My Goodwill family appears to have both the names of the Goodwill children you were looking for. They are the brothers Francis Goodwill and John William Goodwill. John Wm Goodwill is my grandfather born 16th Jan 1886 in Great Barugh, Pickering, Yorkshire England...later married my grandmother Ruth Ford and emigrated to Canada Apr 3, 1912.
If this is the ifo you are looking for, please e-mail for more information. Thank You.. Robert Goodwill, Canada

It's always heart-breaking to see the grave of a child. Because of confidentiality, I cannot share with you the names of his living parents in this forum, but his grandfather was also Norman Dale Goodwill, son of Alva and Adelia Millard Goodwill. For more, see my Rootsweb site: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...
Alva was born in western Pennsylvania, if that helps you.

My card file includes thousands of Goodwills, and I'd be glad to look up any name that people want. As for the West Virginia Goodwills, I have photos of Phillip's house in Bramwell (it's also a wooden collectible by Shelia)and I took photos of the Goodwill graves near there, as well as those in Shamokin. Sharing helps all of us, so I'm happy to share whatever I have.

Sorry but I dont think we have a match. My Goodwill starts with the illegitimate birth of John Goodwill in Whitby in 1829. His mother was Mary who later married a John Newman. She claims her father to be William a farmer m Cloughton.
John had two families. The first by his wife Sarah Nunn, the second after her death by Harriett Thomas. He was a joiner and ended up in the Manchester region. So the places are right. My Frank was John's grandson born 1884. I think that the message must have been posted before I realised I was following the wrong set of Goodwills. Happy hunting Pauline

She was unmarries and the baby was raised in Manchester by someone I assume was a relative as his middle name is Goodwill.
Jill

Message for all Goodwill researchers

My name is Thomas J. Goodwill, and I keep an index card file of thousands of Goodwills. Most are in the United States, but I have also been researching Great Britain.

My ancestor is John Goodwill who "came from Wales", which may or may not be true. I've been trying to link him with our British cousins to continue the line. You can see what I have on Rootsweb:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...

(Please note that the Rootsweb site also includes many Goodwills who are not in my own line. I want to share all available Goodwill data with anyone who is looking).

Because I expanded my research to include Great Britain, I would be most interested in receiving family information for all British Goodwills, and am willing to share whatever I have. I have copied the census (Britain and United States) for all Goodwills, and have them in a database (FileMaker) that allows me to search by names, dates, locations.

I am notified whenever someone posts on this site, but if you would like to correspond directly, my email address is tgoodwill@earthlink.net here in Florida.

I have an original carte de visite photograph of “Harriet Bigelow Gates Goodwill”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1870, in Fitchburg (Worcester Co.) MA.

I found Harriet in the 1870 census for Petersham (Worcester Co.), as wife of Samuel Harrison Gates (verified by OWT for son Gilbert Harrison Gates, her son), who lived with them, age 3. Harriet was age 34. In 1880 census, Harriet was age 44, living with son Gilbert H., age 14 in Barre (Worcester Co.). By 1900, she was Hattie G. Goodwill, living in Worcester, wife of Edgar B. Goodwill. I also have two photos of Gilbert Harrison Gates, taken 1885 and 1888.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Harriet Bigelow Gates Goodwill.

Brian, thank you for your e-mail. It's good to hear from another Goodwill (possibly a family member). I am just beginning my research into our family. We found my father's cousin living in Marske, Yorkshire and his son David Goodwill also lives in the same city. David Goodwill had e-mailed indicating that my grandfather worked in the mines also. I have found out that my Goodwill grandparents lived, worked & had their children (my aunts) born in Boosbeck, Lingdale area with marriages in Marske Churches & burials in the Boosbeck graveyards.....I have more specific dates if you wish them? What is the names of your relatives living in Sault Ste. Marie?

from Robert Goodwill
Fort Erie, Ontario,
Canada L2A 6G9
Hi, my name is Brian Goodwill 8/7/58. My father was Robert Goodwill bn 1910. He was an iron stone miner at the age of 11yrs working at pit bottom near Lingdale. He had family in Boosbeck, Skelton Saltburn etc.
I have just began to research my family history and have obtained a video relating to the iron stone miners in the area.
The Goodwill family I am related to were tin miners in Cornwall until the mines ran dry. Once iron stone had been found in the Eston hill, people moved to join a work party to create, the then largest iron stone mining industry in the world.
My father worked in the mine of the Pease family.
My father had a brother, James who was a singer in the local music halls and known as the "Silver tongued Pit Boy"
They often performed together and were highly revered in the local community.
Father married Kathleen Mavourine Godfrey Bn 1919 whose father was a regimental sgt mjr in the KOYLI's at the battle of the Somme. He survived and returned short of a finger.Kathleen's name was chosen from a popular song of the time.
On looking at my wifes family tree, we have learned that her grandfather was also a KOYLI (Kings own yorkshire light infantry) in the same place at the same time?
I would warmly welcome any association with my family history or advice.
I have family in Saulte st marie Canada.
Many thanks, Brian.
