Hi. Goode is my mother's side of the family. My grandfather was Leonard James Goode, born in Birmingham c1886 and lived in Francis Road, Hay Mills. It was quite a big family and they all lived around Birmingham area. I've traced the family further back to Worcestershire (Lower Mitton area); again it was quite a big family and they all lived close to each other. Going further back I believe the family was in Churcham in Gloucestershire. Regards, Phil.

The only photo I have from this ancestor's family is the one published in his book, Outposts of Zion.

I am his descendant through his Daughter, Martha P. who married John E Rains. Martha and John's granddaughter, Mary Grace Rains was my father's mother. I'm just getting started with this and will be on the lookout for photos.

My records indicate that Martha died in Garfield County, IT (OK) and I'm pretty sure I visited her grave when I lived in ENid in the early 80s. I may run across a photo of her headstone or perhaps my dad has one. I'll have him check.

Dave

From the Mobile,Alabama Newspaper

Saturday, Dec. 23, 1911
• "Dr. Rhett Goode, for nearly forty years one of Mobile's leading physicians and surgeons, closed his eyes as if in sleep and passed peacefully into the Great Beyond at 10:45 o'clock Friday morning at his home, 60 St. Emanuel street. The cause of death was acute Bright's disease, and although he had not been in the best of health for some time past, his trouble was aggravated by a severe cold, following exposure on a trip to Gulfport."

Born in Mobile in 1852, the doctor was the son of a cotton factor. He graduated from medical school in Mobile, and opened his practice in 1872, specializing in surgery, and served as dean of the medical school, the newspaper said.

He took charge of Mobile's quarantine service, especially during yellow fever outbreaks, and had served as a city alderman. He had also been city health officer, as well as county physician. In addition, he was a member of a number of professional, mystic(Mardi Gras)organizations.

Not my line, just sharing.

Hello Wilma,
Do you have information about the Goodes that lived at Crab Orchard? My great grandmother was Nancy Jane Good, whose father was Lorenzo Dow Good. For some reason the spelling was changed to Good, this is what is on his gravemarker. He was married to Elizabeth Camden. His father was Joseph C. Goode who was married to Nancy Combs, and Joseph's father was Benjamin who married a Campbell I believe. I would really like to find some of the descendants that are related to Nancy Jane Good Morris. Thank you for your assistance.
Blessings,
Emily

Rhett Goode and wife celebrate 25 yrs, Mobile, Alabama 1911

From the Mobile, Alabama Newspaper

Tuesday, Oct. 17, 1911:

• "Handsome invitations, bearing their crest have been issued by Dr. Rhett Goode and Mrs. Goode, inviting their friends for Saturday evening ... at their home, 60 St. Emanuel street." The celebration was honoring their silver wedding anniversary.

"Aside from the interest awakened by the receipt of the invitations yesterday was their delivery -- just as it happened twenty-five years ago when a carriage drove up to the door and a coachman in full livery with cards on a silver waiter left them at the door of those honored by Dr. and Mrs. Goode."

Not my line, just sharing.

My great-great grandfathers sister Mary Keeffe(O'Keeffe)married a John Goode in Boston in 1865. They had at least 5 children. They were both from Ireland. I have been researching the Goode family. Johns parents were Joseph Goode and Bridget Murray. I would be interested in learning more about the Goode family.I don't know what happened to GJohns brother Tom. Do you know what happened to John and Marys son Joseph born about 1866,son John born about 1883 and daughter Lillian Goode Riley born about 1877?

Brian O'Keefe

bokeefe6449@att.net

Sandra, you and I corresponded 5-6 years ago re a mutual ancestor, Mary Ann Brown. You concluded that we were not related; however, according to records compiled by a genealogist cousin of mine, Mary Ann was my grandmother Maggie Lou Brown's sister. They also had a sister Martha who was burned up in a fire at a young age (not recorded). The sisters were Mary, Maggie, and Martha. Of grandma Maggie's daughters (Martha, Lovie, Inell, Maudie, Cecilia, Margie, Chloe) Chloe is my mother. Mary and Martha are their aunts and Lank and Barlow are their cousins. I have a pix of Barlow somewhere in my files. Mom relayed stories of my great-grandfather/grandmother's (Rev. Thomas and Nancy Obedience Brown)lives in Beaumont. Aunt Martha mentioned that Aunt Mary and her family had lived in or around Beaumont but that she thought some of their family may have relocated. Did you ever find any relatives of Johnny B? I know you were searching when we last corresponded

They were the parents to one son. There may have been other children; he may have been the only child. He was born some time between 1888 and 1892. He went to live with McCoy family members in Barren County, Kentucky. By 1910 he was living in Washington State.

WHAT happened to this couple?!?
I am related to Helena Goode who died very young in 1878. She was born 1850 in Ireland. One younger brother James was also born in Ireland 1851. Her youngest Bernard was born 1856 on the ship while coming from Cork Ireland.
Cork was a major city from which people departed so I am not certain the family was from that area.
Parents were Martin Goode and Frances Beatty. Family lived in New York City until at least the above children relocated to Corktown in Detroit.
Helena (my g-g grandmother) died after giving birth to my great grandfather in 1878.
I have never been able to find that James married and had any family. Bernard married Elizabeth Ames and I know of the following children: Helen 1884, William 1888, Frances 1886, Mary 1890, Madeline 1892 and Bernard Ames 1897

According to Jesse's son, Jesse Houchin's obit, Jesse's father was not Charles, but William, and William's father was John. See the following:

Jesse Houchin was born in Pike County, Ohio, November 10, 1825, died September 17, 1905, making his age 79 years, 10 months and 7 days. He was of Scotch and Welsh ancestry, but for three generations preceding him his paternal ancestors were natives of Virginia. His father, Jesse Houchin, was born in Amhurst county, Virginia June 10, 1770 (married Mary Ann Goode); his grandfather, William Houchin, was born in Buckingham county, as was also his great grandfather, John Houchin.

Just wanted to clarify.
