City to Yauco, Puerto Rico and due to the family being so big they are all over Puerto,Rico, Spain, Portugal, Japan and many more Countries even Mexico. Small World right I have been doing research for the past 5yrs and this is where I stand as of today. May God Bless You And Your Family and nice to have seen your post and your interest about knowing more about our Ancestors because not too many people care about doing this unless you really care about family like I do.... :)

my family and your families are distant cousins. My Gracia branch of the family originated from a family who stepped off the boat in New Orleans in 1790s... later a family member sent their only grand son to them almost 100 years later, and his name is recorded as Jose Gracia.

As far as I know, they separated from the rest of the bunch that ended up mainly in San Fernando, then Tampico, & Vera Cruz due to my branch being the direct descendants of king Carlos I, but I've yet to find the concrete connection there... probably never will. But my surname should have been "de Gracia," which separated the royal lineage of "Gracia" from the rest, but it was changed to just Gracia.

I believe according to paperwork I was able to find, however, that my great great great grandfather and his siblings ended up in what is now Houston and spread west and down to south Texas and Mexico before Texas was a state I believe in an effort to reconnect with the cousins and family that ended up in San Fernando, but my great great grandfather settled in China NL... his sons dispursed from there... I'm at work and can't remember any names, sorry... but my great grandfather was from China NL and he had light brown hair and ice gray eyes. He was also 6'5-7". What got him to married a 5' native american lady is beyond me, but now I'm only 5'8". He settled in Rio Grande City where the Gracias had lots of land. Then some politician named Blaas did some paperwork theivery and we lost about 80% of it.

My grandfather's name is Domingo M Gracia and carried surnames of Mireles and Avalos. He married Maria Lopez (have no clue what her other surnames were). My father is Matilde Lopez Gracia, who still lives in Rio Grande City. My name is Domingo Rivera Gracia. My mother was from Cd Victoria, Tamps. That's a whole other Aztec lineage on that side.

There are still Gracias in China, but if you have red and/or blonde headed ice gray or hazel eyed relatives, then we are distant family.

Greetings Lorenzo,

There were 10 different Gracia families from Spain that made it to the "new world" and 3 from Portugal ended up in Argentina, Belize, and Brazil. 2 of the 10 actually ended up in the Philipines. Of the 8 that made it to the northern hemisphere during the 1600-1700s, 1 ended up in San Francisco, 4 went to Mexico... San Fernando, Tampico, Vera Cruz. 1 ended up in New Orleans (who is my descendant), 1 in Florida, and 1 in Puerto Rico. The one in Puerto Rico, part of them ended up in New York, and some in Cuba.

Of the 4 in Mexico, they went all over Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon. Florida people stayed there mostly.

The one in New Orleans ended up in Houston and some of his sons (3 of them I think) spread down into central and south Texas and into Mexico. One of those sons was my great great grandfather whose name I do not know, he ended up in China, Nuevo Leon, but had bought land in Rio Grande City as well. My great grandfather whose name I can't remember right now moved to Rio Grande area and a few of his siblings came along. My grandfather was Domingo Gracia and lived Rio Grande City. My dad, Matilde Gracia, talks a lot about family and mentioned Armando Gracia.

Your grandfather is correct. The Gracias are from Castile and Aragon areas and most were part of the royal armies. My particular branch, and I haven't found the missing pieces yet and probably won't, but my branch comes from Aragon and the names lead to a son of king Charles I. When the settlement of the Americas took place during his reign, the families of the Gracia's that were linked with the royal family that were given a choice as to where they wanted to go. That's as far as I know.

You can still find major concentrations of Gracias in Barcelona, Burgos, Madrid, Valladolid, & Gijon.

Hello, my name is Irmaiscela Gracia, my family from my father's side is from San Fernando and my parents live in Brownsville Tx, Ricardo Gracia is my father's cousin, It looks like the Gracia last name is not that common I have never find any of my family members in places that I have been around, I live in Katy tx (Houston. I found information on Tamaulipas history and since it was colonized by Spaniards, I assumed the Gracia last name is purely from Spain, here is the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamaulipas

I agree with some others that have been posted in this space that it bothers when people read Garcia instead of Gracia.

Hi,
Gracia is also a Portuguese name.
My great grandmothers maiden name was Gracia (Anglicized to Grace by some of her relatives in this country) she came to Mass. as a young woman in the 1880's from Horta,Fayal in the Azores. There was a large Portuguese community around the New Bedford,Falmouth and Provincetown areas. They were mostly Whalers. I found Gracias still there when I last visited in 2000.

Pam

I have a Ignacio Gracia-Villarreal married to Juana Maria Salinas, with sons Catarino, Santiago and Blas Gracia, but have not confirmed that this is the same Santiago married to my MaGuadalupe Cantu since parents were not listed in the marriage or baptisms of their children that i have found so far. It seems probable by the date.
Blas married Bibiana Cantu-Chapa.
I have Catarino having married Eufemia Barraz.
Let's talk more! retta gee at yahoo dot com is okay to contact.

My name is Venalda and is my mother's and we thought it was a family name. My mother was raised in New Jersey. Can you tell me a little about your grandmother (where she was from, etc). Do you have any idea where she got that name? Were there other ancestors with the name? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi. I recently traced my family Gracia roots from Durango to Chihuahua to Ontario, Ca. They left due to the civil war. My great grandfather is Francisco Gracia and my great grandmother is Lucas Molina and they are from Santa Maria del Oro, Durango, Mexico. Francisco's parents are Jose Maria Gracia and Dionicia Diaz. I very much like to find out more family history. Thank You.

Hello everyone, my name is Genevieve Gracia Flores. I recently became curious where my middle name came from. I use it very proudly, it is my mother's last name. She was born in Sonora, Mexico, where we have a big Gracia family. When having conversations with my great uncle's who are still living they share stories of their upbringing and, they all too reside in Sonora, Mexico. My mother, five sisters and I all reside in Arizona. Yes, I can relate, Garcia is not my name, it's Gracia.

The only connection that I have to Gracia is my Great Great Great Grandmother Eliza Gracia. I don't know much about her except that she was married to Zenon Garcia and had 5 children. She was born in the late 1880's early 1890's and that she lived in several places around Puerto Rico but finally settled in and around Carolina where the next 2 generations where raised. If anyone else has managed to get their family charts back that far and finds we are connected please let me know.
