830's. His name was changed to Gerardat. I found his naturalization record in 1839 in Stark County Ohio. Alex(a) Girardot was naturalized at the same time. He moved to Indiana. Does someone have the connection between them? Also there is an elder Anthony Gerardat born 1790 France living with the younger one in a census record. The elder Anthony we believe was an uncle from a will that was found. I would love any info including a ship record if anyone has it. I am stuck and would love help. Thanks.

Libby,
I ended up finding a lot of Girardot family history when I was searching for material on my Great Grandfather Stephen Vinot.

Stephen and four of his sisters came to Denver in the late 1860's. One of his sisters, Philomene Vinot, married Francoise "Frank" Girardot on Feb 02, 1866 in New Haven, Indiana. There was a huge French settlement there. Shortly after their marriage they came to Denver.

Here are some details that I know of Frank and Philomene Girardot. Frank was born on July 6, 1841 in Viethory, France. He immigrated to America with his parents when he was 12. He grew up and was educated in New Haven, IN. He died at age 91 on March 7, 1932. He is buried with his wife Philomene in Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.

Philomene Vinot Girardot was born in Villafans, Dept of H'aute Saone France on March 29, 1843. She immigrated with her parents and several siblings April 4, 1851. They homesteaded in New Haven, Indiana.

Frank and Philomene ended up homesteading in the Kiowa area. They ran a cattle business. They ended up owning a ranch on the famous site called the Hungate Property where the Hungate family was massacred by Indians. Over the years they had about 11 kids.

If you are interested in any more details about the kids, I have more. I don't know if this family is related to yours. If it is I would love to know how you are connected.

Best regards,
Janet Jewell
Denver

Hillary,

There are Girardots who came to Denver in the late 19th century. Frank Girardot married my Gr Grandfather's sister, Philomene Vinot. They married in Besancon, Indiana and then moved to Denver around 1866. They eventually settled in the Kiowa, CO area and eventually had many children.

I don't know if this helps you or not.

Best wishes,
Janet Jewell

The 1880 census has a William J. Jacoutot b. 1852 in France. He was a confectioner. Married to Louisa Jacoutot. Lived in Manhattan, NY.

I also found reference to a William Jacoutot who married Caroline A. Thurber in 1869. I think I found this online in a NY Marriage database.

I am looking for info on Louise Jacoutot (nee Mullaire) who was born 12/2/1856 in France and died ?/8/1832 or 1882. She is buried in Berry Lawn Cemetery in Carlstadt, NJ. I can't read all the info on her tombstone, but she is related to Calixte Mullaire and an M. Mullaire.
