Lawrence Glassco genealogies are available!

If you've been doing much work at all in the line of Glascock/Glasscock/Glasco/Glassco studies, you've probably heard of The Glas(s)co/Glas(s)cock Saga and its sequels, by Lawrence Glassco. This is his son Bruce. After a move and a few years during which I let my web site lapse, we're advertising my Dad's books again! All three genealogy books are available: The Glas(s)cock-Glas(s)co Saga, The Glas(s)cocks of England and America, and the rhyming The Glas(s)cock Family Tree, as well as other books by my father. For more information about these books and how to order them, visit my web site at http://home.comcast.net/~bruceglassco/PVCCHome/tree.htm.

Feel free to link to the web site, as well, so that people looking for the book will be able to find it on Google.

My father is currently in his 80s, still writing about and interested in the fascinating Glasscock family. I've given him this membership on Ancestry.com on a trial basis, to help him find out what information has been uncovered over the last decade or so. At present he is mainly interested in information about the family in England and the first few generations in America. If you know of NEW, DOCUMENTED information about the early family that isn't in one of his books, please post and let him know about it in this thread!
I don't think we are from the same line of Glasco's, even though I had a lot of Glasco's who lived in Oklahoma since the early 1900's. Beginning with E. E. Glasco who was the first elected judge of McClain County. He was married to Rosa Donovan, and they had several children: Roy, Ellen, Raymond, and Crystal. Do any of those names sound familiar to you?

My great great great grandmother Harriet Glasco was from South Carolina and she relocated to Texas in the 1860's. I know about her line after she got to Texas but not before. She is African American and was married to a Russell and a Stevenson.

Kim,

I just found some people you should talk to. They are living descendants of Erie Glasco, who was the half sister of Louis Vernon Glasco. Apparently James Miles Glasco had children from two different marriages. We have a yahoo group that has not been active in the past two years, but there's information on there that you might be interested in.

Send me an email at teglasco@msn.com or you can call me at 253-737-8913.

Sincerely,

Ted Glasco

I found a picture of him and his wife online but I would love to have more pictures, especially Harriet Glasco Russell Stevenson since I don't have any of her. I have census records with Wiley when he was a child. Let me know if you want to share. Good to hear from you cousin :)

Hi,

My mothers' maiden name was Glassco. When I started the family tree I ran into a road block and could not go farther than her grand-parents.

After several years I discovered there was a random last name change. The only records were from the census. It is a possiblity that you all are dealing with the same scenario here. Try checking for Glasscock, Glascock, Glass, Glassgow, and Glassco.

I hope this will help you to find further information that you're looking for.

Good Luck,
Lavonne

Hi William I don't have any information about Harriett Glasco before she moved to Texas, that's what I am looking for as well. There are plenty of people with the Glasco surname but I have no way of knowing if they are related or not. I don't have any information on her parents or siblings, I would love to get that information. I am unfamiliar with the names Ann, Hannah or Mac.

Hi again Charlotte:

I read your article on the Glasco manumissions. While the information does not directly contradict what I have, it does raise sufficient questions to give me pause. You make the point that a detailed analysis of the remaining probate and land transfer records is needed. Are you undertaking that work?

Mike

PS: I couldn't find the follow-up submission by the second author. Do you know when it will be published?

Thanks for the prompt response. Samuel Aldrich had two slaves who were freed on his death: Isaac (Glasco) and Prince who took the Aldrich surname. Isaac and Prince also received equal shares of a tract of land in Smithfield. Prince Aldrich later acquired land from the Arnold family in what is today the city of Woonsocket, RI. Prince Aldrich's 1792 will, probated in 1795, left much of his land holdings to the children of James Brayton who was born a slave in Newport, RI and set free by Preserved Brayton of Rehoboth, MA. Lucy Brayton, a daughter of James, married Isaac Glasco, son of Jacob (son of Isaac(I)) on 19 December 1800 in Smithfield. Thus, we are talking about the same Glasco family but in different generations. I'm trying to confiem/document whether the blacksmith Isaac Glasco, who established Glasco Village in what is now the town of Griswold CT, was the son of Jacob and grandson of Isaac(I)

My research is focussed on the descendants of James Brayton. I made a presentation on the Brayton-Willard family to the NE Chapter of the African American HisGen Society this past weekend in which I pointed out the Isaac Glasco/Griswold branch as one that needs confirmation.

No, the Glasco I have information on is from 1730. He was to be set free by Samuel Aldrich of Smithfield, Rhode Island. His wife was Jenne (also written as Jeane). His children are Mary, Jacob, Zilpha, and Jepe (maybe Jesse). They took 'Glasco' as their surname.

Hello:

Have you any info on the blacksmith Isaac Glasco of Griswold, CT? I would like to confirm that his wife was Lucy Brayton of Smithfield RI. Also I am interested in his children: Mary Ann born 30 May 1805, married James Wallis 31 December 1826 in Griswold; Eliza born 11 June 1811; Isaac Moody born 16 November 1813; and Mirando born 20 August 1820 and their descendants.

Thank you

Dear Sir/Maam,

I'm sorry but I have not records with those two names in my lineage. Most of my Glasco ancestors were in either southern Illinois, Texas, or Oklahoma during that time period.

Sincerely,

Ted Roy Glasco
