My grandmother was Isabella Glennie married to William Taylor. Her sister Elizabeth married a cousin Charles D. Gleenie. Charles owned a large dairy. We all lived in North Andover, Mass. USA. Isabella and Elizabeth descend from William married to Jean Paterson. Charles D. descends from the branch that moved to Lochrie when William married and left Rinnavoan. I show that James married to Agnes descends fron William married to Barbara Reid not Isabella Cruikshank.
Norman T.
William Glennie born Old Macher 04.08.1873 didnot have a brother and is known in Glasgow as late as 1927. He had two sisters Jane Anne and Isabella Ross. They also died in Glasgow in 1961 and 1947 respectively.

For sure there was a few Glennie's around and most likely were all related somewhere including those you have identified and including my family.

Cheers

Alex G

Hi,

Thanks,.....My William married a woman who
had a child - Alice ( Freaky eh?)

Anyway, we never knew she was adopted by William until
after His death. My father and the following two
sisters were born in wedlock.
The story was simply always told that they were all
brother and sisters.

Then Doctor bills were found from 1924
" Mrs. Fiske, and Alice Fiske" - Not Glennie,
then we knew the old family secret.

My point is, in re-reading your info about William and
his Mother Alice - Are you not perhaps looking for
birth info for William KILSBY ?
Could he have been ready made and simply accepted by
his father as a son , therefore a Glennie.

If he were born to a former husband-Kilsby; or
born to Alice as a maiden , family name Kilsby?

Just a thought.

Have you gone back any further??

Cheers from Toronto, Canada

Tim

Hi,

I am Timothy Glennie.

My father, Arnold born 1925 to William Glennie
of Dunnville , Ontario, Canada.

James ages 15, John age 13, WILLIAM age 9 and Harry
age 5 were all transported from Liverpool England as part
of the 'Home Child' project instigated by Dr. John Bernardo
Their parents died in the Toxteth poor house. The dying wish of their father was that they not stay in the work house but that they be transported to Canada for a better life.
Their father was listed as John- I think, and had said they came from Seven Oaks KENT.
The 1839 registry shows 74 Glennie's in Kent at that time.

My Grandfather, William , was born in 1899- father John, and a brother John.
We knew 'little ' Harry his whole life -
John and James were not heard of after 1910.

A William Glennie founded a school in Kent- lord Byron was one of his pupils. This Wm Glennie had 12 kids !!

I think he started it all.

Also, a William Glennie was put in charge of the work for the digging of the BOX tunnel by chief Engineer I.K. Brunell
and later for a bridge by the same Engineer.

The spelling ' ie' is said to be the Scottish version of Glenny- mainly found in Aberdeen shire.

This MAY help you search back further.

Good Luck -
Timothy William Harry Glennie
John Forbes Glennie was one of seven (surviving) children of Alexander Glennie (1818-1895) and Helen (Ellen) Forbes (1822-1905.) He was born in Woolwich Township on his father's farm (and next to his uncle's farm - my great-great grandfather George Glennie.) He moved to Portlage la Prairie, MB in 1885 before returning to Ontario and settling at Galt. His parents left the farm in 1891 and retired to Nichol Township, Wellington County. Both are buried at Winterbourne Presbyterian Cemetery in Woolwich.

Emigrated from Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire in 1845.

Glennie Information from Elora Cemetary - Ontario

As I was researching Glennie burial records I contacted the town of Elora and got the following that might help other Glennies in their research:
As you are aware if you read the stone listing the Alexander A Glennie listed there was born in 1863 and died in 1921. His wife was Elizabeth Sherriffs, 1865-1940 and their only son George M Glennie, 1899-1948. There is also Andrew Main Glennie, dod Aug 1, 1923 aged 35 years and his wife Elsie Ellen, 1894-1974. In another location there is a M E (Bessie) Glennie, 1900 – 1930 wife of Roy VanZant and yet another Annie Ada Glennie, died Nov 29, 1918 aged 26 years wife of Hugh Roberts. That is it for the Elora Cemetery.
Hi Loraine
I have tried to post this twice with a photograph of the gravestone but it seems to get rejected so here it is without the picture and I hope it gets through. I have more pictures if anyone wants them - just email me.

I came across an old grave in an abandoned cemetery site in Wynberg / Kenilworth the other day of the gravestone of Amelia Florence Glennie who died at Kenilworth Station on 27 November 1891 aged 23.

The National archives of SA have this grave recorded on their site and record the initials of the father as W.S. Glennie although this may not be correct as it looks like the stone mason/engraver may have made a mistake and tried to rectify this as it is not clear on the stone.(It may be W.G. Glennie that you refer to and the child one of the 11 children you refer to)

To me it seems such a pity that this historical grave, of such a young girl - Amelia Florence Glennie - is so neglected or so long forgotten, so it seems, by the authorities and family who may think that all these graves were relocated when this site was probably cleared for development of the petrol station.

