Tryng to confirm ancestry of the Goza families in early GA. This particular Goza family is said to have migrated from Edgefiled District, SC
First to arrive was Fredrick L Goza (B: about 1792/1793). He is said to be a son of John Goza Sr mentioned below. He was on the 1830 DeKalb County census. After the death of his wife, Frederick sold his DeKalb County land in 1844 and moved to Cherokee County, AL and lived with his son, Zebalon.
Next to arrive was Robert J Goza ( B: about 1806). who is also said to be a son of John Goza Sr mentioned below. He was listed as a fortunate drawer on the 1832 Land Lottery and was at that time living in Johnson's District, DeKalb county. He then moved across the creek into Gwinnett County.
By 1835/1836, it appears the rest of the Goza family unit had arrived in DeKalb County.
John Goza Sr (B: about 1770???) was on the 1840 DeKalb Census but had died by 1850. His son, John L Goza Jr was born in 1818 in SC and still in his father's household in 1840
Some (or most) of his other children were also in DeKalb and Gwinnet Counties as well.
Aaron Goza (B: about 1791/1792) was in Gwinnett County by 1835/1836, but in DeKalb County by 1850
Bird (Albert) Goza (B: about 1810/1811) was in DeKalb County by 1835/1836, but migrated to Tallapoosa County, AL by 1860
William A Goza (B: 1816) was still in his father's household in 1840 but migrated out of DeKalb by 1850. He died in 1906 in Walker County, GA.
Wayfield Goza (B: about 1796) migrated to Greene County, AL
Rebecca Goza (B: about 1808) married Charles Rainey and they were also in DeKalb County by 1835/1836
It is said that John Goza Sr was the son of a Matthew Goza.
Trying to determine the exact lineage of John Goza Sr and verify all of his children (supposedly about 12 children). The estimated dates of birth for his children at LDS are off by several years.
As well, trying to determine if/how this family is linked back to the early Italian Gosse immigrants that settled in Virginia.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
