Re: Sarah Partin Goodson/Thomas Goodson Marion County Tennessee

I found Thomas Goodson in the 1850 and 1860 Census living in Bledsoe County Tennessee. On the 1850 Census he is living in the household of his mother, Sarah, which I believe is the wife of Thomas Goodson (1840 Bledsoe County Census). On the 1840 census living in the household of Thomas are the following: 1 male 10-14 (Thomas), 3 males 15-19 (Isaac, not sure of the other two), 1 female 5-9. On the 1850 Census Thomas is married to Elizabeth, and 1860 Census (Marion County) Thomas is listed with Elizabeth on the same page as his brother Issac. Isaac is on the 1850 Warren County Census. Thomas and Isaac, sons of Isaac, were both married in March 1872 in Sequatchie County Tennessee and I think that the married sisters (same last name). I hope this will be helpful to you If you have not found this information. I am still trying to find the marriage record for John/Sarah Partin and Thomas/Sarah Goodson.

Peggy

Re: Alabama Goodson

Christina, my grandfather is Greenberry Goodson who was born and raised in Walker County Georgia. His son, Barney Felton Goodson, had a son named Green Berry Goodson who was named after grandfather Goodson. Uncle Barney was born in Walker County, Georgia and later lived in Gadsden, Alabama which is in Etowah County where he passed away. It is my understanding that his son, Green Berry(called G.B.) moved to Arkansas later in his life and I assume he passed away there. My Mother, Mary Birtis Goodson Crawford, is the daughter of Greenberry Goodson and the sister of Barney Felton Goodson. Grandfather Goodson was a Miller at Berry School(now Berry College) in the 20's and 30's and passed away while living there in 1940. He died in Rome, Georgia, Floyd County. Does this help? We could be related. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the response.

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. From what I gather from the census reports. There were two Jame Monroe Goodson's born in the 1850's in Alabama. My relative was born in 1850 in Jefferson County, we have been told. The other one was born in 1858 I believe.

My relative J.M. Goodson worked in the streets division of Jefferson County probably in the 1870's and moved to Coffee County shortly thereafter (1880?) My grandfather was born in Elba, Coffee County in 1883.

We have heard that these Goodson's are of Scoth-Irish descnet and moved down from north Carolina-South Carolina to Alabama. I also have one account that they came from Georgia. No one really knows.

I am hoping that since William Henry Goodson is supposed to be his brother and they don't know his father either that maybe eventually we can find a parent with the children James Monroe from 1850 and William Henry from 1843 (I think). So far no luck, but we'll keep looking.

Again thanks for taking the time to respond.

Richard

Mattie is a nickname for Martha. This is all of the information I have on James Monroe and Martha Davis Goodson.

His parents were James Goodson and Rachel Ratcliff.

I also have another line of Goodsons, as two Goodsons married each other Gafayette Co. AR (later to become Miller Co.,) Willis Marshall Goodson born 29 Jul 1834 in Franklin Co., MS, died 17 Sept. 1917 (I don't know the place) and Mary Ann Goodson born in 1852 in Autauga Co., AL, died 1890, I don't have the place.

I do have an Arthur Goodson who is unmarried.

I have a James Monroe Goodson, born 18 Oct 1858 in Perkins Co., AL. His parents were William Newton Goodson, born on 08 Mar. 1835 in GA, no death date. He was married on 07 Feb. 1858 probably in Pickens Co., AL. to Neoma Cheek Garvin, born 11 Jul 1839 in Pickens Co., AL, no death date for her.

If this is the one you are looking for, he had 9 siblings.

I don't have an answer to your question, but according to one of your relatives (Mattie Goodson), my great-great grandfather James Monroe Goodson and William Henry "Billy" Goodson were brothers. We don't know who the father is.

My guess is that most of the Goodon's in Coffee County/Pike County and Geneva County are all related. The question is who was the first families to settle that area?

I am also am a descendant of James Monroe Goodson (DOB:1850)of Alabama. We do not know who his parents are, but it had been rumored that we are of Scotch-Irish descent. It is also speculated that we came to Alabama by way of S.C., N.C. and Virginia.

There are a slew of Goodsons that settled in the SE corner of Alabama in the early 1800's. My feeling is that since there are so many Goodson's concentrated in the area, we are all related in some fashion.

The James Goodson that you mention could be his father's father, his father or a brother of his father. We are desperately looking for a James Goodson born in 1850 that is related to nay other Goodson.

I'm close to connecting some dots concerning the Thomas Goodson you have listed. My great, great grandfather was Thomas H Goodson. I believe he is listed on that same census page you are refering to as being a field laborer at the adjacent farm to Thomas and Sarah Goodson. I know they must be related but have not put them together yet. Maybe we can pool what we each have and break this mystery.

Hello,
Martha J Goodson is my ggg grandmother, she married F (Montraville or Monte Patton. He was from Buncombe North Carolina & I suspect his line may have been through Col John Patton of Buncombe, one of the 1st settelers. I am trying to trace this line also. There is another Montraville Patton born the same year and also married a Martha j but he was Moses Montraville and moved to Missouri. Our Montravile was a F. Montravile. It can really get confusing! Martha's parents were Thomas Goodson & Matilda Ellison. Hope that helps. Jenny
