If I understand, the son is not buried with or near the parents. Cemetery records might show the names and area of residence of children, or give indication of a church which might have more records. Knowing a religion can help narrow down a church. Church records sometimes indicate a transfer of membership to another area church and may give information about an occupation. A research librarian might be able to tell you what records would be available to give direction~ examples newspaper articles about town people seem to have been much more informative about facts (not fiction) than what we have in current times.
Searching means starting from what you have and trying to go forward from clues. If there are any family members you can contact, ask what memories they have. If you get an "Oh, I remember that she..." write it down, then go back and try to attach it to events of the times, or other memories that might come. Maybe you can find a wedding announcement that tells the home town of the bride and work from that information. You may have to work from a hub (the cemetery records) then spread to developing towns close by.
Don't forget to check with the Clan Graham of America genealogist who is a wonderful resource person for USA Grahams. Check with their Clan website which will also tell the library that is the repository for Graham records. If I remember correctly, it is something like the Odem Library in Moultrie GA.am records.

Sorry I cannot help more, my area is N. Ireland and Scotland.
Best regards,
Mairead

Descendents of William Graham of Cambridge NY, and Reynoldsburg OH

All of William Graham's descendents, that I could discover, are now within an Ancestry family tree for your inspection, with sources and linkages to Find-A-Grave.

I regret that I cannot answer queries of do lookups. Normal Ancestry searches will uncover matches in this data, or you can examine the tree itself.

To find the tree, click on my name next to the photo above and then click on "view profile". My profile will have a list of public trees - select the tree "Descendents of William Graham of Cambridge NY". You will be able to search within the tree. Cheers!

-- Tom

Just a thought: If you found the graves, does the cemetery have any records? If not try to find a research librarian or historical society in the town where the graves are and ask if they can help you.

Best regards,
Mairead

Tracie,

Hi, I have been searching high and low for information on my Grahams, who I believe went from Scotland, to Ireland then to the US. My gr. gr. grandfather was Robert Emmett Graham who I have been told was born in Ireland, but a generation or 2 previously, the family moved from Scotland due to a marriage. I know that Robert Emmett brought his wife and 6(?) kids to New York in 1850 (through England), where they had 2 more kids, one of which was my gr. grandfather, Robert Patrick Graham. I can't seem to get any farther back than that. Could you please help?? Thanks for your time,

Tammy Graham

I have Thomas S. Graham b. Sept. 1859 in Ohio married Elizabeth b. Penn.

They had a son named Charles S. Graham b. July 1891 in Ohio
Charles had 2 known sisters, Lavadie E. b. Jan 1890 in Ohio and Maud B. b. Apr. 1895 in Mississippi

Was informed that one of Charles's sisters married an Indian of the Blackfoot tribe. This is a story from my Grandmother.

Charles married Bertha from Illinois and moved to Indiana
They had the following: Mary, Edna, Ruth, William, Esther, James, and John.

Any help on this information is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any information about this couple?

Laetitia Graham is listed as having married Robert Bickham in Lancaster Co. Pa 10 Apr 1769, in St. James First Reformed Congregation.

There is a chance that they are the parents of Hugh Bickham, b. 1770, reportedly in Pennsylvania. This is a huge brick wall in the Bickham genealogy, so if you have any information on Laetitia and Robert, I would be most grateful for your help!

Hi Delia, I'm still researching Andrew. I wish I knew what part of NC he came from. I have photos of all the tombstones at Gainy Cemetery in Cairo Ga. and Laurence Calvin Graham in Reno where he is buried. Laurence had a brother and a sister and a descendant from his brother has had his DNA done and we're waiting for a match. His name is Sam Graham who lives north of Atlanta. I just looked at the date that I wrote the last post so I hope you are still there. I am attending the highland festival in Maryville,tn this weekend and will be with many Grahams. A genealogist I hired 5 or 6 years ago couldn't get anywhere with Andrew either so prayerfully we will eventually get there. Shirley

I just thought of two more possible sources for beginning
searching for Grahams. If an ancestor has some sort of court
or other legal record, there is more likely to be a record.
Wicomick Maryland was a port where ships with indentured servants and "villans" were brought. I know they have records. Another port of shipment is Jamestown Virginia.
There are records of men and women leaving Scotland, most
likely it could be Glasgow. The Muncaster papers are another
source of court document. These papers were discovered in
a forgotten munician storage room in Muncaster Castle. Thos
documents are available. In fact, Unicorn Ltd ~Scot Press ( there retirement location is in either Alabama or Georgia. They go to a limited number of Scottish games. You can find them in Google.
Regards,
Mairead

Please let me know how the DNA works out. I am not able to find the Graham cousin who is the only one left with the necessary DNA.
As mentioned in prior email, Alexandria Virginia was settled by Scottish merchants and at that time covered much more that the current Fairfax County. It was huge. Many Scots braved the elements, etc and made settlements. Hopefully, the names you have are lasting records of earlier family members. Treck of new settlers in VA seems to have gone west and south west. Grahams can be traced in that direction. I am not certain about the Carolinas. Newcomers may have followed the rivers.
Here are two web sites that I hope will give you a new and productive start: http://www.vahistorical.org/research/genealogy.htm
http://www.n2genealogy.com/virginia/va-county-orange.html

I do wish you success, I am still in N. Ireland research and the burning of the only copies of government records. Luckily, I do know occupations and religious preference. Some records from early on are still available in some sort of form.
By the way, there were Collins and McKeldins in Louisville area

Regards,
Mairead

Nellie is wonderful! I certainly would be tempted to ask the pastor why he felt he had the right to throw out church records. What was he thinking!
There were Grahams in Virginia in very early years of the
commonwealth history. There is a library in central Virginia that had good genealogical records. Years ago, I found them while doing another search. It seems to me the Historical society had something to do with the research librarian. I will try to remember and will do a bit of checking to see if
I can find it again. Budget cuts have not been kind to libraries.

