This book includes my husband his siblings, parents and grandparents and the line back to David Gott b. 11 April 1777. Buy the way we now live in Huron Co.
Hi
I have just been looking at the updates on Ancestry and came across your link to Gotts in Cowling Yorks England UK. I have been researching my Gotts in Cowling for quite a long time. I have not, as yet, linked to your Cowling Gotts but I wondered if you knew about the "www.cowlingweb.co.uk" website which is really good and "www.Wharfegen.org.uk" web site which is really good too. Both have lots of data about the Gotts in Cowling. This might help you with your research. I have put a picture of my ancestor, Smith Gott who was born in 1847 at Stone Head Farm, Cowling in the old photographs section of Cowling Web.
Good luck with your research and I hope this info helps you.
Happy New Year.
Jan Stoney

Re: Gott's of Seneca Co, NY

I have a photo from the 1890s of the Gott family in Seneca Falls, New York, from which I'm a descendant.

Robert Gott (my great-great grandfather) would likely have been born in the 1830s. His son, Robert Gott II (my great grandfather), likely was born around 1870 and married Martha Ostrander in Seneca Falls. I remember him as an elderly gentlemen in the 1950s in Detroit. His son Robert Gott III had moved to Detroit from Seneca Falls prior to or around 1920. His older sister, Marie McGregor Gott (my grandmother), married (Wilson) in Detroit in around 1920 and had two sons born in 1922 and 1925.

It seems unlikely there were two Gott families in Seneca Falls, New York in the mid-to-late 1800s. I wonder where my Gott family fits in with the Gotts already chronicled?

Dear Mr. Gott...I am so happy to hear from you. It was a very cold overcast day December 2009 and then...the sun came out and it became very nice and warm. 1,000's of people volunteered...I felt honored as I moved along the crowds. Huge Mac trucks with patriotic sayings were parked all along the way and we picked up more than 10,000 wreaths from them. My husband was on his 4th year long tour over seas and I sent him pictures from my Blackberry during the day. He was very proud that I was participating. I know this sounds kind of corny but if you're military and you paricipate in this type of ceremony it is hard to not feel like something important and meaningful is taking place. I have about 30 or more pictures from that morning...we stayed several hours...couldn't leave as it was so beautiful...I did walk up the hill from your fathers grave to the eternal flame...green wreaths with red bows as far as your eyes could see...I will do it again this year...with my husband this time. I would love to send you some of the pictures...I started this board and a tree "The Gott Family Tree"... hoping someone would find me...if you can find that on this site you can see a few of the pictures of your fathers grave...If you want me to remove them out of respect or privacy after you see them and copy them...I will. I was hoping to find someone in his family to share them with. I know how hard it becomes to get to a cemetary after a while. So look for the tree and you can email me your email address...I will then be able to send an invite to you to be an editor on your "own tree" and I will send you the rest of the pictures too. I am not good at emailing lot's of pictures (file gets too big) so I may need to send you all of them...one at a time! Sincerely, Melinda
My father's grave is located down the hill from President Kennedy's eternal flame. It's been many years since I've visited Arlington. I would like to see your photos.
Would you by any chance have a picture of Charlotte Johnson Gott? Her brother was my 3rd great grandfather, and I'm trying to collect old pictures of my family. If anyone else out there would happen to have a picture of her, I'd dearly love to have one. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. Both were living and married in Durham, England. Several of their children were born there; my grandmother was among the youngest (of eleven) and born in the U.S. when Mary was 42. Have you had access to a family bible? photos? Have you found any records from their life in England? What ship they sailed on?
I also read one account (without any documentation) that there was a child George who died enroute to the U.S. "at sea." The account then referred to the next child named George as "George II".
Thanks so much.
Linda Neel Berg llberg08@aol.com

It was a very sentimental moment for me...I have photos of his head stone with and without the wreath. He was a PFC SN DET 304 Kentucky Engineers...World War 1...he was born 29 Aug 1893 and died 8 Mar 1958. If anyone is related to him and would like the photos...please contact me.

You may want to check the Warren County Kentucky message board: http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ken...
Anne Schmidt links my linage (see below) from Jonathan Gott to his father named Sutton Gott in Virginia. I think this may be the line you're connected to as well.
I copied my post on that board as follows:
I am direct line decendant to Jonathan F Gott & Elizabeth (Phillips) Gott:
Jonathan & Elizabeth's daughter Prudy D Gott married William H. Smith.
Prudy & William's daughter Artimetia Smith married Henry C Cotton.
Henry and Artimetia's daughter Lallie Birdie Cotton married Jim M Johnson.
Jim and Birdie's daughter Arty May Johnson married Elmer Ray Crabtree.
Elmer and Arty's daughter Sylvia Crabtree was my mother.
My uncle told me that my great grandmother Birdie Johnson (I was 4 yrs old at her funeral) was a Daughter of the American Revolution. By going to their site I am able to fill in one more blank for you:
Prudence Doty (also spelled Doughty on some records) was the daughter of Jeremiah Doty. Jerimiah was born circa 1740 in Virginia and died at Smith Co TN on 5/2/1816. Prudence was the daughter of Jerimiah and his first wife Sarah (last name, birthdate and birth place unknown at this time) who died in Greenville Co, 96 Dist SC in 1785 (Prudence was 10 yrs old). Jermiah Doty served as a Captain in the American Revolution under Cols Thomas, Roebuck furnishing supplies.
Apparently you will be direct line decendant to Jerimiah and therefore a DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).
How cool!
Thanks so much for the info on Jonathan's side I was hitting a brick wall until I came across your post! Send me an e-mail anytime.
Now on another note: My uncle was correct about the DAR line now the other thing he told me was that Grandma's (Arty Johnson) family came from Virginia and played a large roll in the founding of Smiths Grove but so far I can't find anything. And her grandmother? great grandmother? helped to found the Dripping Springs Baptist Church. Does anyone know anything on the history of Smiths Grove or Dripping Springs Baptist Church?
She was raised by Norman Cocharan because her mom died when she was 8 months old and her dad could not take care of her, but she found the family as she got older and got reacquainted with the family. She is still living as well. I can understand why she would not be well known to you. Some people don't know of her. She was married to a Mister, but now is divorced. I talked to her last night as well. If I canget any information, I will let you know. Faith

I have Louella M. Gott born 29 Oct 1931. I checked and found Louella M. Harrell died March 1 1997 so it sounds like the same person. She is sister to Joseph H. Gott Sr. who is great grandfather of my Goddaughter. He is still living. He lives in Essex, MD. I would be interested if your mother knows where Louella's grandparents on the Stallings side are buried. I can't find when William and Katherine Stallings died or where they were buried. If you check ancestry then I have posted your ancestors.
