Hi again, i conntacted Linda and keep in touch with her, have you managed to find any more information. Professor John glaister (the first one) was born in Lanark...the same as my Glaister family, prof glaisters grandfather had a brother, who is my great x3 grandfather...they both were baptised in Penrith, Cumberland. Their father was Thomas Glaister (a soldier)possibly the Thomas Glaister in Linda Owen's family tree? Prof Glaister seemed to agree...however their mother was called Sarah Glaister (maiden name also Glaister) so is this a second branch? would you be able to email me your branch of the family? andrew.glaister@yahoo.co.uk

yes Thomas Glaister and Sarah Glaister had 2 sons that i know of and probably more children. However you are looking for a sarah born 1880? the sarah i am talking about above was baptised at St Andrews Church, Penrith in 1776.

Professor Glaister's Jr and Sr papers are stored in the archives at Glasgow University. I've tried writing them but received no response.
However I have the genealogy that John jr. prepared and according to the notes he wrote afterward it is his genealogy as well but would have branched off somewhere with the family members that did not immigrate to Canada or elsewhere.
I'd be perfectly happy to share that with you. I'm in the process of transferring what I have to an excel document to make it easier to read. linda.owens@sympatico.ca

Hi,
I have a genealogy done by Prof. John Glaister of Glasgow. It dates back to 1537. I show a Thomas Glaister born 1797 whose records were found at the Holme Cultram Abbey. He had brothers William, Joseph(older) then John, Deborah, George, Rebekah and Ann. All younger.
Prof Glaister was convinced that this Eastcote/Wath branch. The papers I have follow our own particular branch down to the present day but there are lots of others that could use it I'm sure.

I have traced my family from the Glaisters of Lanark, scotland to Penrith, my great x3 grandfather Thomas Glaister was born in Penrith in 1808 he had an older brother John born in 1798. There mother was sarah Glaister...any connection?

Here is some basic information regarding Robert the son of Robert Glaister that you mentioned. He was married, raised his family and died in Colorado.

I am related to the Glaisters of Wigton, I haven't much info on them though.

All I can tell you is that my great grandfather was William Herbert Glaister who married Martha Littleton, they had five children William, John, Jane, Joseph & George.

I know my grandfather Joseph was born in 1920.

My Grandfathers name was Joseph Glaister from Wigton born 1920, his fathers name was William Herbert Glaister who married a Martha Littleton.

I know that he had 3 brothers named William, John & George and a sister called Jane.

Not sure if this is the same family.

William Herbert Glasiter (b1887) married Martha Littleton in Wigton at the end of 1912. Unfortunately these people do not appear in my own family tree but there is still a possibility there is some family connection. Glaister was a very popular name in Cumberland but several families moved across to Northumberland and Durham duirng the 1800s mostly to work in the coal mines. They can be found in the local Census of that time.

My own great great grandfather William Glaister (b1845)married Isabella Scott in Northumberland in the late 1860s. The other Willaim Glaisters in my tree both died young and unmarried. However I have not as yet fully researched this line and I have no present connection with any Glaisters.

I do not have a lot of information I am afraid, as my grandparents, father & uncle have all passed away.

On making some enquires I believe my grandfathers mothers maiden name was Littleton from a place called Wigton, I have been told that the only Littleton/Glaister marriage in the Wigton area was between William Herbert Glaister & Martha Littleton.

William & Martha had 5 children William, John, Jane, Joseph & George, so I am assuming that this is the correct family.

My grandfather was Joseph Henry Glaister born 1920 and my grandmother Mildred Lilian born 1922, they had two sons Derek born 1943 & Allan born 1946 both born in Sedgfield before my grandparents moved to Peckham in London.

My Grandparents ended up living in Hemel Hempstead, I haven't a clue what the connection to Prudhoe is, other than my father lived there for a least 12 years before he passed away.

I also know that my grandfathers ashes were taken back to Prudhoe to be scattered on his families grave.

I know my dad still has family living in Prudhoe.

I remember my dad mentioning an aunt Olive but I am not sure if she is from my grandfathers side.

If you can help in anyway on unravelling all of this it would be much appreciated.

Hi Liza,

Its very possible that this is the same family of Glaisters. My great grandparents were George Glaister (b1877) and Barbara Jane Stokoe (b1878). George Glasiter was the son of Willaim Glaister (b1845) and Isabella Scott (b1850). All lived in and around Mickley.

Do you have any more details about your Glaister ancestors?

I am originally a Glaister with ties to the Prudhoe area, my father was living in Prudhoe up until a year before his death.

My grandfathers ashes were also scattered on his parents grave I believe in Prudhoe.

Could there be a possible connection?

To update this thread the Glaister family originated from Cumberland but moved to Northumberland in the early 1800s.

Hi. I am researching my maternal grandmothers family called Glaister from Mickley Square near Prudhoe, Northumberland. My grandmother Isabella 1898 - 1967 was the daughter of George Glaister and Barbara Jane Stokoe both about 1870 - 1930 and from this location. Isabella married William Matthew Robson 1895 - 1964 from Bywell. Any others looking at this family with useful information. Thanks Dave

I am looking for a Katherine Glaister born 1760's in either Scotland or England. She married a John who then changed his surname to McReavy or McRevey (not sure what the surname was at time of marriage) She had a son named Thomas Revey born 1802 in Banff, Scotland. Other children ended up in and around Carlisle, England.
