HI,
All I have in my tree is that Mary 'Polly' Grafton was born c. 1794. Her siblings were William, Thomas, Elizabeth (my line), Margaret, Andrew, Jane and Nancy. Her brother William Grafton marries Ester Stormont, so the families intermarried.

You can view a WPA will transcript of Mary MNU Grafton, mother of Mary 'Polly' Grafton at SC Archives site
http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/onlinearchives/SearchResults...

Contact me on rbccstrr at aol.co.uk with DOB, DOD etc on your Henry Stormont. We are probably working on the same families. I descend from Mary 'Polly' Grafton's sister Elizabeth Grafton b 1784who md Thomas McCullough.

Rebecca

I am researching Mary "Polly" Grafton, possible daughter of your Thomas Grafton. I believe she married my g-great grandfather Henry Storment(Stormont) from Chester County. Do you have any info about her, or do you you have a copy of Mary Grafton's will?

I wish l had something important to say about Cloe, only that l also have very few relatives outside my own children here in Australia. l thought it interesting not only do Cloe and l share the same sir name but also share the same birthday. Cloe, l think was perhaps a strong, deep, and passionate person capable of almost any thing she put her mind to. I don't know why l say this but l'm sure it's true.

Hi,

It's been almost a year, and I would like to take you up on your offer to look up something in the Grafton book for me. I am looking Salem Grafton's parents and their vital information. I have information that states that Salem was born 16 Oct 1808 in Maryland, and that's all. I haven't been able to find his parents' names or that of any siblings.

I appreciate any information you can provide.

Thanks so much,

Jill

In my last post I stated that Mary Elizabeth? MNU, wife of Thomas M Grafton 1746-1792 might have been born a Stewart. It is actually Mary Elizabeth MNU b c 1709, wife of Thomas Grafton b 1715 (Thomas M Grafton's father), who may have been born a Stewart. This couple named a son Stewart and the Stewart name was repeated many times in later generations.

Thanks for checking your tree for Mary Grafton. I'm looking for a direct female descendant in order to compare mtDNA Haplotypes. She had a number of daughters: Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary, Jane, Nancy, all b in the 1780s.////

I take it that you are from the branch of Graftons who left SC as Loyalists and went to Canada? ////

Mary's will was signed 1803, recording date unk. She died some time later**.////

For those who may be interested, here is some cemetery info on her and her Grafton inlaws from Mt Olivet Cemetery, Fairfield Co, SC from an online transcription (so cannot vouch for absolute accuracy of the readings). ////

They are buried among McCullough graves in Mt Olivet Cem Fairfield, Co, SC Mary's daughter Elizabeth married Thomas McCullough of Fairfield.////

Grafton, Thomas: Here lies the body of Thomas Grafton, who departed this life March the 12th in the year of our Lord 1797, aged 81 years. .......SO BORN 1716

Grafton, Elizabeth: who departed this life Sep the 25, 1792 age 83 years. ...... SO BORN 1703 [WIFE OF THOMAS b 1716?]

**Grafton, Mary: who was born in 1753, and departed this life on the 8th Sep 1827, aged 71 years. Marker erected by daughters of Mary Grafton.

Grafton, Thomas Jr.: who departed this life Sep 14th in the year of our Lord 1792, age 46 years. SO BORN 1746 .........[pretty sure this is Thomas M Grafton, Mary's husband)//// indicates paragraph breaks

I can prove my lineage from Mary Grafton will sg 1803 of Gladdens Grove, Fairfield Co, SC (near Chester Co line) widow of Thomas M Grafton. Her maiden name is unknown. Both Mary and Thomas were born I believe in Antrim Co, Ireland. I have a rare mtDNA haplogroup (maternal line DNA) that would be the same as Mary's haplogroup. Are there other Grafton descendants from Mary Grafton out there who would like to compare? Since the haplogroup is so rare, this could be a way to find Mary's maiden name, which I believe MAY be Stewart.

