Ginnie Gore born 1820 Kershaw County, South Carolina

Hello everyone.I would love to find information on my 4th Great Grandmother Ginnie Gore.
(Jenny or Jennie or Jinney )The 1880 census said "Jinney". She lived in Pleasant Hill, SC with her husband and children. I discovered her name after I found my 3rd Great Grandmother's death certificate. (Yay!! I was so excited) My 2nd Great Grandfather filed for it and he wrote the names Jerry Mobley of Lancaster County, SC and "Ginnie" Gore of Kershaw County, SC as her parents. I looked them up and found their census records. I would love to get the names of Ginnie's parents if possible. I do have a name for her mother-in-law so there may be hope for Ginnie as well.

*********I believe "Ginnie" may have been a short name for Virginia. I can be wrong. This is just a guess.*********

I am Black but, this ancestor may have been of mixed ancestry. I mean, we know how the times were. It is what it is. So please do not hesitate to contact me with any information. I love my family and want to know all about us.

Stephen --I came across your tree online and just thought I'd respond and say hello. Herman Edward Gore, born in 1886 in Warrick Co., IN, was your great-grandfather. His father was Willam Matthew Gore and mother was Emma J. Wilson. William evidently quite liked the ladies and I've found him to have married at least five times. One of his wives was the mother to my husband's great-grandmother, Bena. I know the genealogy of William's mother but not so much his father. I even have photos of William if you don't already have them. Perhaps we can help each other out.

--Andrea D.

This may or may not help you.

"Gore is old English and saxon in origin from the early 1000s to 1100s. The name also is early Norse from what I could find from the spellings of Goar, Gaor, Gor, Gorr. So basically the name didnt appear in England until the Vikings came over. So its a Norse/Saxon/Celtic name from the early viking age"

He may also have at some earlier time worked for the railroad. Believe him to have been born around 1895, married and either separated or divorced and could have had 3 to 5 or so children. When working for the sanitorium, a married couple who knew him and his family also worked there, but I don't know the couple's names.

I believe your friend, Perry Saddler, may be a relative of mine. CDharles Saddler was my grandfather. Charles waws the son of Alfred (Wentzell) Saddler. Alfred's brother was Harry Wentzell Saddler of Idaho. I know that Harry had a son named Perry who died in 1980. That son wasw first cousin to my grandfather.

I thought I also saw that you were researching the Soule and Brotherton families. My grandfather's wife, Rose Lehners Saddler, has a connection to the Soules. I have been in contact with Lori Brotherton regarding that connetion.

If Perry Saddler is related and is interested, I would like to correspond with him regarding his side of the family.

Thanks, Margaret Wells Geier

I have little information on Harry's family and would like to fill in the blanks so to speak.

Thanks for your tiem,
Margaret Wells Geier

Yes I have done a lot of research on the Millers associated with my children's ancestors. All were from Pennsylvania, none from the Carolinas. Sorry. And Miller is not an easy name to research, since it like Smith and Jones, so very common.

I have been surprised at how common Gore seems to be also.

Hello there,
Do you have an online tree anywhere?

I supposedly have a Joshua Gore in my family who served in the Revolution.

Also, you post reads "He had three brothers". Who had three brothers? John R Gore (Sr.) or Joshua Gore?

My tree is verified up to and including a John Henry Gore born Virginia 1784, died Johnstown, PA 1856. He was married to a Catherine Mowry of Bedford, PA in 1815.

John Henry Gore and Catharine had three boys and a girl. Sons were John A.; Thomas; William Henry; daughter was Catherine.

I have an obituary for son Thomas Gore which mentions an uncle named Joshua who fought in the Revolution. I am assuming this would have been a brother or perhaps a great-uncle of my John Henry Gore, and thus would have been born in Virginia. I'm assuming Revolutionary War service would have been in a Virginia Military unit. And there are indeed two Joshua Gores from Virginia whom I have found listed.

I have come to believe that I am having problems with finding records due to a large portion of Southwest Pennsylvania was once part of Virginia. Everything west of the Allegheny Mountains up to Pittsburgh was a part of Virginia territory. This area became the focus of a big dispute between the Governors of Virginia and Pennsylvania throughout the 1780s. Many settlers to the area, which did in fact become part of Pennsylvania in the eventual settlement, were given titles to their land by means of a "Virginia Certificate".

Thus, as a hint for research, look for records in Greene County, Washington County and Fayette County in Pennsylvania in addition to looking in "Virginia".

I am very interested in seeing what you have.

Thanks a lot,
Diane Ford Miller
(Great Grandmother was born Cora Gore)

I can provide the following info that hs been confirmed.
I am on the lineage of John R. Gore ( Sr), born 1747, married Francis ( or Frankie). According to my information, his father was Joshua Gore. As far as I can determine, Joshua
Gore has not been verified. He had three brothers, Jonathon, William H. (Sr) and James. According to what I have, Joshua
was born about 1710, and was the son of James Gore, who was born in 1670 in Prince Georges County. Did the James Gore
you are related to have as son named Joshua? Do you have the names of James Gore's children? You said you had confirmed your information? Thanks.
Other information I have shows James Gore's father was
John Gore, born about 1633 in England.

Steve Douglas Gore

I can trace my family back to James Gore born in Prince George's, Maryland. He was born in 1680 there, but most list his father as John Gore who was born in England in 1634 and died in Massachusetts. Do anyone have any information whether James may of been born in Mass. then moved to Maryland or if John lived in Maryland then moved back to Mass. As it stands the lineage does not fit.

Thanks for the reply, there is a lot of confusion about the William Gores, there was actually William Jordan Gore who married Willie Morris and his father was Caleb Gore. Then there was William Lee Gore who married Willie E, his father was John Ellis Gore. William Jordan Gore lived until 1940, while William Lee Gore passed away sometime between 1895 and 1900. But I do appreciate the response and from your user name I take it we are cousins somewhere down the line, we ended up in Virginia in 1930. I was born there in 1957, so nice to meet you.

James Gore (c1790) engineer Britain or Ireland

My g-g-grandfather, James Gore married Charlotte Augusta Simpson Clater on August 28, 1837 in St Andrew's Church, Holborn, London, Middlesex, England. He gave his father's name and profession as James Gore, Engineer. For twenty years this has been my brickwall - and my great aunt's brick wall for many years before me. Does the name associated with the occupation mean anything to anyone? I'm assuming James was born in England or Ireland.
Many thanks for any help
Frank

Re: John Henry Gore b1784 VA d1856 Johnstown PA m. Catherine Mowry 1815 Bedford PA

Yes, you keep seeing the same first and middle names over and over again, generation after generation. Plus, in those days of 12 and 13 children there might be six brothers who each had his own 12 or 13 children. And those brothers each continued to use the same famiy names - resulting in various cousins who had the exact same name.

Once the US Census got to the point of listing the individual names of the residents of a household, you can see where sometimes a son was listed as whatever his middle name was. So a father born John Henry may have been listed as John Gore on the census form and his son, also born John Henry, was listed as Henry.
