I'm researching for my wife. She is/was a Shirks. She has living family in Jonesville, VA. We are interested because the Shirks in that area supposedly have some full-blooded native American Indian in their ranks. My wife certainly has the complection, though only 1/4 or 1/8th at best.

Names I'm looking for are a James Franklin Shirks Jr. and Sr. or Frank Shirks - as the jr. apparently changed his name to Frank. Anything in the area of Meigs county as well.

I know this post is old, but I could not help noticing that you had the name Grande and then Palermo. My name is Melinda and my maiden name is Palermo. My father was the son of Agatha Garruppo from Patchogue, NY, whose mother was Phoebe Perri, whose mother was Maria Grande...whew!!! Hope I wrote that in order! Anyway, it turns out that Maria Grande is my great-great grandmother.....but I don't know if she had any brothers or sisters. Just looking for information on cousins I might still have in Patchogue, NY.

Thanks, Melinda

I looked in my list and that name doesn't show up anywhere. How do you hae them related? Who was Brede's father?

my Nels was one of six children: Anna, Johan, Elias, Nilsine, Johannes. The last name was Edvardsen/Grande

How old was Brede when he immigrated? I only remember Elias coming with him, but then again, I was only looking for same last name. Maybe they were just from the same farm? Traveled together?

Angela, I just found your posting in reply to Anne Hildrum's and I believe that your ggf Nils Grande and my gf Brede Blengsli(n) immigrated together on the RMS Celtic in 1901. Also, according to postings by Lisa Kjonigsen on the Norway board they were supposed to be related, so I'd be most interested in corresponding with you. Pete

Hi John, Thanks for your email. Unfortunately I do not recognize any of those names. I did go to Villa in Oct 03 to seek out my relatives. Found them all. What an experience. Stayed a week. I went to the town hall & the Vice Mayor took me to 2 other Grande families before we found mine. By the time we got to the 3rd house right off the piazza, lots of my relatives were already standing outside waiting to greet my husband & I. Word of mouth travels fast...like drums. Everyone crowded into this very tiny kitchen, hands were going, kissing, hugging, tears, pictures, talking, food coming out, arguing, more people coming in to see me, touch me, amazing. I ate, ate, ate. Now, we plan to go back next year with my kids. Keep in touch on a regular basis. Found out have relatives in Toronto, whom I have also been in touch with. Maybe one of the Grande families I was first taken to was one of yours. Very small & quaint houses, very loving & kind people. Ciao!

Anatolia Grande Giancursio born bef 1877 from Villavallelonga, Italy

I am searching for info on Anatolia Grande who was married to Antonio Giancursio (1867-?). She had at least 4 children

Domenica "Palma" Giancursio 1896-
Pietro "Peter" Giancursio 1899-
Al "?Lauretlio" Giancursio 1907-
Francisco Giancursio 1908-1969

All are from Villavallelonga. Based on her husband's birthdate and her children's birthdate I'm guessing Anatolia Grande was born between 1870 & 1876

Also, I assume you've seen the Cesidio Grande posting at villavallelonga.com (if not here's the link)

http://66.46.231.130/genealogy/Reports/GrandeCesidio.html

Thanks Very Much
John Berner

Hi: I am trying to get information on my grandparents who were from Corleto, somewhat near Cosenza. (I am also reading Paul Paolcelli's book" Under the Southern Sun" all about the Southern Italians--excellent) My grandfather was born about the same time as your grandmother and his name was Rocco Grande--immigrated to New York in early part of century and had sisters in the New York Area. (He settled in Hartford, CT area and his second wife was Theresa Violetti, a widow sent over from the same small town.) Any ideas or connections? None of my older aunts and uncles (and there are several) have any inkling of the family past.
