Hello Cindy,

Daniel Gorsuch of Weston, son of Rev. John Gorsuch did have a wife called Hannah. The record you found I believe should read Gorsuch not Gorshey. I have done some research on this line and I have various documents that confirm Daniel’s identity as John Gorsuch’s son as well as the fact he had a wife called Hannah (I am descended from their son John Gorsuch born in about 1663). Daniel Gorsuch, himself died at Weston, Herts in April 1668 and was buried there on 8 April. He was involved in several court cases before his death as was his widow after his death. There is also an inventory of his estate which was made after his decease which shows his ‘relict’ was Hannah (some of this was in Latin!)and there was also a pre-marital agreement for his son John (the son of Hannah Gorsuch, widow, inheriting the lands of Daniel Gorsuch, deceased, in Weston dated 1684), I don’t know if another one might exist for Grace and William Brett? There is no mention of Grace directly in these documents, but I am sure if you can manage to get your hands on a copy of the original baptism record from Herts Archive it should read as Gorsuch. These are the only Daniel and Hannah Gorsuch I’ve come across in this area (London, Herts, Essex) so she must be their daughter. Let me know if you would like some more information about Daniel and Hannah. Some of the records also mention Daniel’s brother Robert.

Best Wishes

Michael.
Grace Gorsuch (Hertfordshire) born possibly around 1670

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had come across any reference to Grace Gorsuch? She married William Brett in Clothall, Hertfordshire in 1690 & the marriage entry in the parish register doesn't record her parents. I was led to believe that she was the daughter of Daniel but I can't find her birth. There IS however the record of a birth of Grase Gorshey to Daniel and Hannah in Weston and I was wondering if this could be a transcript error? Does anyone know if Daniel Gorsuch (son of Rev John was married to a Hannah?)
Cindy

Margaret White Denver Looking for Boyfriend Don

I Was about 10 years old when I last saw him in 1950. I saw him in a car driving through the alley behind my house. He asked me "How my Mother was?" He was a nice looking man with a very distinct patch on his right eye. I believe this man could be my biological father. This has always left a question in my mind, as I have always felt different than my family, and could not get any answers from my parents. I am 70 years old and my parents are both deceased and I just need to know if there is a possibility to some of my questions. My interest is to know who I am and my biological roots. I have red hair and blue eyes. I have a strong build large hands. I think I am of the Irish or Danish heritage. Please help if you have any information. This would have been on Gaylord Street, Denver Colorado 1950. I have reason to believe that my Mom was involved with someone prior to her marriage to my Dad. But the Name Don has been a long remembered Name that I have never been able to place, outside of seeing him pass through the alley that day. I never saw him again.

I have been looking for some documentation on her, but have no plans of running the Gorsuch family back more generations myself.
HOWARD LANHAM
(Westminster, MD)
hglanham@gmail.com

Trying to find more info on the following:
In the Jacob Engelbrecht Marriage Ledger of Frederick County, Maryland, 1820-1890, there is an entry for Flowers, Michael, who married Arnold, Catharine (Mrs.), Jan. 27, 1831, which leads us to believe that this was Catharine's second marriage. (p. 36) In the same source we find that Abraham Gorsuch marries Sophia (Flowers) Arnold on July 21, 1833 (p. 94)

My aunt, Marie Heilman, was married to a Gorsuch for 14 years or more. I guess they divorced many years ago and I thought, he may have remarried someone who was named Isabel. He is in some pix I have of the family and I suspect he was born from 1900 to 1910 or so. Just got to recalling some of the folks I used to know. Thanks,

Dear Katherine
Thanks for email.
My maiden name was Bone, my mother's name was Bateman and here mother's name was Goulder and her mother was Annie Gorsuch. As I have not concentrated on the Gorsuch I cannot answer your questions immediately. However, I have Gorsuch information and my connection is in the town of Gorsuch near Southport in Lancashire, England where I was born.
I will look at what I have and then get back to you. My brother has been staying with us for the last week and this meant that family history had to be put on the shelf.
I will come back to you as soon as possible.
Best regards
Kathy Upex

upex001@aol.com (our email address)

Dear Dorothy
I am out of Mary Ann Goulder and Charles Ernest Bateman.
I know Nadine Scott through emails.
My address is Mrs K M Upex, 6 Earlsdon Way, Highcliffe on Sea, Christchurch, Dorset BH23 5AU.
Unfortunately, my cousin Ann Cooke, nee Bateman and her mother Gwen Bateman nee Bingham have recently died. Gwen was 93 and Ann who was 67 had cancer. Ann's dad, Charles Bateman was my mother's brother. The other brother Gregory did not marry and lived with my grannie at 61 Everton Road, Birkdale, before he went to the Isle of Man.
Any infor you could pass on would be well received. I also have an 18 page family tree, sent to me I think by a Graham Goulder which has the Cardwell's etc on it.
Anyway, I would like to hear from you as I have lost Ann - we always compared notes in our research.
My email is upex001@aol.com
I have had my brother here this last week so I had to leave family history on the shelf for a while.
Thanks for getting in touch and I hope to learn more from you regarding the families. I followed the Ratcliffe connection and went up north a few years ago.
Must close - take care
Kathy