I cant find any other reference to her or her father (who may have been a wagon maker in King Williams Town as two people have suggested this)
Dave During
dduring@eject.co.za

Robert Harren married Annie Glenney
both from N Ireland
the following were born in Haldimand,Northumberland,Ont,Canada - William Joseph(1856),Henry Samuel(1858),Thomas Isaac(1860),Margaret(1862),George(1864),Elizabeth(1866),James Edward(1868),John Wesley(1872),Edith(1874),Ernest Albert(1877),Robert(1883)-adopted.
Only sibling of Annie I have is a Will Glenney.
There was a large community of Glenney's in the above area of Ontario. Some did move west to Manitoba, Sask.
Of course the spelling of Glenney varies from record to record.
Anyone have an Annie(b abt 1837) or Will in their line?
Thanks
Cheryl

the glennie mystery

Could anyone help please. I am trying to track down William Glennie born about 1890-1891 in London, Chelsea I believe. His mother was Fanny Alice. Her former name was Kilsby, but I think this was a married name and not a birth name. William is on the 1901 and 1911 census with Alice as his mother. I have not found a marriage for Fanny Alice ? and John Glennie. They may not have been married, she may have been married before. If I could find William it would solve the mystery. She did (and I have details) have 3 children. James 1894, John 1897, Margaret 1900. She died Feb. 1947 as Fanny Alice Glennie.

I grew up there and my father still lives there.

My own research has been focused on locating additional background information on my ggg grandfather Joseph Glenney, Civil War soldier, husband to Mary Jones. More to the point, their life in Canada prior to moving to Michigan.

Hi, My name is Debbie. I am a direct decentant of Joseph Glenney and Mary Jones. The Glenney name had morphed to Glennie completely by the time my grandfather Joseph William Glennie was born(1911). I grew up in Alpena, Mich. My research has hit a brick wall regarding Joseph Glenney I can't find any trace of him prior to his moving to Mich. I know he and Mary lived in Ontario but not when or where they married. Does anyone know when Joseph or his family may have moved to Canada?

I just ran across your old message from 2000. I hope this reaches you. While you were (still are?) looking for descendents of George Michie Glennie, I am trying to figure out the puzzle of the Glennies and Michies in Montana.

My grandfather's aunt, Mary Michie, immigrated to Harlowton in 1908 to be with her son, George M Glennie, after the death of her husband, James Glennie, in Scotland.

I have everything on her but the 1910 census as she is not in the household of her son, George M Glennie who is single and appears with brother(??) George and hired man John Glennie in the Meagher County census. Thereafter Mary (nee Michie) Glennie appears in the 1920 & 1930 Meagher Co MT census as a wife's widowed grandmother in the household of John and Mary Duncan.

Said son, George M Glennie was born 5 Jun 1870 in Insch, Aberdeenshire, Scotland and died according to the Montana death index 12 May 1917. I have not found a marriage for him.

Could this George M Glennie be, perhaps, the father of your George Michie Glennie, b. 23 Jan 1918, as it is well within the realm of possibility that he was "on the way" when his father died?

Mary Michie Glennie had a brother, Adam Michie, who immigrated to Ft. Collins, CO, in about 1886. His descendents still live in the area. Mary and Adam were aunt and uncle to my grandfather, William Michie, who immigrated in 1887 - first to Ft. Collins and then on to California.

Kind regards, Barry Michie

Hello Phil:
I will be mailing you a Glennie packet in the next day or two. You are the third Phil Glennie I know about. There is a Dr. Phil Glennie I met in Tucson about two years ago. His clan, although unconnected to ours at this point, is from Alpena, Michigan, as well. His father was Phillip Glennie (b.1907), son of William Glennie (b. 1880), who was the son of Francis "Frank" Glennie (b. 1849), who was the son of Joseph Glenney, who was married to Mary Jones, who was Irish. I think Judge Phil Glennie may be from this line. Joseph Glenney was the sheriff in Alpena at one time, according to Dr. Phil Glennie. I can send you copies of this as well.
Regards,
Rich Glennie

Donald Gordon Glennie

I am looking for information on the family of Donald Gordon Glennie. He was an RAF pilot during WW2. He flew a Handley Page Hampden bomber and was killed on April 8 1941 during a bombing run over Kiel Germany. This information is available, some through the Commonwealth War Dead listing, but nothing about his family or even his age. Any leads?

My James is spelled Glenney, but much too similar to ignore. He is in the 1861 Canadian census, age 41, Haldimand Township of Northumberland County, Ontario. Born Ireland according to census. Ever run across him?

My James had two sons William George and Isaac. The George name seems popular. I would like to know the address of your Missouri contact. Surely since its such an uncommon name we can sometime find a connection.
