HI Juli,
The sweet shop man you mention Arthur Kerslake, is my great-grandfather and George Paul Kerslake, my grandfather who died in 1975 and I was born in 1976. Thanks for the clarification on Charles and Maria. I thought there was an Arthur John Kerslake, after Arthur? Do you have any info about Charles and when he came to Australia and where from. This is great stuff thanks.
Cheers,
Ben (Australian, now living in Leeds, UK)
Hi Leonie,
I have a Leila Maria Kerslake (the 8th child out of 10 ).She was daughter of Thomas William Kerslake1847-1938 and Mary Ann Billing 1849-1936.She was named after Mary Ann Billing's sister Maria Billing according to my great aunt. Maria Billing Kerslake died 1882 aged 35.Perhaps her middle name was Leila.I will try to find out.Her huband was Charles Kerslake Jr.1844-1923
This Leila Kerslake died Adelaide 1965.She was born( I think) Launceston Tas.Apart from time in SA she lived most of her life in Sydney where she worked for Arthur Kerslake (her cousin) who was a sweetmaker and later on his son George Kerslake.I can send you some very good photos from 1940's to see if there is a resemblance.Juli

Anna was married to James Joseph who was from Alturas. James mother was Katherine E. (cloud) Gloster. She was my grandmother. Anna was my mother. James' father was Joe Gloster. James had 4 brothers, Paul, Dean, Vance, and Elden. Their grandparents (my great grandparents) were Catherine Elizabeth (mahoney) Gloster and Daniel Maurice Gloster. Daniel and Catherine were married in Penobscot Co. Maine in 1858 -- there is a record of that. I don't know when they arrived on the continent. I've only known my great grandparents names for a few years now. Would love to learn more. Thanks, Denise

Anna Jo Vickrey (Spearman) Gloster - Obit

No relation to me - Obituary - The Seattle Times Nov 3, 2003

Anna Jo Vickery (Spearman) Gloster; born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, as the middle child of five children. The crowded trains of World War II brought her to Seattle in late 1945 to be near her husband James Spearman who was stationed at Fort Lewis. After that marriage ended, she moved to San Francisco in early 1950 where she met and married her second husband James Gloster. Upon his death in 1962 with her children in tow she returned to Seattle where she raised her children. She remained in Seattle until her passing while in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind a large loving family of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of lifetime friends. She would say she had a good life and felt her reasons for being her had been fulfilled. The greatest regrets of her life is the loss of her husband at such a young age, leaving her children to grow up with a father, and the passing of two young gransons, John Gloster in 2000 and Jason Spearman in 2002. She felt they had gone much too soon, that they had so much more they needed to do. She is the last of her siblings and parents to pass. She gave up her final resting place next to her husband to remain in this area near her family. She will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Renton, WA near her parents. Visitation Mon 3 to 7 pm. Funeral Service Tue 11 am. both at Columbia Funeral Home.