Re: GORSUCH Genealogy

The name comes from Lancashire, England. It was derived from the name Gosforsyke. The first Gorsuch was Adam de Gosforsyke in the 1200 Century. The family were decended from the scarisbrick family. The name has changed over the years and has now several ways of spelling it eg. Gossage
Gorstich, and many others. There was once a place called Gorsuch, not far from Liverpool it doesn't exist any more but there is still a Gorsuch Lane and Gorsuch Hall Farm.

You asked about Gorsuch Hall. It is situated 15 kilometers from Liverpool & 6 kilometers from Ormskirk. It is situated between scarisbrrick and Halsall. It is on the A567 and in Gorsuch Lane. The Hall & Estate consisted of a dwelling house, 50 acres of land,10 acres of pasture & 10 acres of meadow.Survey of 1653 discribes the house as having a hall, kitchen & larder, two butteries and seven lower rooms. There was also a long upper roomm called a chapel chamber and four other upper rooms and four closets.Out houses included an wash house,5bay slate barn ,nine bays of other out houses a mill house, a six bay brick kiln house and other outhouse, together with gardens and orchards and a milking yard. Not like that now though.
Hope this is of interest Dorothy

Dear Kathy,
I have been looking through my old papers and found a letter sent to me my Nadine Scott in the 1990's. I think we got back to John Gorsuch marrying Margaret Owens. then Annie marrying Thomas Cardwell then Marjorie marrying George Goulder coming down to Nadine.
I have done a lot of research since then and can probably go a lot farther back. I will have to look on my tree but I am sure that part of the family is on it.Nadine sent me a copy of the funeral of Annie Goulder and a copy of her will.
If you would like the rest of the family maybe it goes back to William, I cant remember ! if you send me your address or email I will try and sort it out for you.
Hello Dawn,
I am doing research on the Gorsuch name. I married into the family and my husband's brothers think they are a direct descendent of the Reverend John Gorsuch m. Anne Lovelace. You mentioned that you have your husband’s lineage all the way back to this union. I have been trying to work my husband’s line back to the Reverend Gorsuch but the farthest back I can confirm is Henderson (or James Henderson?) Gorsuch who appears on the 1880 U. S. Census as born about 1834 and m. to Elizabeth (Gates?). Do you have any of these names in your records? I would really appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks,
Veronica Finlay Gorsuch
He worked as a mold maker (iron works, I presume) and was married to Ruth Virginia (Holton) Gorsuch (1843 - 1913), the daughter of George Holton and Katherine (Mertz) Holton.
I have just found a tree that links to my tree thru John Gorsuch and Ann Rambo. They were the parents of James McCoy Gorsuch, who married Agnes Ann Farmer. They were in Mt. Their son Everett Channing Allen married Mabel Louise Harvey of Kansas City, Missouri. They are my parents. I am working the tree on back and would greatly appreciate all the help I can get.
Edith Gorsuch pictures dated 1913

In my grandmother's pictures are two picture dated July 8, 1913 containing a Edith Gorsuch per the back of the photos.

One has Edith with her arm around my grandmother, Georgianna Roberta (Bertie) Seward. My grandmother was born 1891 in Baltimore, Maryland and lived her entire life there. She married a John Edward (Eddie)Thursby. I mention this for two reasons: 1) one of the pictures has other relatives of my grandfather in it including his younger step-brother, 2)The picture was taken about a year before they were married.

Both pictures are dated the same date but the location was not noted. The other names in the pictures are Edith Cullison, Kennard Hamilton, Anna Mister, Robert Shinnick and Irma Alwene(spelling hard to tell).

Hi Dennis,

The info you got through your wife's uncle, the Gorsuch historian, does interest me.

You write:
"I saw the headstone of Jane Ensor who was married to two of the Gorsuch brothers".

Jane Ensor, wife of Thomas Gorsuch, was my ancestor - I had no idea that she married another Gorsuch as well. Please send me the info you have about the Gorsuch family via the line of Charles (born 1642), and his son Thomas who married Jane Ensor.

I can send you pictures of the Gorsuch farm which a friend took about two years ago, as well as a newspaper article about its history.

I also have the Gorsuch Bible. Please let me know if you would like to have any of these.

Thank you,
Talila
