      <title>Obit. Ann M. (Smith) Gracida</title>
      <link>http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/surnames.gracida/2/mb.ashx</link>
<description>GRACIDA, ANN M. July 3, 1945 to Feb. 28, 2004 Ann M. (Smith) Gracida, known by her family and friends as Annie, was born in La Mesa, Calif. She was a native Californian descendant of Thomas Smith, "the first citizen of the United States to settle permanently in greater California" in 1807. She lived her youth in Lemon Grove with her parents Joe (RIP) and Judy Beltran Smith, her two sisters Gloria (Verduzco), Mercy (Robles) and her brother Jose Smith. She graduated from Helix High School in 1963, the same year she married her husband Joaquin, a now retired USMC Colonel. She was a supportive wife for 42 years. During their many moves and transfers Annie traveled or lived in several states of the U.S., in Europe, Puerto Rico and the Far East where she made many friends and left long-lasting impressions. Annie was a devoted mother to her two sons, Joaquin and Leon, and a loving grandmother to her granddaughter Gabrielle. A Vigil Service will be held on Wednesday, 7 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2725 55th Street, San Diego, 92105. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, March 4, 2004, 2 p.m. at the Holy Cross Mausoleum Chapel in San Diego. Following the Mass she will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery where most of her ancestors are buried. A reception will follow at St. William of York Church. She was very involved with her parish. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to the St. William of York Catholic Church Building Fund, 4343 Del Mar Trails Road, San Diego, Ca 92130. This was a project she wanted to see completed in her lifetime.
