I am looking for decendants of Col. Melville S. Gooderham. Artifacts relating to Col. Gooderham have been found and the recipients may be interested in talking to you (or possibly sharing the documents). I am a descendant of George H. Gooderham which would make us 3rd cousins I think.

Gay Gooderham

Hi Andrea
I live in Berkshire. My own email address is
ssteevenson@aol.com if you want to write separately.
We should swap information shouldn't we? I would love to see your photos particularly of Emma as she is the one I am closely related to. My family history programme worked out that Emma and I are 1st cousins three times removed. It also tells me that Reginald and I are 2nd cousins two times removed.
I should think you will need a printer that also scans in documents if you want to send photos by email.
Good to hear from you again,
Stephanie

Are you related to Bertha, their 6th child, as that is the line I have been in contact with.
I descend from Ephraim's sister Hannah GOODERHAM who married John ROBERTS in Fritton in 1844 and had 11 children, one of them my great grandfather Stephen.
Super to hear from you,
Stephanie

I have 2 John Gooderhams in my line...one son of Henry (Harry) Gooderham (my g.g.grandgather). Henry/Harry was born in 1824 in Fritton, Norfolk. Henry/Harry's son John was born in 1868 in Morning Thorpe, just south of Norwich, Norfolk.

Henry/Harry Gooderham also had a grandfather John Gooderham whom I'm trying to trace. He apparently could have been born in Thraston, Norfolk, VA, USA about 1765.

I don't know if either of these connect to your line.
Tricia M

I haven't posted to this message board for some time, so trying again. I have three Ephraim males in my tree and it is a fairly distinctive first name. Ephraim GOODERHAM (1) born 1805 married Lucy Ann ELVIN, Fritton in Norfolk. Ephraim (2) born 1832 married Mary Ann WALLER, Depwade district Norfolk. Ephraim (3) born 1837 but died in 1852 in Fritton.
Is anyone connected to (1) or (2)?
Stephanie

Hi Simon,
Thanks for your reply.
I gave up my ancestry search on my mother's side a while back as I had no further leads, so it was a great surprise to find a reply to my posting from a couple of years back. I think I will have to revive my Ancestry.com membership. I was not aware that John Gooderham had a sister, Amelia. With the link to Damaris Tappenden I am sure to be related to your wife. John Gooderham, son of John and Damaris was my mother's grandfather. He married Johanna Baron in Cape Town and they had 5 children John (who emigrated to the UK), Sarah (my grandmother), Margaret and Ruth. Another child Dorothy died in infancy. John Gooderham who returned to the UK married Muriel adopted 2 children. They used to visit us often when he was still alive - he passed away about 20 years ago. I'll have to pull out my notes and I'll have a chat to my Mother on the weekend. My direct e-mail address is vanmoat@yahoo.co.uk if you would like to contact me directly. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Janet

Hi 'moatvan',

I am currently doing my wife's tree and came across your post. John GOODERHAM (1853 - 1930) did indeed marry Damaris TAPPENDEN in Norwich 1877. One of their daughters was Amelia GOODERHAM (born 1883) and she married a Charles CLARE (1884 - 1920) who was my wife's grandfather. Are you related to my wife ?

We know nothing about Amelia's brother John Gooderham's move to SA but would love to find out.

Simon

Family of Godfrey Gooderham of Norfolk, England

Godfrey Gooderham (c.1735-1812) married Elizabeth Gobbett (c.1725-1788) at Redenhall, Norfolk, in 1756. The wills of Godfrey and his sons John (c.1758-1830) and James (c.1767-1829) of Great Yarmouth were proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC). Abstracts are available at TNA's "Your Archives" website (see http://yourarchives.nationalarchives.gov.uk/index.php?title=...).

James Gooderham was a draper and tailor at Halesworth, Suffolk, until 1814, when the business was taken over by his cousin Daniel Gobbett. I've posted fuller details of their connection on the Gobbett Family History & Genealogy Message Board (http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/surnames.gobbett/16/mb.ashx).

David Gobbitt

Sorry don't know Gooderham, but my ancestor was John Acheson born 1798 Ireland. Part of the family move to The Isle of Man where my grandmother Ellen Jane was born.1863 The family reported many years ago before I became interested in Ancesry, that Gran was a distant cousin to Dean Acheason. They then moved to Liverpool england where I was born I gather that part of the Acheson family left Ireland and settled in IOM and others went to America and Canada.

William George Gooderham - obit - Toronto/Oakville, Ontario

Globe and Mail, Toronto, Ontario – November 8, 2001

GOODERHAM, William George

Bill passed away from cancer on November 5, 2001 at the age of 77. Husband of 50 years to his beloved Nancey; gentle father to Gerry, Pat, Susan, Jane and Mary; wonderful grandfather and father-in-law. Remembered for his quiet dedication to family, dry humour, soft spirit and deep love of the outdoors, Bill was born in Toronto on August 11, 1924 and lived in Oakville, Ontario. After serving in the Armed Forces during WWII, he attended the University of Toronto and graduated with Honours in Forestry in 1951. He was best known as the owner-manager of Camp Chimo on Lake Temagami in Northern Ontario. Started in 1926 by his father, Gordon S. Gooderham, Chimo for 50 years was one of the province's premier fishing resorts, and on two occasions hosted Canada's Governors General. Bill continued to enjoy summers with friends and family in Temagami and winters in Oakville in the home that he built on Lake Ontario. There, he worked as an accountant at Cheney, Glenn and Graydon.

My grandmother's maiden name was Gooderham. Her father had come from England to fight in the 2nd Boer War. He met and married my great grandmother here in SA. My grandmother's brother, John Matthias emigrated to the UK when he was in his early 20s and died there in about 1995. My grandmother's grandfather (I think his name was also John) married Damaris Tappendum (not sure of the spelling). Does anyone have any information?

Dan are you still looking for Gooderham contacts? My family are from Norfolk, but I feel sure are related to the Suffolk Gooderhams. My earliest is John GOODERHAM marrying Mary WARNES in about 1799 and having 7 children all born in Fritton Norfolk.
Stephanie

Tricia: We met in the Metropolitan Archives in London in 2004 and I have tried to find the information you sought on Harry Thompson Giddy ever since. I was finally able to find a small mention of his passing in The Galveston News, Sunday December 21, 1947 and it said: "Dec. 14 -- Harry T. Giddy. 58, male, United States Marine Hospital, artieriosclerotic heart disease." I was also able to find out that the Galveston County, Probate & County Clerk's Office (409.766.2200) does have a copy of Harry's death certificate and his burial place is listed on that certificate. Unfortunately, that information is not public until 75 years after death and only a direct family member can gain access. What would you like me to do?

Hi Charlene
I have found records with all three names..and branches of the family with all three names..Goodram and Goodreham in England and elsewhere, Goodrum here in the States and Canada. Do you know where in England your family came from? I know of the Gooderhams in Ontario, your the first that I have had contact with. Several Goodrehams from my line ended up in South Africa and Australia. I'll be glad to try and help..
Dan Goodrum
Illinois, USA