If you contact me off list (will have e-mail address after my name) maybe we can help each other. I have a tree on Ancestry for my husband so I can add people as a Guest at first and maybe later add them as Contributor- which would give you access to viewing what I have.
Dot, looks like the Benjamin Grafton in your line is a different one that what nevadajohns and my husband have in their line. I noticed there was the one in Maryland along with the one that was born in Ohio. Here is what I have on Benjamin F. Grafton:

B. 25 Feb 1820 in , Champaign, Ohio
D. 2 Dec 1909 in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio

1st marriage was to Mary Ann Morris (B. abt 1823 Ohio) and they produced:

1. Isabell
B. abt. 1846 Ohio (found on 1850 Census) (living in Washington, Logan, Ohio)

Not sure yet, but possible Isabell passed away before the 1860 Census because here are the children listed on it (living in same place as 1850):

2. Rosetta
B. abt 1851 Ohio
3. Olney (male)
B. abt 1856 Ohio
4. Rolvin (male)
B. abt 1858 Ohio

The 1870 Census (they are now living in Burnettsville, White, Indiana) shows Benjamin and Mary and the children's names/dates are listed differently that year (even shows Bejamin and Mary's years different):

2. Rosalia
B. abt 1853 Ohio
3. Olney
B. abt 1857 Ohio
4. Rolene B.
B. abt 1859 Ohio

In 1880 Benjamin was living in Jackson, White, Indiana and was married to Sopha (B. abt 1835 Ohio). They produced:

5. Gracy M.
B. abt 1876 Indiana

I dont know where Benjamin was born I have him born circa 1819,the 1860 census lists his wife as Brinda & the 1870 census lists his wife as Melinda, though that's proably the same name. My grandmother always said that her grandmother (his wife) was a Cherokee Indian. Their children are as follows: Nancy 1847, Martha 1849, Benjamin 1851, William 1853, John 1858, Aquilla 1863, Laura 1868. Aquilla (my great grandfather was born in Harford County, Md

Do you know where Benjamin was born? I have a Benjamin F. Grafton b 1820-02-25 in Champaign County, Ohio, son of Ambrose Grafton and Elizabeth Kelley. He married a Mary Morris but I have nothing on his offspring. My tree goes back two more generations to Thomas Grafton, b 1760.

I've been trying to link Francis Wheelock, wife of James Grafton to Elizabeth Wheelock, wife of Martin Justin. They were both in Peel County, Ontario about 1820-40. Elizabeth may also have been the daughter of William Wheelock who petitioned for land in 1819 in York Ontario. Martin Justin was born in Queens County Ireland. Elizabeth Wheelock Justin was born about 1793 in Ireland and died 11 March 1885 in Toronto Township, Peel County, Ontario.
I haven't found much on Wheelocks from Ireland so far.
The Justins and Graftons both came to Ontario via the US. Perhaps the Wheelocks did as well.

Re: Grafton Family of Caroline Co Va

As a side note...the problem with the Grafton clan is the reuse of first names over and over and over again....William is a common name in the Virginia and Ohio family lines....

My records identify a William Grafton being married to a Catharine Long...not much is known about this family...this William's father was James Cowden Grafton who married Mary Ann Hill...and was living around the Champaign County, Ohio area...he is part of the Thomas "Old Tommy" Grafton family line from Virginia....

So you will need to make sure you are talking about the right person...good luck

America Grafton's father is suspected as being William Grafton of Caroline County...what sources did you get his birth and marriage information from?

Have not been able to place this William yet...but he appears to be related some how to the Virginia Grafton's in King and Queen County.

Not much is known about William Grafton of Caroline County. Early tax records of the Virginia suggest that William may have moved from King and Queen County and settled in Caroline County sometime after 1794. He is found living King and Queen County and is listed in the 1782, 1784, 1785, 1786, 1787, 1789, 1790, 1791, 1793, and 1794 Personal Property Tax lists. However, by 1799 he is listed on the Personal Property Tax lists for Caroline County.

In the 1810 US Census William is listed as being over 45 years of age, with no sons living with the family but having: 1 female under 10 years of age; 1 female 16 thru 25 years of age; and, 1 female (wife) over 45 years of age.

Have some information on one of American's son "Tho" from his great grand daughter-in-law. This source indicates that America and Thomas had eleven children...and lists a brother George W. Gray who were in the Civil War together.

Sarah Grafton who married Thomas Bell is likely the Sarah Grafton (born abt. 1767, Virginia; died bet. 1820-1823, Caroline County, VA) who was daughter of Thomas Grafton of King and Queen County...mother was Sally Unknown.

Have a listing for a daughter Mary Ann Bell (B. 1800, VA; Died aft. 1840, Bedford County, TN) who married John B. Brame...do not have any listing for a Nancy Ann Born abt. 1799..however once I get away from my Grafton line I do not spend much research effort...just too many persons to track as I have will over 1,749 individual in this Grafton line with another 1,600 in my other Grafton line....

Larry cyborgh8@yahoo.com
