Hi Jackie!
I was looking for my great-grandmother, Bridget Dugan Moran, and found her on your tree. I think you have her attached to the wrong John Moran. His birth and death dates are right, but not the places, his parents, or other spouses listed. The John Moran that Bridget Dugan married was the son of Patrick Moran and Bridget Grelish (also spelled Grealish, Greally, Greely), born 1 Feb 1874 in Galway, Ireland, and died 23 October 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Hopefully this helps you in some way!

Katie Moran

Goodwin and Moody families

Hello,

I am looking for any descendants or relatives of Dr. Henry Timrod Goodwin. He was married to Anna Moody, niece of the 19th century evangelist, Dwight L. Moody. I believe they lived in Georgia--perhaps in the area of Savannah. They are supposed to have had just one child, Dr. George Munro Goodwin, b. 24 Oct 1887, died 12 July 1947. Dr. George's children were Edith D. Goodwin, b. 16 April 1917; Katherine Munro Goodwin, b. 25 May 1918; and Anne Moody Goodwin, b. 25 Feb 1924. Dr. Goodwin seems to have been related to a poet named Henry Timrod.

I'd like to get in touch with any of their descendants or relatives. I am descended from Anna Moody's sister, Gertrude Moody Zimmerman.

Hope to hear from someone.

Charlene

Hi Howard

I found Edward and his parents in addition to his wife Sallie A Sterner. Edward and wife Sallie are both buried at Greenlawn Cemetary in Lansdale Montgomery Co Pa...The Stella you mentioned before was their daughter its turned out...I found her and compared the Death Cert. address to the 1910 census and they were a match. :) (moms Sallie's name was spelled wrong.
Also I found Edward and Sallie's marriage certificate on "Family Search" where it lists both of their parents first names only but its been a great clue...Dad to Edward was William H and mother was Catherine....Sallie's Dad Reuben (and I think its spelled wrong on the site) and mom was Serinia...but no maiden names are listed for their moms...
Thanks for all your help I thought I would never get this info...:)

Ann

Goodwins of Wivenhoe, Essex, UK

I am searching for the relatives of my great, great grandfather Cornelious Ladbrook Goodwin who was a deaf sailmaker from the small port of Wivenhoe in Essex. His family seems to have been well established within that town, being mainly connected to seafaring and boatbuilding. Two of his own sons were in fact Master-mariners. However around 1872, for reasons I have been unable to discover, Cornelious (then aged 45), his wife (b. Louisa Newman) and all their 'grown-up' children left Wivenhoe and re-settled in the northern industrial town and seaport of Middlesbrough,Yorkshire. Seemingly they all left their Essex family 'network' behind for good. My mother, Hilda May Goodwin who was born in 1925 (d.1973), just 50 years after the family's arrival in Middlesbrough, she certainly had not an inkling of the Wivenhoe connection and yet her own grandfather (also Cornelious) was born in that town. It was as though all memory of the place had been deliberately erased. The more curious aspect of my research was to find in 1901 that the deaf sailmaker, Cornelious Snr. was living in the Hartlepool Workhouse, whilst his wife was living 20 miles away, with her unmarried son on the opposite side of the River Tees. Sadly their other son Cornelious Jnr, died of bronchitis, contracted 'whilst working on the river' in 1902. His mother died the same year (of dementia) and Cornelious Snr eventually succumbed in 1906 whilst still residing in the same Workhouse. It would appear that the move north, rather than improving family-fortunes, had proved disappointing and almost tragic. Are there any Goodwins still living around Wivenhoe to this day? It would certainly be good to discover if any of them have the slightest idea as to why my branch of the family 'left town' and the comparative security of an extended group of relatives.

I had originally thought that Samuel Porter and Elnora Rudolph were the parents of John W. Porter but later found that their son was John Wesley Porter and not John William Porter; ref: "A Geneology of the Porter Family of Maryland, W. Va, and Michigan" by John Doak Porter. I have since found an 1860 census record from King George county Virgina that shows a James Porter (b.1805) with 3 children one of which is John W. Porter whom I believe to be my ggrandfather. I have not found anything further. Thank you for your response.
Buzz Fredrickson
It's been a long time since you posted this, but I see from your profile that you still visit...

I am researching my family tree and have a death certificate for my 2nd great grandmother -

lucy ann helms
b. 6 mar 1831 St George,charlotte, New Brunswick
d. 27 feb 1920 Northumberland, Coos, New Hampshire

Her death certificate lists Sarah Goodwin as her mother - the place of birth is two letters - the first could be either a U or N - second is S. So either N.S.or U.S. Looking it it, I think N.S. It is here ;

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11687-3075-98?c...

I am also interested in finding the father of Sarah. If you have image of letter documenting your ? goodwin is a loyalist - I would be interested in having a scanned copy of it - I am also a member of the united empire loyalist assn and wish to document any loyalist - particularly those that they don't have in their database.

If he was a loyalist and came during the great migration in the early 1780s then he probably would have received a land grant. Some of these can be found in the canadian archives - others in the new brunswick archives (both have some records on-line).

I have a book "Early New Brunswick Canada Probate Records" where a James Goodwin is listed 3 times in different probate records (witness and helping value an estate)- these are from the 1810-1820 timeframe. It could be your James that you have listed and born in 1784. Or maybe his father? (your ? Goodwin?).

Have you found out any more since you posted this is 2007?

