GOODWIN ALFRED BORN 1860 SOUTHWARK, SURREY LONDON

Hi,

Can anyone help please. I have been researching my Goodwin side for over 40 years and would like to know if anyone can help. I have found that Mary Goodwin had her son ALFRED who was born 1860 at 38 Charlotte Street, Southwark, Surrey, and have just discovered that it was an unmarried mother's home run by a 36 year old City Missionary called George Porter and his wife Jane both from Sevenoaks, Kent. Family story says that the Goodwin family of Mary's father Edward Goodwin came from Kent, and as young Alfred went on to join the East Kent Regiment - The Buffs - at the age of 20, I wondered if because of this the story of Kentish origins could be true.
Mary Goodwin is the big question mark in this whole story all I know of her origins is that she was the daughter of Edward (his name is on her marriage certificate) - she was norn in Ilford, Essex, C1837 and was iving at the time of the 1851 Census in Lewisham with her brother Edward, who I know to be the son of Edward Goodwin senior and his wife Susannah.
Does this ring any bells with the English side of the family please?
Hope to hear from someone with any suggestions.
Thanks

Maggie (Margaret) Andersen nee Goodwin/Brand

Goodwins - Frank P. Goodwin,Edward Goodwin, Richard Goodwin,Mass, Amesbury to Hampton N.H

I am trying to find others who might have any information to help me get the information I have correct.
This all comes from documents handed down.
A Frank P. Goodwin wrote in 1912 that, as far as we know, the first member of our branch of the family, "Edward Goodwin", came to Massachuetts abt 1660. He was a ship carpenter, living at Salisbury,Mass. as early as 1665. He later moved to Amesbury,Mass where the Goodwins lived for three generations. This Frank is quiet certain that Simeon's father was "Richard", who moved from Amesbury to Hampton, N.H. after 1719, and remained there until his death in 1768.
I have found that others have Simeon's father as John Goodwin b.16 Sep 1709 d.abt 1768 and John's father as "Richard Goodwin" b.1684 d. 5 Mar 1768. If this is correct then Simeon's grandfather is Richard and his g-grandfather is "Edward Goodwin".
Anyone who might have any information would be great to hear from.
Thank You
Donna Dahl
Daughter of an American Revolutionary Soldier!

Thomas George Goodwin was born to Ralph Goodwin and Annie Lequard in 1925 and had several sibblings. He also served in the Marine corps. in the Fl. area during his youth, I remeber bulldog tattoo's on his arms regarding his service. He was my grandfather and I am trying to find some of his family that I do not know or have not seen since I was a child, any help would be appreciated.

I fall down Alvira's line and have a great deal of information there, but would love to hear from someone who is a descendant from one of the other children. I am very interested in finding Sally Dudley's parentage also. She was born 1810 in Clinton county, NY and died 1893 in Winnebago County, IL. There is some connection with her and the Caswell surname from NY, for she had in her possession a photo from Ambrose B. Caswell, her nephew, who is son of Esra, and a photo of Mariah Caswell-Willcox who is a sister of Ezra.

Hi All,

I traced my ancestry back to this ancestor.
Who lived in Boston. Buried at Copp's Hill, Massachusetts.

I saw that there was a blurb about John Goodwin
and the salem witch trials. "He removed to Boston, where four of his children in 1688, being possessed with a spirit of childish mischief, sadly perplexed and befooled Cotton Mather, so as to cause Mrs. Glover, the washerwoman, to be convicted of a deal with the devil, and hanged, as in his Magnalia [396—403] is told. By these infant instructors the learned author was adequately prepared for the honors he gained in the doleful tragedies of 1692, enacted at Salem."
Originally from James Savage, Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers, Vol. 2, p. 277.

Does anyone know anything about this. I think it is fascinating to think that an ancestor might have been part of the most infamous witch hunt in history!

Also I want to send out a warning. Take the info on OneWorldTree with a grain of salt. I mistakenly had added Goodwin ancsestors only to do research later on that proved that a two child family was really an only child. (Will was made out to a daughter.) And then reading two genealogy books where the writer confessed that the couple only had one child.

