Daniel Jr. was my father. I have heard that he and my mother had three children, Pamela, Raymond and Darlene. I know that Raymond and Darlene (me) were put up for adoption in Chicago around 1950. I never knew about Pamela until just recently and don't know if you were raised by Daniel or our mother or if you're a half sister or what the circumstances were. Hopefully you can fill me in? My name now is Sara. Warmest regards...

Augustine Godfrey b1589 Woodnesborugh, Kent, England & Alice

Would be grateful for the lineage of Augustine Godfrey b1589 Woodnesborough, Kent, England. I have seen parents given as Thomas Godfrey & Mary Neame but with wildly differing dates & pedigrees. I'd eventually like to trace him back to Thomas Godfrey (died 1430) & Joan Tamworth. I'm researching the possible line of descent below (all of Lydd, Kent). Thanks.

Bob Foran

Augustine Godfrey b 1589 & Alice Unknown
Thomas Godfrey b 1622? & Sibyl Unknown
John Godfrey b1663 & Anne (Bass?)
John Godfrey b 1693 & Mary Strowde
Amy Godrey b1742 & Robert Cobb

My father was Daniel Jr. but I was put up for adoption at age 3 as was my brother. I used to be Darlene Godfrey; my brother was Raymond. Daniel was married to Thelma and they divorced then Thelma put us up for adoption. Illinois birth records were only recently opened and that's how I got the info on Daniel and Thelma but I have nothing else other than Daniel Sr. was my grandfather and I believe Sernea was my grandmother. I understand my father was married three times. Would this make you my sister?

Wow! You're right, we'd be second cousins. I know nothing about anything at this point. Adoption records were just opened in Illinois in November of 2011 and it took me 6 months to get a copy of my "original" birth certificate. I'm just beginning this journey. Thank you so much for anything you can provide me to fill in a lot of blanks. Regards, Sara

I will sent you a family photo of William has wife Serena and the eleven children. I need your e-mail address.

I'm Darlene, or I was anyway. My brother Raymond and I were put up for adoption when I was about 3 and Raymond almost 5. My name was changed to Sara and I never saw my brother again. I'm confused because it says the name of my mother on my original birth certificate was "Thelma", not Francis. There was a child born during our parents separation and given up immediately for adoption. That may have been Pamela. I have no information about my mother and very little about my father. I'm in my 60's now and want to know before it's too late for me so any direction you could point me in would be great. I'm especially looking for pictures. You'd be my first cousin, correct?

Darlene

You are correct about Daniel, Sr & William. William was my grandfather. My mother was Evelyn, one Dan senior's sisters.
As for Dan, Jr, I have that he had three wives 1- Dorothy Mae, one child Dorothy Mae; Francis, three children Pamela, Darlene & Raymond and lastly Lynn three children Daniel,
Kathy & David. I do not have the order or dates. I met Dan;Sr when he visited to New Jersey a couple of times. William & eight of his 11 children moved to New Jersey.

Daniel Jr. was born 10/23/19 in Massachusetts.
Daniel Jr. married Thelma Arnold while he was stationed in Kentucky around 1945. They had two children, Raymond (1945)and Darlene (me, 1947) and both children were put up for adoption in Chicago when Daniel and Thelma divorced. But I do have a small correction for your "skeleton". The town that Herbert and Jane would have been married in was "Minden" with an N.

Have you been able to locate any more info on George since you posted this 6 years ago? I would be interested in any info you may have.

Hello, Amy!

I am working on this family for my friend. I have tracked the daughters, but have had some challenges with the sons.

I can't find anything on Levirge b abt 1854; William b abt 1862; or Thomas b abt 1871 = sons of John & Thursey Godfrey and 'am interested in what you know.

I also found Monroe Godfrey's 1875 AL Death certificate. Here is his sister = Mary Isabella ["Belle"] Goodfrey Boyd's 8 Apr 1936 AL Death Certificate. I hope it is correct even though "JOHNSON" is probably a challenge to track. I have seen a couple of trees that have Thursey's last name as "Pate" - but I believe that may be "speculation" based upon the 1860 US Federal Census for John and Thursay when they lived briefly in Tishomingo Co., Mississippi. "A" John Pate [50] b al is listed with the family. It has him as "House carpenter" He may, or may NOT, be kin. [They are also on another 1860 US Federal Census in Eastern Division, Walker Co., AL [below Mary B. Boyd's DC]

"Lizzie" now makes sense for Elizabeth.
===============================================
"Alabama Deaths, 1908-1974"
Name: Mary B.
Hi Jane:
I was adopted in 1951 but born in 1947 to Daniel Edward Godfrey, Jr. of Williamstown, Massachusetts. I don't know if he is related to your family but am just curious as to my background. Does this sound familiar? Sincerely, Sara K.

Some years ago I made an inquiry concerning a member of the Godfrey family. It was at the request of my close friend, Leonard Godfrey of Acton, Massachusetts. Leonard died just this year at the age of 91. I am not related to the Godfreys. Leonard's wife, Mary, is still living in Acton.

I think Daniel E. Godfrey, Jr. is my father. I was born 11/15/47 in Illinois and Daniel was married to Thelma Godfrey at that time. All I know is that he was in the Army and from Williamstown, Massachusetts. I would love to know ANYTHING if you think this is my father.

Slow, very slow! LOL I want to take a research trip to Canada!

Check the 1861 census! Philip (the older one) and his wife Mary are living with their son John and the younger Philip is there too, but WHERE are his and the recently deceased Sarah's kids??? If I recall correctly, they had six! Sarah died in 1861 soon after the birth of Almina/Almira. Mary, the elder Philip's wife died a few years later. I did run across her date of death recently, but there was no documentation.

I've heard the elder Philip and his brother John (they do love to confuse us) were in Quebec at some point.

:)
Char

Hi Char,

I have not heard anything yet on the family reunion. How is the research coming along for you? I have been trying to figure out if Phillip Godfrey was living or working in Kingston in the early 1820's. His wife died before the 1851 census was done.

Kelly

Hi Ally,

I would love to get in touch with your Mother!

She can reach me directly at landhsanders@hotmail.com

Or I will be happy to send her a message with more details about my quest if she thinks there may be a connection.

It would be so neat to have a breakthrough in the beginning of a new year.

Many thanks for answering. Happy New Year to you....

Helen

Hi Helen,

Did you ever get a response regarding this post from Deb?

The email address she provided is no longer valid. I am her daughter; if you're still looking to get in touch, let me know.

Thanks,

Ally

Thanks for your post. I believe Garth Godfrey was my mother's cousin. Do you happen to have a copy of the photo or know where I can find it? Thanks!

Peter J N and John A Godfrey Massachusetts

I am looking for information about my great uncles Peter J N and John A Godfrey. Their parents were Peter Godfrey and Daisy Cummings. John was born around 1923 in Vermont was in a wheelchair and drowned, date unknown. Peter was born around 1921 in Vermont and died in a car crash, date also unknown. They had a brother Herbert E Godfrey that was born 1929 in Vermont and died 1984 in New Hampshire. Herbert was my grandfather. If anyone has any information about them I would be greatly appreciated. I have searched and searched and cannot find anything about these boys. Thanks so much!
Sarah
