Milton Hopkins Pollard was the son of Lucy Hopkins who married Benjamin F. Pollard. The son of Walter Pollard and Patty Brooks. Walter was the son of Capt. Walter Pollard and Dorothy Danforth of Ballirica, MA. In 1855 Lucy Hopkins died and Benjamin married Laura G ???. A few years ago I went to Wales Center NY and to Darien NY and took several headstone photos at the cementary. I can send any you are interested in.
Milton Hopkins and Sarah had thirteen children. I have all the info on them. Milton Hopkins, Benjamin Francis, and Seymor all married Grannis girls, Milton to Sarah Carpenter Grannis, Benjamin to Laura Grosvenor Grannis and Seymour to Mary Elizabeth Grannis. I have a lot of the old coin silver from the Grannis family side and an old maple table built in the mid 1800's that came out to California with George Washington Pollard, son of Milton Hopkins and Sarah Carpenter which is the line I descend from. My grandmother Helen Daimer Pollard was the daughter of George Washington Pollard and Catherine Woodhouse.
Look forward to hearing which line you descend from.
Leslie

Milton Hopkins Pollard and Sarah Grannis are also my 2nd-great-grandparents. Do you happen to know the parents of Milton Hopkins Pollard? I assume his mother was Lucy Hopkins and perhaps her father was Milton Hopkins. I would also be interested in any and all information you might have regarding this family.

Well, I could guess and say that Louis was one of the other sons of Carl Freiherr, but that's not a very good way to source data. :)
According to my family, Louis' daughter's husband lost the estate and it is now a tourist attraction.

http://www.todenwarth.de/history.html
http://www.todenwarth.de/aktuelles.html

Reichsfreiin Josephene Wolff von und zu Todenwarth married August Schroeder-- after he died of a heart attack, they were forced to sell their estate and live with her sister. Her daughters managed to get scholarships from the Red Cross and came to America to provide health care. One of them, Margarethe Schroeder, married a doctor from Old Salem, NC she worked with in Pennsylvania.

Does this email below answer your questions? I have been in touch with the brother or Hildegarde. He and his wife visited the me in 2005. Marcella

Dear Marcella Walker,

You wrote at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/surnames.granni...
that your grandmother Isabelle Rosalia Grannis married Walter Von Todenwarth in the early 1900's.

That is a suprise for me. My birth Name is Wolf von Todenwarth. The Father of Walter was a brother of my Grandfather. My Grandfather

ist Otto Aloys Freiherr Wolff von und zu Todenwarth, born 18.11.1849 as the 11th child of Carl Freiherr Wolff von und zu Todenwarth (born

21.7.1805). The 10. Child of Carl was August, born 4.8.1848. August emigrated to the U.S.A and died 14.1.1891

August ist the father of Walter and Carl, both born in the U.S.A

I am one of two Todenwarth's, living in Germany. It seems we are distantly related.

My name ist Hildegard Cerci, I am living in Detmold, Germany. I am married with a paediatrician from Turkey. I am born in 1953 an I have

2 sons. The last Wolf von Todenwarth in Germany is my brother Antonius Wolf von Todenwarth, born in 1952. His wife comes from

phillipines. They have no children.

The first known Todenwarth was Hans Wolff, died before 3.10.1446 near Schmalkalden/Thüringen/Germany.

I would be happy to have contact with you and to hear about the history of the family in the U.S.A

Yours sincerely,

Hildegard Cerci

Re: any information

Hi, I have the following:

Elizabeth Samshell

From A History of the Martin and Parkes Family

Paul and Mary Samshell

The following information was related by John A. Martin. Paul and Mary lived in Canada, probably Montreal, and were married there. Paul was employed there as a “glass worker”. They had at least four children, all born in Canada (Mary, twins Elizabeth and Joseph, Virginia). The entire family was French-Canadian. They immigrated to America and settled in New Castle, PA. Paul came to America to help start and work at a “new” glassworks in New Castle (he stated that this works was located at “Croton” in or near New Castle). Paul and Mary may be buried in Greenwood Cemetery, New Castle, PA.