-Ian M.

My GGGrandmother Sarah Elizabeth Goodwin was born ca.1833 in Earl Sterndale, Derbyshire to John and Mary Goodwin. I have no info on her mother's maiden name. I do have a photograph, taken in California, on the back it reads. To Sarah Elizabeth Arland (married name), from her cousin Emmie Gyte. Who were the Gytes and how are they related to Sarah Elizabeth? I believe Sarah Elizabeth may have traveled to the U.S. with them, possibly after the death of her parents.

She was briefly married to a William Neal Lilly and then to Avery Smith. Her Father was Warren L Goodwin (b. abt 1876 in Georgia) and her mother was Mary A Goodwin. Her siblings were Dorothy, Warren, Hazel, Ralph, and Gladys. I have found one census record of them living in Anniston, Alabama in 1930 but nothing else.

I have reached a dead end with this line and all interested parties are now deceased.

Any help is appreciated...

Kyle H Smith

We are decendant from Francis Goodwin so these children could be from any of those branches.

I will post more as I dig through these boxes..

Thanks

Katherine

Looking for information

about descendants of RITA ADA GOODWIN, born Carlton Victoria 1908, and CLAUDE REGINALD BRENTNALL PEARSON, born 1886, Derbyshire UK., died aged 94 in 1981.

I don't know what happened to Rita, nor her mother, Emma Louise Goodwin (nee McGrath).

Rita and Claude had a son who married a McCOLL-JONES.

The PEARSON son in turn had a daughter who married a SMITH.

I believe that some of these people are still alive and living in Melbourne.

Rita Ada Goodwin was my father's (Charles Finley Goodwin) first cousin. They never met unfortunately.

My Grandfather was Charles Frederick Goodwin who died in 1919 when my father was only a few months old.

Rita's father was William Walter GOODWIN and her mother was Emma Louise McGRATH. William Walter Goodwin died in France in 1917. He was awarded the Military Medal.

Claude Pearson's father was James Brentnall PEARSON and his mother was Mary BOWLEY.

Rita Ada Goodwin's grandparents (William George Thomas GOODWIN and Elizabeth DAWES) came from NZ in the early 1890's.

Originally they came from England in the 1860's.

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon a Public Family Tree on Ancestry.com which was from a "Pearson or a Smith family", looking for informaation about William Walter Goodwin. I have been unsuccessful in trying to contact this family as they did not provide an email address.

Any help, suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

GRAEME CHARLES GOODWIN

I believe I may have located the grave of Major James Goodwin who may be the first Goodwin in America and my ggggreatgrandfather and namesake. He was born London, England in 1625, emigrated to Virginia 1640, was a major in the militia and a delegate to the House of Burgeesses from York County, VA. Died 1678. May be buried in the tomb of first wife, Rachael Goodwin. I would like to confirm his remains and have a proper marker placed at the site. If anyone is interested in helping with time or money, please let me know. Jeff Goodwin

Anna Goodwin, England - NY

Looking for info on Anna Goodwin who, according to the William Ward Wight book, was born 19 Nov 1827 in England and married Levi Wight in Henrietta, NY on 27 Oct 1846. My g-aunt insisted Anna's maiden name was Perrin. A family document has a note saying Anna's mother died shortly after giving birth on board the ship bringing them to the US and Anna was adopted by a family named Perrin. I skimmed ship passenger lists for 1827 some time back, but didn't see anything I thought corroborated this story.

Thanks,

Dave

Is there anyone who has a relation called Hilda?
Her maiden name was Goodwin, however I don't know what her married name is if she did get married.
Her estimate birth year is from 1920 - 1924.
I don't know much about her. I don't know where she was born but I would imagine she was British as she gave birth to my father in Newcastle Upon Tyne in December 1945.
I think this event was kept quiet, so if there is a relation called Hilda but you have no memory of her having a child called David Michael Goodwin and then having him adopted, please still get in contact as it still could be her.

Thanks!

Ashleigh