Thanks
Jeff

I am a descendent of John Goodwin's daughter Amanda Goodwin Liston Wiles McKay (1850-1927). My grandmother was her daughter Flora Olive Liston Cooley

I am also descended from Asa Llewellen/ Hannah Britt through their daughter, Ruth, who married Richard Cooley, fathered Rachel Cooley Davis who was the mother of George FP Cooley, my greatgrandfather. Any information on the Britts or Goodwins? Thank you

Susan Cooley

Michael Goodwin, possible descendant of Daniel

Hi Karen,

I am researching Michael Goodwin b. 1809 in Calais, ME or possibly nearby in Canada. There was a John with 5 children in Calais on the 1810 census and also a John who signed a petition for the nearby town of Baileyville. I'm trying to map out whether he was Michael's father or whether Michael possibly decended from one Daniel's 11 boys from your family tree. So far, I haven't come across a single Michael in my research however. If you have any information that could help, please let me know. Thanks so much!

Actually BARBARA/BARBARY(mnu) GOODWIN was living in the household of her daughter CAROLINE GOODWIN MOWERY, not CORNELIUS MOWERY. Her husband JOHN MOWERY died before 1850. CAROLINE lived next door to ISAAC AVERY THOMPSON & his wife JERUSHA GOODWIN. Don't know why Jerusha was listed as "Senecia" in 1850 census, likely a census taker's mistake. The children are the same in subsequent census records, so I am certain this is the family of ISAAC AVERY THOMPSON.

JERUSHA was also likely a daughter of BARBARA/BARBARY (mnu) GOODWIN.

I am a THOMPSON descendant, but I have researched both the GOODWIN & MOWERY/MOUREY family in Bradley Co TN as they were all intermarried.

Thanks, Robert! I did find her on Ancestry..love the title of her tree, 'MissingLinks' :) I messaged her and had a look at her tree. Now I have to look up the towns that are mentioned and see where they are in relation to Llanbadarn Fawr. Between the almost impossible (to me) to pronounce town names...and the 'everyone's named John, Mary or Evan' nature of the names...Wales is proving a healthy challenge :) Loving meeting fellow searchers on the way :) Take care...Ann

Hi Ann, I am related to James Goodwin born 1834 in Radnorshire. He married Jane Craig and his brother Edward Goodwin married Margaret Craig. Edward and Margaret Goodwin went to Australia, Sydney in 1853 and James and Jane Goodwin went to Australia in 1855 on the sailing ship KATE.
On the 20th August 1959 the left Australia and sailed for New Zealand. They landed at Port Cooper. In 1859 they brought land at Pigeon Bay and both brother's took up farming there. My gg grandfather and mother James and Jane Goodwin came to Taranaki and took up farming here at Midhurst in 1870. Ann you have many Goodwin cousins here in New Zealand.

All the best for now.
Robert.

Hi Alice, Yes your Mary dose link in with my goodwin line in Radnorshire, Wales. There is a book put out by Dr James Wetter, The book is called ( A HISTORY OF THE GOODWIN FAMILY ) discovering Welsh roots. It is a good book.

Robert
NZ.

Hi there! I know you were addressing your query to Robert...but since it's taken me three years to find these posts, I figured I'd better get my questions in while I can :) I'm very interested in your Goodwin line...and whether you've traced any of them may have passed through Llanbadarn Fawr. I was interested that your Goodwins settled in PA. My ancestors from that line had become Cheltons. Mary Goodwin and Evan Evans would have been their grandparents. My relatives emigrated in the 1830s...quite a bit after yours...but they settled in Concord/Startansburg PA area. The first two sons to settle there were Thomas and John Chelton. Couldn't help wondering if they might have known they had relatives there. Just curious about whether any of these names fit into any of your research. Thanks :) Ann Aylsworth Nason

Hi Robert, I can't believe I just found this response...after THREE YEARS...good grief! I'd love to know more about your Goodwin line and whether or not they lived close to Llanbadarn Fawr. It was in the records from St. Padarn's church there that I found the marriage banns and record of the ceremony between Evan Evans and Mary Goodwin on January 10, 1792. I have no idea about who her parents might have been...but would LOVE a clue! From the records of the churchyard of St. Padarn's, it looks like many people were from Aberystwyth. I hadn't realized how near that is to Llabadarn Fawr. I wonder if I should be looking in a larger circle around that village. It's feeling a bit like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack at this point in time! Thanks so much for your response. I apologize for taking three years to get back to you :0/

Ann Aylsworth Nason
Camp Verde, AZ USA

Ann;

I found the information on Stella in two places:
Familysearch.org & on Ancestry, Philadelphia PA Death Certificate Index, 1803-1915

It did not give a location of the Odd Fellows Cemetery, but I wouldn't think it would be too far away from where they were living. If you come up with any clues that I can help with , let me know, I enjoy the hunt. Howard

I attempted to find your Edward C. on the 1900 census , but no luck.Did find him on the other later ones. He had a Clarence H Goodwin living with him in 1930, as a boarder only abt 3 years younger, maybe a brother, for I counldn't find him on the 1900 either. I did find a daughter Stella b Sep 2 1908, buried Sept 5th in the Odd Fellows Cem. Listed father Edward C. and mother Selley Stenlen? ( the ones transcribing sometimes can not read the records well). It gave the birthplaces for both parents as Philadelphia.
I did not find a 1917/18 draft card for Edward, did he enlist before that Jun 5th date? Sorry I could not be of more help.
