I believe we have a match. If Robert is your great-great grandfather then we have the same great-great-great grand parents William and Mary. My line is through Robert's younger brother Thomas. His son Robert settled in Lowell, Mass. I would be interested in swapping family info. Do you have any info on members that stayed in the Chicopee area?

Please contact me directly.
Bob Granfield
BobG@USA.Com

I just saw your post. It is possible that your Robert Granfield (b.1823) is my great-great grandfather. His son, Thomas F. Granfield, b. 1851 was my grandmother, Grace Granfield's, father. All of the Granfields in my line lived primarily in Taunton, Mass. Grace married my grandfather, John P. Taulty and they lived in Bridgeport, CT. Grace was born in 1892 and died in 1919. I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you think this matches up with what you have. Good luck!

Hello,

I found confirmation of Grace Granfield Taulty's death. In the June 13, 1929 issue of the Bridgeport Telegram (newspaper) there is her obituary with the date of her death as June 11, 1929, as you advised me. Thank you! Not a whole lot of other information, except that she died of a short illness. It's so nice when a family mystery is solved.
Good luck in your pursuits,

Hello,
I just read your March 2010 reply. Thank you for all your information. I thought Grace's mother's maiden name was Kearns, and hitting a brick wall. So now I can look into Catherine Cairns. I have found more information on the Granfields through additional census records, and WWI/WWII draft registration regarding Grace's brothers.

I am currently browsing Bridgeport Telegram newspaper records, 1926-1930. Family lore is that Grace died suddenly during that time frame, but no other details. It is slow going, but very interesting.

If I can be of some help in your searching, please let me know.

Thank you again, pjkjak

Hi Kevin

I have put information concerning a Maria Grandfield from Dingle. She was my father's mother and married a Michael mMore in Dingle around 1904?. I was led to believe that Maria's brother (first name not known) emmigrtared to the US or Canada. You are the first to mention that Grandfields mainnly emmegrated to Canada. When my father's aunt Nell Grandfield (Maria's sister) died in Dingle about 1975/76 aged 83 my father was the sole relative left on the Grandfield side. However, my sister remembered that someone mentioned that Nell' and Maria's brother may have still been alive at the time of Nell's death. Enquiries I understand were made in Canada where he was believed to be but without success.

In relation to the above, can you comment

Kind regards

Don Moore
Tel 00441617486744
Mob 00447977121039

Kevin,
Frank Granfield was my great grandfather and he was born in French Canada. I am positive that either he or someone in the family angelicized the name from Grandchamp. When my mom was young, she had a little french nun in school who always told her that her name was "Grandchamp." Mom was too young to really care then and never asked her father, Joesph Grandfield, what the nun meant.
If you come across any Grandchamps in your search, please let me know. This is a brick wall for me.
Thanks,
Ann Brownlee acbportland@aol.com

Really? Well thank you for that. I did check out the three Thomas Granfields in 1920 whose ages fit within a window, but none seemed right. There was Thomas W. in Kansas City; Thomas H. in Minnesota (closest by age and his and parents' birth places) and one in Hampshire Co., MA with an aunt Kate Russell. I will have to go back and start over on Thomas. I appreciate your help and advice.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I agree that Jennie Canning probably married Patrick Granfield. Pittsfield Deaths 1886-1941 show Patrick H. Granfield d.29 Sep 1895, age 39 yrs. I just wasn't totally sure because Jennie said in 1900 that she had been widowed 8 yrs; however, that census was difficult to read so it could very well have been 5 yrs.

John C. Granfield did stay in Pittsfield. Jennie moved to Manhattan between 1916-1920. Apparently that is where her father died because he is listed in Pittsfield Death Records as having "died elsewhere."

Jennie's daus Agnes married Spencer E. Barringer and Jane "Jennie" married Herbert Loveman. I don't know anything about Thomas.

Barringer is a nephew of my husband's maternal great grandmother; I'm just spreading out and filling in out of curiosity. Again, thank you for your kindness.

Ruby
I have been doing extensive Granfield research and had the same info on that family. I don't know for sure but think the record you seek might be as follows.
Granfield, Patrick, wed in Pittsfield, 1887, Vol. 379, p. 76, Microfiche #249, Marriages 1886-1890. {FROM: Massachusetts vital records. Marriage index, 1841-1895 Publisher: State Archives?, 1895?.}
Please let me know what you find out. I have other info on that family and will gladly share however much you want. Jennie's son John had the middle name Canning and was in Pittsfield until at least 1951. Jennie may have moved to and died in New York.
- Kevin

Granfield-Canning marriage, Berkshire Co., Mass.

Searching for which Granfield married Jane L. "Jennie" Canning, probably in Pittsfield, Berkshire, Massachusetts, about 1887-88. It must have been Patrick Granfield who married Jennie Canning because I cannot locate him in 1900. Jennie was widowed about 1892-93 and never remarried; she had four children.

The Canning family was in Pittsfield many decades. The Granfield family who was there, and never more than a couple pages from the Cannings, was Andrew (b.ca 1829 Ireland), wife Johanna (Ire), and children Margaret, Bridget, (both b.Ireland) Patrick (b.MA), Thomas, (Jo)Hannah, Andrew (all b.IL), and Nellie. (b.MA)

This Granfield family was in Cook Co., IL, in 1860, Berkshire Co., MA, 1870-80, Hampden Co., MA, 1900.

Does anyone happen to have, or know of, a marriage record between Granfield and Canning in Massachusetts?
Frank Granfield was my g-g-grandmother's second husband. Josephine Verboncouer (aka Hart) married Louis Vevea about 1873/74 in either Anoka County or Hennepin County, MN. Louis died in a saw mill accident September 1,1879 leaving Josie (Josephine) to raise 3 young children. A 4th child, Louise Vevea was born about 5 months after his father's death. In January or February of 1882 Josie married Frank Granfield and they had at least 5 children over the next 11 years. Frank died about 1906 in Anoka, MN when he was struck by a passenger train and thrown to his death. In 1910 Josie married for a third time, this time to Zepherin Paquette. He died trying to pull Josie out of a gas filled kitchen in 1930 in Minneapolis, MN, she survived but died in 1937 in Oregon. Send me an email and I can send you the "Descendants of Josephine Verboncoeur" document I have compiled.

Please read all messages on bulletin board irrespective of date or sender. Somehow I mixed up names in attempting to respond to your 5-01-01 response to my message.

Thanks

Tom
Tom1olivia@aol.com

I tried to respond to your message of 5-1-01 but am not sure it got through so I am posting this as a new message. If you will respond with an email address or telephone number I will contact you directly. Please also see text of all messages on message board as I think you will find that there is likely a connection through Dingle Granfields.

Hoping to hear.

Tom

Dear Bill--Great to get your message. We have just begun our search and believe there may be a connection. We have traced our Granfield ancestors to Dingle also. However, the date of death of your grandfather seems too recent to be WJG's brother. Do you have a date of birth and date and port of arrival for your grandfather. It could be that we have the right family but a later immigrating family member. Do you have a Granfield relative that served in the civil war? I would love to get in contact and provide you with what I have been able to discover.

My wife and I are planning a photography tour of southern Ireland in July followed by a day or two in Dublin and then a drive south to Dingle.

Our email address is Tom1olivia@aol.com.

Regards and hoping to hear from you.

Tom