The 1860 Census for Pollack Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania lists a family by the last name of “Shell” or “Shull” that is undoubtedly the Samshells. The location of Pollack Township has not been established; it was not listed by that name in the 1850 census and was renamed sometime after the 1860 census. The 1860 census suggests the township bordered New Castle Borough; the Lawrence County Jail was located in it and it appeared to be an area of heavy industry as many iron and glass workers were listed as living there. Living in a section of the township predominately occupied by glass workers is the Paul and Mary Shell family. Paul is listed as a 44 year old teamster born in Canada with personal property valued at $50.00. Mary is listed as 40 years old and born in Canada. They have five children, Mary J (age 17, born in Massachusetts), Virginia (age 15, born in Vermont) twins Elizabeth and Joseph (age 12, born in Pennsylvania) and Philo (age 8, born in Pennsylvania). Despite the disparity in last names, the exact correlation of the first names and the presence of twins named Elizabeth and Joseph proves beyond reasonable doubt that this is Elizabeth Samshell Martin’s family. The last name disparity could be attributable to a census taker’s error or a change made by the family in their name.

1850 United States Federal Census > Pennsylvania > Allegheny > Peebles
Semshell, Paul	42	M	CAN
Mary S.	28	F	CAN
May (Mary?) Mary J.
Joseph
Philimenia
Lydia A.

1870 Census
Shell, Jona & Maria J.	Pulaski Township	p. 216B

From New Castle News, October 26, 1940

Mrs. Elizabeth Samschell Martin
Widow of a Civil War veteran, Mrs. Elizabeth Sanschell Martin, aged 92, passed away at the home of her son, Albert, 613 East Main Street, this morning at 6:50 o’clock. Complications arising from a broken hip suffered three weeks ago caused her death.

Her husband, James J. Martin, preceded her in death 37 years ago.

Mrs. Martin had resided in New Castle for 86 years, coming here at the age of six in a canal boat from Pittsburgh. She was born in Braddock, PA, on February 28, 1848, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Samschell. Her father worked in the old Croton glass house.

Mrs. Martin heard Abraham Lincoln, president of the United States, deliver an address in Pittsburgh and shook hands with him. She was noted for her fine character and was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle, Christian and Missionary Alliance, 210 Pearson Street.

Surviving are four sons, Howard, Joseph, John and Albert, at whose home she died; one daughter, Mrs. Charles Grannis; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Mrs. Margaret Schook, preceded her in death also, 30 years ago.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Gospel Tabernacle, Christian and Missionary Alliance, with the pastor Rev. J. Henry Boon, in charge. Internment will be in Graceland Cemetery.

The body has been removed to the Cunningham funeral home, East Washington at Chestnut Street, where the family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 o’clock and Sunday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 o’clock.
I just saw your message. I was trying to find his book somewhere. I'm not sure how I would be related to Samuel, but I know I would be Leland Case's great great niece. I have just found out about this book, and my mom has a copy of it (we've been looking through everything to find it). I'm trying to find out any information about her side of the family, because evidentally there is a lot of history there. From what she tells me that book would help me. Any information you have would be helpful too.

Joel Grannis - Poultney, Rutland, Vermont

I am not of the GRANNIS lineage, but am trying to determine the maiden name of the wife of Joel Grannis that died in 1773 in the woods near Poultney, Rutland, Vermont. This Joel Grannis was the first burial in a cemetery later named as East Poultney Cemetery. It is stated he was frozen to death while lost in the forest and the first death in the town. I have been given her first name was Anne and she is given to have been born about 1759 and died 2 December 1833 at the age of 74 years. She is also reported to have married Joel 6 December 1781. I am trying to determine if she may have later married my ggg-grandfather there. Any help would be greatly appreciated in this search. Thank you for your assistance.

Yes, this Elizabeth married William Sipes of Armstrong County, PA. I am seeking to verify that Enos was indeed her father, her date of marriage to William Sipes and the maiden name of her mother.

I have obtained the pension file of Enos Grannis from NARA which contains some information to verify this. However, you may be interested to know that it also include a letter from an Archibald Adams, a son-in-law, who was at the time living in Ohio. I'd like to discuss this with you more...why don't you contact me at my e-mail address? Many thanks.

Big problem with variant spellings! Very casual about that in past times, plus low levels of literacy now devil us searchers.
Have found:de Cranage,Wm(b.~1304,Chester,Cheshire);de Cranach.Alice(b.~1400,Cheshire). "de" = of in French,and I
was told my father had traced to Norman French -- but in Wales-- thru efforts of British genealogist consulted 1960s.My labors keep bringing me back to England,e.g. shires that border Wales;no results in Wales as such!! Was told Cranage = grain d'orge (anglicized),which means golden grain or barley. Suspect Cranach WAS a town 600-700 years ago -- in Cheshire-- but unable at present to confirm even with old maps UK sources. Help!!