Have a wonderful time at the festival!
Regards,
Margaret

Thank you for your reply. I do belong to Clan Graham and have exhausted every avenue. We don't know where Andrew came from in NC and I had a genealogist try to track him down to no avail. I'm just not giving up because there are new things everyday and one never knows. I'm trying now to go to a Rachel Collins to whom he was married but have found no marriage license for them. I have pictures of all their tombstones in Gainy cemetery and Reno. A pastor that took over a church there threw out all the records. I have many copies of court house records but nothing to give me a hint as to where he migrated from in NC. My mother was a Collins so I don't know if there is a connection there but still trying. Thank you for your reply, hopefully something will turn up soon. I'm attending the highland festival in Maryville, tn this weekend and will see Nellie who is the genealogist for Clan Graham. A cousin has had his dna done and hopefully that will lead us somewhere.
What research have you done other than to find Burke County records have burned down?
Hopefully you can find history of the trek from the place in North Carolina and in and around Cairo Georgia. You might try to find reference librarian or historian for the area and get history. There were a lot of early Scots in Virginia. Sometimes records incorporated into written journals of the area. Have you checked with any churches?

Odem Library in Moultrie GA has Graham records and may have some records from another Graham. Are yo a member of the Clan Graham Society of the US? They have a genealogist who may be able to help you in a positive direction.

It is possible your Graham ancestors did not come directly from Scotland to what is now the United States. Reading history of the times may give more clues to records which actually give documents you would need for positive proof.

Regards.
Mairead

I know they were from Scotland because the story of the clan splitting into 2 with some of them adding an E to the name, has been known to my family. My nephew had the whole history and when he passed away in 2003 that document has been lost. Thank you Wanda

All we have on Andrew is that he was from NC and is buried c. 1790 with his wife in Cairo, Ga and the Gainey Cemetery.John is also buried there. William Brighton Graham and his wife are buried at Gainey and somehow he was responsible for having them buried at Gainy Cemetery. Laurenc Calvin Graham (teacher, dentist & senator) is buried in Reno, Ga. I am trying to find out where in Scotland they are from. I have a 2nd cousin 2x removed that has had his DNA done and we're trying to find a complete match. The court records in Burke County Ga was burned down 3 times so no records. ANy help would be appreciated.

I am desperately searching for info on my Graham line, hope you can help... my grgr grandfather was Robert E. Graham who brought his wife and 6 children from Ireland to New York in 1850 (through England). They had 2 more children (born in New York), one of which was my gr grandfather, Robert Patrick. I know our dates dont match, but i understand that 2 or 3 generations prior to coming to the US, the family moved to Ireland from Scotland. Perhaps part of your Graham clan remained in Ireland rather than moving to the US? Any info. would be much appreciated, as i seemed to have hit a brick wall. Thanks for your time. Tammy Graham

Just last night looking through Kilrea COI graveyards found on Google:
Samuel Graham d. 9 May 1817 age 38
Mary Graham d. 7 Sept 1813 age 53
(Hsb John Gray d. 17 Feb 1817 age 62)
I have other information and will have to find it. The name Andrew and the name Thomas have been seen recently in Graham research. Kilrea, Garvagh in Derry are two sources.

Torens.org provides helpful Presbyterian records of that area, although much less than years gone by.

Hi Tammy, I am very sorry but I am not able to help you for my Grahams are John's,James's Thomas's Richard's Andrew's and William's As far as I know.

I think a lot of researchers are finding it very hard to trace the Grahams in Northern Ireland. My Gt,Gt.Father was Andrew Graham from Londonderry who came out to Australia 1840 who died very young so their was not much information passed on. He had a brother John Baily Graham who went to Canada round about 1849.I can not find any other siblingsfor them.
I wish you the best of luck with your research.
Kind regards Pat Graham

Hi. I am desperately looking for a link to my ancestors who are also Grahams from Northern Ireland, here's what I have learned. My g.g.grandfather was named Robert Emmett and was born in Ireland, and also married there. He and his wife (unable to find her name), and several of their children came to New York in 1850, on a ship from England. I have heard that 2-3 generations prior, the family (at least this part of it) had left their homeland in Scotland to relocate in Ireland. Robert Emmett and his wife had 2 more children born in New York, one of which was Robert Patrick, my g.g. grandfather. I have hit a brick wall at that point. My father says that his dad never spoke of his family much, other than he can remember him joking about the great writer Robert Emmett Graham, who was somehow related to him. Can you help? I really appreciate your time either way. Thanks, Tammy Graham

Sounds like my Uncle Clarence. His wife was named Sandy as was their daughter who was the same age as my older sister. Also had a son my older brother's age but I can't for the life of me remember his name. Unfortunately, when we went to Arkansas, we mainly visited my mother's family, not my dad's and Clarence was his older brother. Uncle Clarence was a very good person and my few memories are of him being kind.
They lived in Ohio late 1820 and 1830's..Robert and Anna did notleave Ohio...My conflict is that I found 2 Margaret E
Graham's, both born Ohio in 1832..One of them went to Vigo county Indiana and married James V Turner in 1856.
I have no proof that Robert's daughter Margaret ever left Ohio.
The other Margaret lived in Vigo with her family..and it is most likely that this is the Margaret that is my family
but I have to be certain...
