If you have any genealogy questions, give me a holler at michellemill@hotmail.com If I don't know the answer, I'll be happy to ask my grandmother.
Virginia and Florentin were second cousins. Virginia's father, Jean Baptiste Giroir, and Florentin's grandfather, Eulice Edmond Giroir, were brothers. Jean Baptiste and Eulice were the sons of Jean Baptiste and Azelie Boudreaux Giroir. Florentin's father was Joseph Augustin Giroir who married Elizabeth Montet. I have Florentin's birth and death dates if you want them.

Re: births and deaths

I'll start with Florentin's parents. Joseph Augustin Giroir was born February 14, 1868, and died about 1940. His wife, Elizabeth Montet, was born March 02, 1869, and died March 05, 1930. They had 15 children. All but one lived to adulthood. Son Joseph Florentin Arnold Giroir was born May 20, 1893, and died of pneumonia on November 26, 1946. He was named for his maternal grandfather, Joseph Florentin Montet. Augustin's father, Eulice Edmond Giroir, was born November 20, 1843, and died about 1880. His brother, Jean Baptiste, was born about 1838. The brothers were born near Plattenville but raised their own families in the Morgan City area. Augustin and Elizabeth were my grandmother's grandparents. I hope that helps! Feel free to e-mail me at michellemill@earthlink.net

Only person any one could remember was Annie Frisk. She also came on the orphan train from NY. She married a Roland Porche in 1931. A decentant of hers was at the reunion. Morgan City received a lot of kids at that time too. Many became prominent residents because at the reunion people flipped out names of many people they said came on those trains.
Seems like there were two stores in Bayou Black. One was named Greco's. They said he went up and down the bayou selling his goods from his boat.
Sorry I could not help you with your grandmother.

Hi Marieanne, Thanks for responding. My grandmother married Edmond Hebert who died a short time after they were married. Then she married my grandfather Hubert LeBlanc. They settled in Chauvin about 15 miles south of Houma. I applied for her SS application where she put her name as Rose Kernan and her adopted parents name which I will get it when I get home.I believe they lived a few houses from the store in Bayou Black. I believe there was a Tlelma in the family. I can ask my dad for other names also. My grandmother was sent tis far because the Giroir's was the family that the Foundling Home applied to adopt her.Did you live in Bayou Black?

The Giroir family still live on Bayou Black. Did Hubert Leblanc settle in that area? I do not recall this name in our family history but there are many Giroir families in this area. Why was Rose sent so far? My father was born In Gibson, but I live in New Orleans.

The french spelling of the name is Grégoire.
The Brabant (flemish) spelling is Gregoir, sometimes also Gregoor, as the long o used to be written as oi.
In Limburg (part in the Netherlands and a part in Belgium), the name is offen spelled Gregoor.
When the French took over the governement from the Ostrians around 1796, some of the Brabant peoples name was changed from Gregoir to Gregoire and Grégoire.
When the Belgian administration took over after 1830, originally in French, also for the flemish part, some peoples name changed from Gregoir to Grégoir.
In Scotland the Gailic name Gregoir can be found around 1100. Later on this name changed to the well known Anglo form:McGregor.

Regards,
Luc Gregoir
